MACKTruckswarrantstheEmissionControlSystemsoneachnewMACKTrucks
dieselengineinanewMACKTruckstocomplywithallUnitedStatesFederaland
Canadianemissionsregulationsapplicableatthetimeofmanufactureoftheengine,
andtobefreefromdefectsinmaterialandworkmanshipundernormaluseandservice
upto60months,or160934km(100,000miles),whicheveroccursrst,providedthat
allmaintenancerequirementsarefollowedasdescribedinthismanual.Allwarranty
periodsarecalculatedfromthedate-in-serviceofthenewvehicle.Therepairor

throughitsserviceorganization,isresponsibleforemissioncontrolsystemswarranty

CAUTION
Anyunauthorizedadjustmentstothe

1.RepairsbyMACKTrucksDealers,Sub-DealersandServiceDealersRepairs
coveredbytheEmissionControlSystemsW arrantywillbeperformedbyany
authorizedMACKTrucksrepairfacilitywithnochargeforpartsandlabor(including
diagnosis),usingMACKTruckspartsforanypartoftheemissioncontrolsystems
coveredbythiswarrantyandfounddefective.
2.InanEmergencywhereanauthorizedMACKTrucksfacilityisnotavailable,
repairsmaybeperformedatanyavailableserviceestablishment,orbytheowner,
usinganyreplacementpart,withinthelimitationsofparagraphs3and4inthissection.
Anemergencyconditionexistsunderthissectionif,after30days,repairshavenot
beencompletedorpartsarenotyetavailable.MACKTruckswillreimbursetheowner
forsuchrepairsthatarecoveredunderthiswarranty ,includingdiagnosis,nottoexceed
MACKTrucks’ssuggestedretailpriceforpartsreplacedandlaborchargesbasedon
MACKTrucks’srecommendedtimeallowanceandgeographicallyappropriatehourly
laborrate.ReplacedpartsandpaidinvoicesmustbepresentedataMACKTrucks
facilityasaconditionofreimbursementforemergencyrepairsperformedelsewhere.
3.RepairsbyNon-MACKTrucksFacilitiesOwnersmayelecttohavemaintenance,
replacement,orrepairofemissioncontrolsystemsperformedbyanyrepairfacility,
andmayelecttousepartsotherthanMACKTruckspartswithoutinvalidatingthe
warrantyonothercomponents,butthecostofsuchserviceorpartswillnotbecovered
byMACKTrucksunderitswarranty.
CAUTION
Intheeventthatdamageresultsfromunauthorizedadjustmentstoanyemission
controlsystemcomponents,asevidencedbysettingsotherthanasspecied,
orbrokenfastenerseals,thecostofrepairingsuchdamageWILLNOTBE

4.UseofNon-MACKTrucksPartsUseofreplacementpartswhicharenotthe
equivalentofMACKTruckspartsmayimpairtheeffectivenessofemissioncontrol
systems.IfotherthanMACKTruckspartsareused,theownershouldobtain
assurancesthatsuchpartsarewarrantedbytheirmanufacturertobetheequivalent
ofMACKTruckspartsinperformanceanddurability.MACKTrucksassumesno
liabilityunderthiswarrantywithrespecttopartsotherthanMACKTrucksparts;
however,theuseofnon-MACKTruckspartsdoesnotinvalidatethewarrantyonother
componentsunlessnon-MACKTruckspartscausedamagetowarrantedparts.
5.MaintenanceandMaintenanceRecordsThevehicleownerisresponsibleforthe
performanceofallrequiredmaintenancespeciedinthismanual.MACKTruckswill
notdenyawarrantyclaimsolelybecausethereisnorecordofmaintenance;however,
MACKTrucksmaydenyawarrantyclaimiffailuretoperformrequiredmaintenance
resultsinthefailureofawarrantedpart.Receiptsorotherrecordscoveringthe
performanceofscheduledmaintenanceshouldberetainedtoanswerquestionsthat

an"eventdatarecorder"or"EDR."Pleasenotethatwhiletheterm"eventdata
recorder"istypicallyusedthroughoutthemotorvehicleindustry,notevery
EDRisthesame;i.e.,theydonotallrecordthesamedataelements.The
EDRonyourMACKTrucksvehiclerecordsvehiclespeed,enginerpm,time
anddate,plusavarietyofpedalandswitchpositions,bothbeforeandafteran
"event."Suddenvehicledecelerationortheoccurrenceofcertainothervehicle
operationalcharacteristicswilldene(trigger)an"event."

Donotsitinaparkedvehicleforanyextendedamountoftimewiththeengine
runningifthereareleaksintheexhaustsystem.Exhaustfumescouldleakintothe
cabareaanddeathcanresult.Onaregularbasisinspecttheexhaustsystemfor
leaksandrepairanyleakage.

thehollowcore.Thisallowsentrappedairtoescape,therebyeasingthe
opening/closingofcabdoor(s).
Besuretokeepthekeylockscleananddrytopreventoccasionalwinter
freeze-up.Useofantifreezelubricantsisneitherrequirednorrecommended.
OutsideMirrorHeater
Inareasoffrequentsnowfallandice,itmaybebenecialtoinstallheated
mirrorswhichwilldefrostandde-icecabmirrors.Heatedmirrorseliminatethe
needtopulloffthehighwayandstandontheroadsidetoscrapeiceandsnow
fromthemirrorsduringwinterdrivingconditions.Heatedmirrorsareavailable

thereisammablematerial,etc.).
Dependingonthevehicle'ssetup,itmaybepossibletoperformaparked
regenerationifnecessary.

ParkedRegeneration
Parkedregenerationallowstheoperatortostartand/orstoptheregeneration
manuallywhenthevehicleisparkedandtheengineisidling.Theoperatoris
notiedthataregenerationisneededwhentheiconsontheDPFSmartswitch
illuminate.Theoperatorshouldperformtheregenerationassoonaspossible.
PleaserefertotheinstructionsbelowonhowtousetheDPFSmartswitchfor
parkedregenerations.
1.Movethevehicletoasafelocation,applytheparkbrakeandallowthe
enginetoidle.
WARNING
Whenaregenerationisinprocess,thetemperatureoftheexhaustwillbe
elevated.DONOTparkthevehiclewiththeexhaustoutletunderlowhanging
overheadammableobjectssuchastrees,awnings,etc.,thatcouldbedamaged
byelevatedexhausttemperatures.DONOTattempttoregenerateinsidea
garageorenclosedareaifthetailpipeisattachedtoanexhaustventilation
systemasthehosematerialmaynotberatedforthehightemperature.
2.PressandholdthetoppartoftheDPFSmartswitchmomentarilytoinitiate
theregeneration.
3.Duringregeneration,theiconsontheswitchwillshutoff.TheHEST
indicatorontheinstrumentclusterwilllightuptonotifyofhighexhaust
temperatures.
4.Forcatalyzedexhaustaftertreatmentsystems,theenginespeedmayramp
ashighas1,100rpm.Fornon-catalyzedexhaustaftertreatmentsystems,the
enginewillcontinuetoidleduringtheregeneration.
5.Regenerationwilltakebetween20and30minutestocomplete.
6.Afterregenerationhascompletedandtheexhausttemperaturehas
returnedtonormal,theHESTindicatorwillshutoff.
7.T ostopregeneration,presstheswitchdowntotheinhibitposition.When
thebottomoftheswitchisilluminated,regenerationisstopped.Theswitch
willremainlockedinthispositionandthelightwillstayilluminated.Thedriver
hastheoptionofstoppingaregenerationifthevehicleisinanareawhere
elevatedexhausttemperatureswillposeahazard(i.e.,tunnel,undertrees,in
anareawherethereisammablematerial,etc.).

CAUTION
Failuretoperformaregenerationinatimelymannerafternoticationmayresult
inenginederate,acloggeddieselparticulatelter,damagetothelterandengine
shutdown.
DANGER
Duringtheregenerationprocess(witheithersystem),thetemperatureof
theexhaustgaseswillbeelevated.DONOTparkorstopforanextended
periodunderlowhangingoverheadammableobjectssuchastrees,awnings,
structures,etc.,thatcouldbedamagedbyelevatedexhausttemperatures.
Further,ifthevehicleisbeingoperatedinanareawhereammablevaporsexist,
theregenerationprocessmustbeinterrupted.Failuretoheedthesecautionsmay
resultinreorexplosioncausingseriouspersonalinjuryordeath.
Whenregenerationisneeded,aniconatthetopoftheDPFSmartswitchwill
illuminatetonotifythevehicleoperator.TheDPFSmartswitchallowsthe
vehicleoperatortoeitherstoporstartregeneration.(Certainconditionsmust
bemet,however ,beforeregenerationcanbemanuallystarted.)
Note:Ifthevehicleisinalocationthatmaybehazardouswhenanactiveregeneration
begins(i.e.,incloseproximitytoammablematerialsorgases),theregeneration
shouldbestoppedbypushingtheDPFswitchtothe"StopRegeneration"position.
Ifanactiveregenerationisstoppedbythevehicleoperator,itshouldbeinitiatedata
latertimewhenthevehicleisinasafelocation.However,ifanactiveregenerationis
stoppedtoomanytimes,thevehiclemustbetakentoaMACKTrucksservicefacility.
Theservicefacilitywilluseaservicetooltomanuallyinitiatetheregeneration.
WARNING
Thetemperatureoftheexhaustsystemcomponentsduringtheregeneration
processcanexceed500°C(1000°F).Variousfactors(includingambient
temperatureanddurationoftheregenerationprocess)determinewhenthese
componentswillreturntonormaloperatingtemperatureafterregeneration
hascompleted.Beextremelycarefularoundthesehotcomponents.Contact
withthesecomponentscanresultinseriouspersonalinjury.
