impossible).
Thiswarrantyappliesforonly90daysfromthedateofpurchaseifthischipper-shredderiseverusedforcommercialor
rentalpurposes.
This warranty covers ONLY defects in material and workmanship. Sears will NOT pay for:
• Expendable items that become worn during normal use, including but not limited to
auger blades or paddles, skid shoes, shave plate, shear pins, spark plug, air cleaner, belts, and oil filter.
Standard maintenance servicing, oil changes, or tune-ups.
Tire replacement or repair caused by punctures from outside objects, such as nails, thorns, stumps, or glass.
Tire or wheel replacement or repair resulting from normal wear, accident, or improper operation or maintenance.
Repairs necessary because of operator abuse, including but not limited to damage caused by over-speeding the
engine, or from impacting objects that bend the auger, frame or crankshaft.
Repairs necessary because of operator negligence, including but not limited to, electrical and mechanical damage
caused by improper storage, failure to use the proper grade and amount of engine oil, or failure to maintain the
equipment according to the instructions contained in the operator's manual.
Engine (fuel system) cleaning or repairs caused by fuel determined to be contaminated or oxidized (stale). In
general, fuel should be used within 30 days of its purchase date.
Normal deterioration and wear of the exterior finishes, or product label replacement.
This warranty applies only while this product is within the United States.
This warranty gives you specific legal rights, and you may also have other rights which vary from state to state.

PREPARATION
Thoroughlyinspecttheareawheretheequipmentistobeused.
Removeall doormats,newspapers,sleds,boards,wiresandother
foreignobjects,whichcouldbe trippedoverorthrownby the auger/
impeller.
Alwayswearsafetyglassesoreyeshieldsduringoperationand
whileperformingan adjustmentor repairto protectyoureyes.
Thrownobjectswhichricochetcancauseseriousinjurytothe
eyes.
Donot operatewithoutwearingadequatewinteroutergarments.
Donot wearjewelry,longscarvesorotherlooseclothing,which
couldbecomeentangledinmovingparts.Wearfootwearwhich
willimprovefootingonslipperysurfaces.
Usea groundedthree-wireextensioncordand receptacleforall
machineswithelectricstartengines.
Disengageall controlleversbeforestartingtheengine.
Neverattempttomakeanyadjustmentswhileengineis running,
exceptwherespecificallyrecommendedinthe operator'smanual.
Letengineandmachineadjusttooutdoortemperaturebefore
startingtoclearsnow.

SafeHandlingof Gasoline
Toavoidpersonalinjuryor propertydamageuseextremecarein
handlinggasoline.Gasolineisextremelyflammableandthe vaporsare
explosive.Seriouspersonalinjurycanoccurwhengasolineis spilled
onyourselforyourclotheswhichcan ignite.Washyourskinand
changeclothesimmediately.
• Useonlyanapprovedgasolinecontainer.
• Extinguishall cigarettes,cigars,pipesandothersources
ofignition.
• Neverfuelmachineindoors.
• Neverremovegascapor addfuel whiletheengineishot
or running.
• Allowenginetocoolat leasttwo minutesbeforerefueling.
• Neveroverfillfueltank. Filltankto no morethan1/2inch
belowbottomoffillerneckto providespaceforfuel
expansion.
• Replacegasolinecapandtightensecurely.
• Ifgasolineisspilled,wipeit offthe engineandequipment.
Movemachinetoanotherarea.Wait5 minutesbefore
startingtheengine.
• Neverstorethemachineor fuel containerinsidewhere
thereis anopenflame,sparkor pilotlight (e.g.furnace,
waterheater,spaceheater,clothesdryeretc.).
• Allowmachinetocoolatleast5 minutesbeforestoring.
• Neverfillcontainersinsidea vehicleoronatruckor trailer
bedwitha plasticliner.Alwaysplacecontainersonthe
groundawayfromyourvehiclebeforefilling.
• If possible,removegas-poweredequipmentfromthetruck
ortrailerand refueliton the ground.If thisisnotpossible,
thenrefuelsuchequipmentona trailerwitha portable
container,ratherthanfromagasolinedispensernozzle.
• Keepthenozzleincontactwiththe rimof the fueltankor
containeropeningatalltimesuntil fuelingis complete.Do
notuse a nozzlelock-opendevice.
OPERATION
• Donotputhandsorfeetnear rotatingparts,in the auger/impeller
housingorchuteassembly.Contactwiththe rotatingpartscan
amputatehandsandfeet.
• Theauger/impellercontrolleverisa safetydevice.Neverbypass
itsoperation.Doingsomakesthe machineunsafeandmaycause
personalinjury.
• Thecontrolleversmustoperateeasilyin bothdirectionsand
automaticallyreturntothe disengagedpositionwhenreleased.
• Neveroperatewitha missingordamagedchuteassembly.Keep
all safetydevicesin placeandworking.
• Neverrunanengineindoorsorina poorlyventilatedarea.Engine
exhaustcontainscarbonmonoxide,anodorlessanddeadlygas.
• Donotoperatemachinewhileundertheinfluenceofalcoholor
drugs.
• Mufflerandenginebecomehotandcancausea burn.Donot
touch.Keepchildrenaway.
• Exerciseextremecautionwhenoperatingonorcrossinggravel
surfaces.Stayalertforhiddenhazardsortraffic.
• Exercisecautionwhenchangingdirectionandwhileoperatingon
slopes.
• Planyoursnow-throwingpatternto avoiddischargetowards
windows,walls,carsetc.Thus,avoidingpossibleproperty
damageorpersonalinjurycausedbya ricochet.
• Neverdirectdischargeatchildren,bystandersandpetsor allow
anyoneinfrontofthemachine.
• Donotoverloadmachinecapacitybyattemptingtoclearsnowat
toofastof a rate.
• Neveroperatethismachinewithoutgoodvisibilityorlight.Always
be sureofyourfootingand keepa firmholdon thehandles.Walk,
neverrun.
• Disengagepowertotheauger/impellerwhentransportingor not
in use.
• Neveroperatemachineathightransportspeedson slippery
surfaces.Lookdownand behindand usecarewhenbackingup.
• Ifthe machineshouldstarttovibrateabnormally,stoptheengine,
disconnectthe sparkplugwireandgroundit againstthe engine.
Inspectthoroughlyfor damage.Repairanydamagebefore
startingandoperating.
• Disengageallcontrolleversandstopenginebeforeyouleave
theoperatingposition(behindthehandles).Waituntiltheauger/
impellercomestoa completestopbeforeuncloggingthechute
assembly,makinganyadjustments,orinspections.
• Neverputyourhandinthedischargeor collectoropenings.Do
notunclogchuteassemblywhileengineisrunning.Shutoff
engineand remainbehindhandlesuntilall movingpartshave
stoppedbeforeunclogging.
• Useonlyattachmentsandaccessoriesapprovedbythe manufac-
turer(e.g.wheelweights,tirechains,cabsetc.).
• Whenstartingengine,pullcordslowlyuntilresistanceisfelt,then
pull rapidly.Rapidretractionofstartercord(kickback)willpull
handandarmtowardenginefasterthanyoucanletgo.Broken
bones,fractures,bruisesorsprainscould result.
• Ifsituationsoccurwhichare notcoveredinthis manual,usecare
andgoodjudgment.ContactCustomerSupportforassistance
andthenameofyournearestservicingdealer.
CLEARING A CLOGGED DISCHARGE CHUTE
Handcontactwiththe rotatingimpellerinsidethe dischargechute
is themostcommoncauseofinjuryassociatedwithsnowthrowers.
Neveruseyourhandto cleanout thedischargechute.
Toclear thechute:
1. SHUTTHEENGINEOFF!
2. Wait 10secondstobe surethe impellerbladeshavestopped
rotating.
3. Alwaysusea clean-outtool,notyourhands.

• Nevertamperwithsafetydevices.Checktheirproperoperation
regularly.Refertothe maintenanceandadjustmentsectionsof
thismanual.
• Beforecleaning,repairing,or inspectingmachinedisengageall
controlleversandstopthe engine.Waituntiltheauger/impeller
cometoa completestop.Disconnectthe sparkplugwireand
groundagainsttheenginetopreventunintendedstarting.
Checkboltsand screwsforpropertightnessatfrequentintervals
tokeepthe machineinsafeworkingcondition.Also,visually
inspectmachineforanydamage.
Donotchangetheenginegovernorsettingorover-speedthe
engine.Thegovernorcontrolsthe maximumsafeoperatingspeed
oftheengine.
Snowthrowershaveplatesandskidshoesaresubjecttowear
anddamage.Foryoursafetyprotection,frequentlycheckall
componentsand replacewithoriginalequipmentmanufacturer's
(OEM)partsonly.Useofpartswhichdo notmeettheoriginal
equipmentspecificationsmayleadto improperperformanceand
compromisesafety!
Checkcontrolleversperiodicallytoverifytheyengageanddisen-
gageproperlyandadjust,if necessary.Refertotheadjustment
sectioninthisoperator'smanualforinstructions.
Maintainorreplacesafetyandinstructionlabels,asnecessary.
• Observeproperdisposallawsand regulationsforgas,oil,etc.to
protecttheenvironment.
Priorto storing,runmachinea few minutestoclearsnowfrom
machineandpreventfreezeupof auger/impeller.
Neverstorethemachineorfuelcontainerinsidewherethereisan
openflame,sparkorpilot lightsuchas a waterheater,furnace,
clothesdryeretc.
Alwaysrefertotheoperator'smanualforproperinstructionson
off-seasonstorage.
Checkfuelline,tank,cap,andfittingsfrequentlyforcracksor
leaks.Replaceif necessary.
Donotcrankenginewithsparkplugremoved.
Accordingtothe ConsumerProductsSafetyCommission(CPSC)
andtheU.S.EnvironmentalProtectionAgency(EPA),thisproduct
hasan AverageUsefulLifeof seven(7)years,or60 hoursof
operation.At the endoftheAverageUsefulLifehavethemachine
inspectedannuallybyan authorizedservicedealerto ensurethat
allmechanicalandsafetysystemsareworkingproperlyandnot
wornexcessively.Failuretodo so can resultinaccidents,injuries
ordeath.

Toavoidseriousinjuryor death,do notmodifyengineinanyway.
Tamperingwiththegovernorsettingcanleadtoa runawayengineand
causeittooperateat unsafespeeds.Nevertamperwithfactorysetting
ofenginegovernor.

EngineswhicharecertifiedtocomplywithCaliforniaandfederal
EPAemissionregulationsforSORE(SmallOff RoadEquipment)are
certifiedto operateon regularunleadedgasoline,and mayinclude
thefollowingemissioncontrolsystems:EngineModification(EM),
OxidizingCatalyst(OC),SecondaryAirInjection(SAI)and ThreeWay
Catalyst(TWO)if soequipped.
SPARK ARRESTOR
Thismachineisequippedwithaninternalcombustionengineand
shouldnotbe usedonor nearany unimprovedforest-covered,
brush-coveredorgrass-coveredlandunlesstheengine'sexhaust
systemisequippedwitha sparkarrestermeetingapplicablelocalor
statelaws(ifany)
Ifa sparkattesterisused,it shouldbemaintainedin effectiveworking
orderbytheoperator.Inthe StateofCaliforniatheaboveis required
bylaw (Section4442oftheCaliforniaPublicResourcesCode).Other

REMOVING FROM CARTON
1. Cutthe cornersof thecartonandlaythesidesflaton theground.
Removeanddiscardallpackinginserts.
2. Movethesnowthroweroutofthecarton.
3. Makecertainthecartonhas beencompletelyemptiedbefore
discardingit.
ASSEMBLY
Positioning the Upper Handle
1. Pivottheupperhandleintothe operatingpositionmakingsurenot
topinchthe cablein theprocess,as illustratedin Figure1,untilit
clicksintoplace.
2. Tightenthewingknobstosecurethehandleinplace.

Fuel Recommendations
Useautomotivegasoline(unleadedor low leadedto minimizecombus-
tionchamberdeposits)witha minimumof87octane.Gasolinewith
upto 10%ethanolor 15%MTBE(MethylTertiaryButylEther)canbe
used.Neveruseanoil/gasolinemixtureor dirtygasoline.Avoidgetting
dirt,dust,or waterin thefueltank.DONOTuse E85gasoline.
• Refuelina well-ventilatedareawiththe enginestopped.Donot
smokeorallowflamesor sparksinthe areawheretheengineis
refueledorwheregasolineisstored.
Donotoverfillthe fuel tank.Afterrefueling,makesurethetank
capisclosedproperlyandsecurely.
Becarefulnottospillfuelwhenrefueling.Spilledfuel or fuelvapor
mayignite.Ifanyfuelisspilled,makesurethe areaisdry before
startingtheengine.
Avoidrepeatedor prolongedcontactwithskinor breathingof
vapor.
Adding Fuel

Whenengaged,the augerrotationdrawssnowintotheaugerhousing
andthrowsitoutthedischargechute.Rubberpaddlesontheauger
alsoaid inpropellingthesnowthrowerastheycomeincontactwith
thepavement.
AUGER CONTROL
Locatedon theupperhandle,theaugercontrolhandleisusedto
engageanddisengagedrivetotheauger.Squeezethecontrolhandle
againsttheupperhandletoengagetheauger;releaseittodisengage.
CHUTE ASSEMBLY
Rotatethedischargechuteto the leftor rightusingthechutehandle.
Thepitchofthedischargechutecontrolstheangleat whichthesnow
isthrown.Loosenthewing knobonthe side of the dischargechute
beforepivotingthedischargechuteupwardordownward.Retighten
theknoboncethedesiredpositionhasbeenachieved.
SHAVE PLATE
Theshaveplate maintainscontactwiththepavementasthesnow
throwerispropelled,allowingsnowclosetothe pavement'ssurfaceto
bedischarged.
ELECTRIC STARTER BUTTON
Pressingtheelectricstarterbuttonengagestheengine'selectric
starterwhenpluggedintoa 120Vpowersource.
1. Determinethatyourhome'swiringisa three-wiregrounded
system.Aska licensedelectricianif youareunsure.If youhave
a groundedthree-prongreceptacle,proceedasfollows.Ifyoudo
nothavetheproperhousewiring,DONOTusethe electricstarter
underanyconditions.
2. Insertthe keyfullyintotheslot,Figure8. Makesureit snapsinto
place.DONOTturnthe key;doingso mightcauseittobreak.
Theenginecannotstartunlessthekeyisinsertedintotheignition
switch.
NOTE:Theelectricstarteris mountedtothe plasticshroudandis
shownin Figure7 attachedtotheengineforeasierreference.
BEFORE STARTING THE ENGINE

plugwiretothesparkplugbeforestarting.

NOTE:Allowtheenginetowarmupfor a fewminutesafterstarting.

controlagainstthehandle.Releasetostopthe auger.

Liftupslightlyonthehandletoallowthe rubberpaddlesontheauger
tocontactthe pavementand propelthesnowthrowerforward.Pushing
downwardonthehandlewill raisetheaugersoffthegroundandstop
theforwardmotion.

BeforeServicing,repairingor inspectingthesnowthrower,disengage
theaugercontrol.Stoptheengineand removethekeytoprevent
unintendedstarting.
Shave Plate
Tochecktheadjustmentof theshaveplate,placethe machineona
levelsurface.Thewheels,shaveplateandaugerpaddlesshouldall
contactthelevelsurface.Notethatifthe shaveplateis adjustedtoo
high,snowmayblowundertheaugerhousing.Iftheshaveplatewears
outexcessively,orthesnowthrowerdoesnotself-propel,theshave
platemaybetoolowand needstobe adjusted.
NOTE:Onnewsnowthrowersor machineswitha newshaveplate
installed,theaugerpaddlesmaybeslightlyoff theground.
4. Tipthesnowthrowerbackto theoperatingpositionandpullthe
starterhandlea fewtimestoseeifitisdifficultto pull.
5. Ifthe starterisdifficultto pull,removethesparkplugand pullthe
handleseveraltimesto ensurethatanyoil trappedinthe headis
removed.
Oilmaycomeout of the sparkplugholewhenitis removedandthe
starterhandleispulled.
6. Inspectthesparkplug.If itiswet,cleanoffanyoil before
re-installing.
Toadjustthe shaveplateproceedasfollows:
1. Runthe snowthroweruntilthe fuel tankisempty.
2. Pullthe startercorduntilresistanceisfelt. Thentipthesnow
throwerbackuntilitrestson thehandles.
