engineinformationlabelisafxedtoallMACKdieselengines.Thislabel,
whichislocatedonthecylinderheadcoveratthefrontoftheengine,gives
basicengineidenticationinformation(enginemodel,serialnumber,etc.),
advertisedhorsepoweratratedspeed,emissionsregulationstowhichthe
engineconformsandinletandexhaustvalvelashsettings.Examplesofthe

TheCaliforniaAirResourcesBoard(ARB)requiresthat2008modelyear
vehiclesbeequippedwithengineshavingtamper-resistantsoftwarewhich
limitsthetimeatwhichtheenginecanidleatspeedsabovelowidle(550–700
rpm).Atspeedsabovelowidle,andwithoutaPTOengaged,idletimewill
belimitedtoveminutes,afterwhichtheenginewillrevertbacktolowidle.
VehiclesequippedwithaCleanIdleengineareidentiedbyalabelwhichis
afxedtotheleftfrontcornerofthehoodonconventionalmodels(CXU,CHU

Parkedregenerationallowstheoperatortostartand/orstoptheregeneration
manuallywhenthevehicleisparkedandtheengineisidling.Theoperatoris
notiedthataregenerationisneededwhentheiconsontheDPFSmartswitch
illuminate.Theoperatorshouldperformtheregenerationassoonaspossible.
PleaserefertotheinstructionsbelowonhowtousetheDPFSmartswitchfor
parkedregenerations.
1.Movethevehicletoasafelocation,applytheparkbrakeandallowthe
enginetoidle.
WARNING
Whenaregenerationisinprocess,thetemperatureoftheexhaustwillbe
elevated.DONOTparkthevehiclewiththeexhaustoutletunderlowhanging
overheadammableobjectssuchastrees,awnings,etc.,thatcouldbedamaged
byelevatedexhausttemperatures.DONOTattempttoregenerateinsidea
garageorenclosedareaifthetailpipeisattachedtoanexhaustventilation
systemasthehosematerialmaynotberatedforthehightemperature.
2.PressandholdthetoppartoftheDPFSmartswitchmomentarilytoinitiate
theregeneration.
3.Duringregeneration,theiconsontheswitchwillshutoff.TheHEST
indicatorontheinstrumentclusterwilllightuptonotifyofhighexhaust
temperatures.
4.Forcatalyzedexhaustaftertreatmentsystems,theenginespeedmayramp
ashighas1,100rpm.Fornon-catalyzedexhaustaftertreatmentsystems,the
enginewillcontinuetoidleduringtheregeneration.
5.Regenerationwilltakebetween20and30minutestocomplete.
6.Afterregenerationhascompletedandtheexhausttemperaturehas
returnedtonormal,theHESTindicatorwillshutoff.
7.T ostopregeneration,presstheswitchdowntotheinhibitposition.When
thebottomoftheswitchisilluminated,regenerationisstopped.Theswitch
willremainlockedinthispositionandthelightwillstayilluminated.Thedriver
hastheoptionofstoppingaregenerationifthevehicleisinanareawhere

illuminatetonotifythevehicleoperator.TheDPFSmartswitchallowsthe
vehicleoperatortoeitherstoporstartregeneration.(Certainconditionsmust
bemet,however,beforeregenerationcanbemanuallystarted.)
Note:Ifthevehicleisinalocationthatmaybehazardouswhenanactiveregeneration
begins(i.e.,incloseproximitytoammablematerialsorgases),theregeneration
shouldbestoppedbypushingtheDPFswitchtothe"StopRegeneration"position.
Ifanactiveregenerationisstoppedbythevehicleoperator,itshouldbeinitiatedata
latertimewhenthevehicleisinasafelocation.However,ifanactiveregenerationis
stoppedtoomanytimes,thevehiclemustbetakentoaMACKservicefacility.The
servicefacilitywilluseaservicetooltomanuallyinitiatetheregeneration.
WARNING
Thetemperatureoftheexhaustsystemcomponentsduringtheregeneration
processcanexceed500°C(1000°F).Variousfactors(includingambient
temperatureanddurationoftheregenerationprocess)determinewhenthese
componentswillreturntonormaloperatingtemperatureafterregeneration
hascompleted.Beextremelycarefularoundthesehotcomponents.Contact

Withthelightcontrolknobintheleftposition,alllightsareoff.Withtheknobin
themiddleposition,theparkinglightsandinteriorpanellightswillilluminate.
Withtheknobinthefarrightposition,theheadlightswillturnon.
Toturnonthefoglights(ifequipped),puttheknobinthefarrightposition
andpulloutthefoglightbutton(seeFigureabove).Thefoglightsymbolwill
illuminateindicatingthelightsareon.
Toadjusttheintensityofthepanellight,movethepaneldimmerswitchback
andforth.
Toturnonthehook-uplampsorperimeterlighting(ifequipped),pushthe
bottomswitchtotheright.

Thisswitchstartstheengine(turntheswitchclockwise)andactivatesthe
accessoryrelay(turntheswitchcounterclockwise).Whentheswitchisturned
ON(inaclockwisedirection),awarningbuzzersoundsifairsystempressure
isbelow448±34kPa(65±5psi)orifthereislowoilpressure.Thebuzzer
shutsoffassoonassufcientair/oilpressureisrestored.
SteeringWheelAdjustment
WARNING
AdjustthesteeringwheelpositionBEFOREattemptingtomovethevehicle
toavoidlosingcontrolofthevehicle.
Adjusting(TiltandTelescope)
Pushdownonthefootpedallocatedattheleftkickpaneltoadjustthewheel
toanypositionwithinapre-denedrange.Notethatyoumustcontinuetohold
thepedaldownwhileadjusting.Whentheadjustmentiscomplete,release
thepedal.
