vehiclesbeequippedwithengineshavingtamper-resistantsoftwarewhich
limitsthetimeatwhichtheenginecanidleatspeedsabovelowidle(550–700
rpm).Atspeedsabovelowidle,andwithoutaPTOengaged,idletimewill
belimitedtoveminutes,afterwhichtheenginewillrevertbacktolowidle.

ParkedRegeneration
Parkedregenerationallowstheoperatortostartand/orstoptheregeneration
manuallywhenthevehicleisparkedandtheengineisidling.Theoperatoris
notiedthataregenerationisneededwhentheiconsontheDPFSmartswitch
illuminate.Theoperatorshouldperformtheregenerationassoonaspossible.
PleaserefertotheinstructionsbelowonhowtousetheDPFSmartswitchfor
parkedregenerations.
1.Movethevehicletoasafelocation,applytheparkbrakeandallowthe
enginetoidle.
WARNING
Whenaregenerationisinprocess,thetemperatureoftheexhaustwillbe
elevated.DONOTparkthevehiclewiththeexhaustoutletunderlowhanging
overheadammableobjectssuchastrees,awnings,etc.,thatcouldbedamaged
byelevatedexhausttemperatures.DONOTattempttoregenerateinsidea
garageorenclosedareaifthetailpipeisattachedtoanexhaustventilation
systemasthehosematerialmaynotberatedforthehightemperature.
2.PressandholdthetoppartoftheDPFSmartswitchmomentarilytoinitiate
theregeneration.
3.Duringregeneration,theiconsontheswitchwillshutoff.TheHEST
indicatorontheinstrumentclusterwilllightuptonotifyofhighexhaust
temperatures.
4.Forcatalyzedexhaustaftertreatmentsystems,theenginespeedmayramp
ashighas1,100rpm.Fornon-catalyzedexhaustaftertreatmentsystems,the
enginewillcontinuetoidleduringtheregeneration.
5.Regenerationwilltakebetween20and30minutestocomplete.
6.Afterregenerationhascompletedandtheexhausttemperaturehas
returnedtonormal,theHESTindicatorwillshutoff.
7.T ostopregeneration,presstheswitchdowntotheinhibitposition.When
thebottomoftheswitchisilluminated,regenerationisstopped.Theswitch
willremainlockedinthispositionandthelightwillstayilluminated.Thedriver
hastheoptionofstoppingaregenerationifthevehicleisinanareawhere
elevatedexhausttemperatureswillposeahazard(i.e.,tunnel,undertrees,in
anareawherethereisammablematerial,etc.).

CAUTION
Failuretoperformaregenerationinatimelymannerafternoticationmayresult
inenginederate,acloggeddieselparticulatelter ,damagetothelterandengine
shutdown.
DANGER
Duringtheregenerationprocess(witheithersystem),thetemperatureof
theexhaustgaseswillbeelevated.DONOTparkorstopforanextended
periodunderlowhangingoverheadammableobjectssuchastrees,awnings,
structures,etc.,thatcouldbedamagedbyelevatedexhausttemperatures.
Further,ifthevehicleisbeingoperatedinanareawhereammablevaporsexist,
theregenerationprocessmustbeinterrupted.Failuretoheedthesecautionsmay
resultinreorexplosioncausingseriouspersonalinjuryordeath.
Whenregenerationisneeded,aniconatthetopoftheDPFSmartswitchwill
illuminatetonotifythevehicleoperator.TheDPFSmartswitchallowsthe
vehicleoperatortoeitherstoporstartregeneration.(Certainconditionsmust
bemet,however,beforeregenerationcanbemanuallystarted.)
Note:Ifthevehicleisinalocationthatmaybehazardouswhenanactiveregeneration
begins(i.e.,incloseproximitytoammablematerialsorgases),theregeneration
shouldbestoppedbypushingtheDPFswitchtothe"StopRegeneration"position.
Ifanactiveregenerationisstoppedbythevehicleoperator,itshouldbeinitiatedata
latertimewhenthevehicleisinasafelocation.However,ifanactiveregenerationis
stoppedtoomanytimes,thevehiclemustbetakentoaMACKservicefacility.The
servicefacilitywilluseaservicetooltomanuallyinitiatetheregeneration.
WARNING
Thetemperatureoftheexhaustsystemcomponentsduringtheregeneration
processcanexceed500°C(1000°F).Variousfactors(includingambient
temperatureanddurationoftheregenerationprocess)determinewhenthese
componentswillreturntonormaloperatingtemperatureafterregeneration
hascompleted.Beextremelycarefularoundthesehotcomponents.Contact
withthesecomponentscanresultinseriouspersonalinjury.

thepedaldownwhileadjusting.Whentheadjustmentiscomplete,release
thepedal.
