Before you Upgrade

Please Read Before Upgrading the Phones to Release 2.3

Release 2.3 provides several new features for the Aastra IP Phones. However, before upgrading the phones in your network to Release 2.3, please read the following IMPORTANT information:
In Release 2.3, LLDP is enabled by default. If LLDP is enabled on your network, the phones may come up with different network settings. For more information about LLDP, see your Model-Specific User Guide or the Aastra SIP IP Phone Administrator Guide.
Release 2.3 includes support for DHCP Options 159 and 160. If the DHCP server supplies Options 159 and 160, the phones will attempt to contact the configuration server given in these options. For more information about the DHCP Options, see your Aastra SIP IP Phone Administrator Guide.
Release 2.3 provides HTTPS validation. If you are using HTTPS and the certificates are not valid or are not signed by Verisign, Thawte, or GeoTrust, the phones fail to download configuration files. For more information about HTTPS validation, see your Aastra SIP IP Phone Administrator Guide.
Before you Upgrade
Release 2.3 includes a Watchdog task feature. If the phone detects a failure (for example, a crash), the phone automatically reboots. For more information about the Watchdog task, see your Aastra SIP IP Phone Administrator Guide..
Note: If you factory default a phone with Release 2.3 software, when the
phone reboots, it attempts to connect to rcs.aastra.com. There is no personal information transmitted from the phone and the phone continues to boot up as normal.

New Features in Release 2.3.1

New Features in Release 2.3.1

Description

This section provides the new features in SIP IP Phone Release 2.3.1. These new features apply to all of the 5i Series phones and the 9143i, 9480i, and 9480i CT phones, unless specifically stated otherwise. Each feature also specifies whether it affects the Administrator, the User, or both.
Feature Description

User Interface Features

WebApps Feature
An Administrator can now perform the following:
(For Administrator)
Local Conferencing Added on the 51i IP Phone
(For Administrator & User)
The following paragraphs describe these features in more detail.
User Interface Features
WebApps Feature
The WebApps option displays by default in the Services Menu of the 51i, 53i and 9143i. On all other phones models, the WebApps key displays by default on Key 1 of the softkeys. This WebApps key is hard coded to use the URI http://xml.myaastra.com/?localip=$LOCALIP$ when the key is pressed.
Remove the WebApps option from the 51i, 53i, and 9143i Service Menus, and disable the WebApps key for all other phone models.
Specify a customized URI for the WebApps key instead of using the default URI of http://xml.myaastra.com/?localip=$LOCALIP$.
The 51i now supports local 3-way conferencing.
Now an Administrator can perform the following:
Remove the WebApps option from the 51i, 53i, and 9143i Service Menus, and disable the WebApps key for all other phone models.
Specify a customized URI for the WebApps key instead of using the default URI of http://xml.myaastra.com/?localip=$LOCALIP$.

New Features in Release 2.3.1
An Administrator can perform the above tasks using the following configuration parameter in the configuration files:
•webapps uri
The following table describes the action of the WebApps feature when enabling and disabling the “webapps uri” parameter.
If Then
you specify a custom URI.... the phone stores the URI and uses it when you press the
WebApps key or when you select the WebApps option from the Services Menu.
a custom URI fails...... the phone uses the default URI of http:// xml.myaastra.com/
?localip=$LOCALIP$ instead
you do not specity a URI (value is blank)... the phone does not display the WebApps option in the
Services Menu. The WebApps softkey still displays for phone models 55i, 57i, 57i CT, 9480i, and 9480i CT; however the key does nothing when pressed since no URI value exists for the key. You can configure another softkey in place of the WebApps softkey, or configure the softkey as “empty” if required.
Note: For the 53i and 9143i, the Services Menu is removed and does not display, since the only option under this menu is WebApps.
Configuring the WebApps URI Using the Configuration Files
Use the following parameter to enable/disable the WebApps feature on the IP Phones.
Parameter– webapps uri
Description Set the URI called when the WebApps key is called pressed. If set to a blank

Local Conferencing Added on the 51i IP Phone
Previous to Release 2.3.1, the 51i IP Phone supported server-side conferencing only. The 51i now supports local 3-way conferencing as described below.
Note: If an Administrator enables Secure Real-time Transfer Protocol
(SRTP) (which is RTP encryption) on the 51i, it disables the ability of the phone to do local conferencing. The phone switches back to support server-side conferencing only.
Conference State Screens
When you use the Conference key (DOWN Arrow) to initiate a conference call, the following screen displays.
1-1 1-2
John Jim

Local Conferencing
The 51i phone supports up to 3 parties (including yourself) in a conference call. This is called Local Conferencing and is the default method of conferencing on the 51i.

available) of the parties in the conference call. When a name is displayed, pressing 4 drops the displayed party from the call.

SIP Features

Local Mode Status Indication Feature
The IP Phones now provide a Local Mode Status Indication feature.
This enables SIP servers to send an XML object to the phone in the body of a 200 OK response for a REGISTER. The object specifies a single message that the phone displays on the status line on the LCD for a specific line. If the object is missing, the phone removes the status message that was previously sent.
