Substation Enclosure System

Congratulations! You have just purchased the latest in single-reflex bandpass enclosures to carry the famous KICKER name. Your KICKER speakers were designed and engineered by the same team which created many other international award winning KICKER components like the Solo-Baric, Comp VR, and Resolution drivers. They contain a number of cutting-edge features to give you outstanding performance and dependability. Thanks for buying KICKER. Enjoy!

General Installation Information

The position of your KICKER Substation will affect the quality and amount of the bass it reproduces. Experimentation will allow you to choose what sounds best in your vehicle.

The ideal situation is to mount the Substation with the ported end about four inches from the rear corner of your trunk or hatchback area. This will add the “boundary loading effect”, which boosts bass output at the lower frequencies. See diagram 1.

After determining the best location for your Substation by trial fitting and listening, find the best placement for the mounting brackets. Each bracket must be positioned so that the rounded end protrudes from the cabinet by about 3/4 inch. These brackets and screws will be used to attach the cabinet firmly to the vehicle. See diagram 2.

If the enclosed brackets are not applicable to your installation, some other means must be utilized to secure the cabinet to the vehicle.

For optimum sound quality, the KSR100 should be used with some form of low pass crossover. The best crossover is an electronic crossover used before a dedicated subwoofer amplifier. If it is necessary to use passive crossovers, a 6mH coil wired in series with the Substation will help reduce unwanted out of band frequencies. When wiring the substation to your amplifier, connect the positive output to the red input terminal and connect the negative output to the black terminal. The KSR100 Substation provides a 4 Ohm load to the amplifier.
