Installation Location
When choosing the location for the control, consider the following:
Interior Wall.
• Keep dry. Avoid potential leakage onto the control.
• Relative Humidity less than 90%. Non-condensing
• environment.
No exposure to extreme temperatures beyond 32 to
• 122°F (0 to 50°C).
Away from equipment, appliances, or other sources of
• electrical interference.
Mounting
Easy access for wiring, viewing.
• Approximately 5 feet (1.5 m) off the finished floor.
• The maximum length of wire is 500 feet (150 m).
• Strip wire to 3/8" (10 mm) for all terminal connections.
• Use standard 8 conductor, 18 AWG wire.
• Ethernet cable maximum length is 328 feet (100 m).
• WiFi maximum distance is 100 feet (30 m) line of sight
• with no walls. Walls reduce WiFi range.
Press down at the fingertip grips on top of the front cover and pull out and down.
Remove the safety dividers from the wiring chamber by pulling them straight out of their grooves.
The control can be mounted on a standard DIN rail. First remove the control from its base and then, using the hooks and spring clip on the back of the control, mount it onto the DIN rail. This will be a popular option for those who prefer to mount the control inside a larger electrical panel.
Lift the front cover up and away from the control.
Control release clip
Press the control release clip on the base inside the wiring chamber and slide the control upwards.
The wiring can enter the bottom or the back of the enclosure. Knockouts provided in the base allow the wiring to be run in conduit up to the enclosure. The base also has holes that line up with the mounting holes of most common electrical boxes.
Loosen the screws at the front of the wiring cover.
The control lifts up and away from the base.
The wiring cover pulls straight out from the wiring chamber.
13 Mounting holes

clip
There are 10 conduit knock-outs at the back
and bottom of the wiring chamber.
The base is ready for mounting.

Alert On Break
Alert On Make
Before connecting the tekmarNet® Internet Gateway 485 to a tekmarNet® system, it is recommended that the system be fully completed, with no tekmarNet® thermostats or setpoint controls being added or removed at a later date. Also, each tekmarNet® thermostat and setpoint control device is automatically assigned a tekmarNet® address when connected to the system. It is recommended that each device be given a manual
Switch Settings
Inputs
Alert
The 485 has 3 alert inputs. Each alert input has a corresponding alert input switch setting.
Alert on Make
When set to Alert on Make, the 485 will trigger an email notification when the alert demand input has a contact closure or a voltage from 0 to 32 V (ac). The alert is cleared when the alert input has an open contact or the voltage is removed.
Alert on Break
When set to Alert on Break, the 485 will trigger an email notification when the alert input has an open contact. The alert is cleared when the alert input has a contact closure or a voltage from 0 to 32 V (ac) is applied.
address. This address should be written down together with the room location for future reference.
The gateway records the address of each tekmarNet® thermostat and setpoint control. For each address, the installer can name the room location and building area for each thermostat and setpoint control.
Unlock / Lock
The Unlock / Lock switch allows the use of a factory default user ID and password for the 485 login web page.
When set to Unlock (switch setting in up position), the user ID is “installer” and the password is “tekmar”.
After logging in to the tekmarNet® gateway login web page, create personal accounts for yourself and your customer through the configuration page. Once the personal accounts are completed, the Unlock / Lock switch can be set to Lock. The default user ID and password are then no longer accepted.
Should the personal account user ID or passwords be forgotten, the Unlock / Lock switch can be set to Unlock and the default user ID and password can be used to create new personal accounts.
Once the tekmarNet® Gateway installation is complete, it is important that the switch setting be left in the Lock position in order to prevent unauthorized access.

Router Overview
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The 485 must be connected to a router. The router directs computer network traffic from one computing device to another. All the devices on the inside of a building form a Local Area Network (LAN). The router bridges the LAN to the internet and protects the LAN from unauthorized access from the internet using a firewall.
Most routers use a DHCP server that automatically assigns an IP address to a computer. These addresses are dynamic, which means that particular computer can be given a new IP address each time it is turned on. Since other computers must locate the 485 on the network, it is important that the 485 be given a static LAN IP address.
Login to Router Setup Page
---- ---- ----- ---- ---- -------------------------------------------------------
These directions are provided as a guide to a typical router. If the router does not follow these setup steps contact the router manufacturer, router supplier or qualified IT technician for assistance.
First locate the router setup web page on the LAN. To do this follow these steps:
Login to the 485 using a computer, tablet or smartphone.
• Click "Configuration".
• Click "Network". The 485 will list the router's IP address.
• Create a new tab on the web browser and enter the router's
• IP address into the web browser address bar. Two common router addresses are: 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1
Apple Airport Extreme and Express routers require the AirPort Utility software program to setup the router. Follow the instructions: http://www.apple.com/support/airport
Login to the router using the router's username and password. Consult with the router's manual or check the router for a sticker to locate this information.
Router DHCP Settings
- - - - -- -- -- -- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - ---------------------------------------------------
In the router settings, locate the DHCP settings. Set the DHCP IP range so that there are eight free IP addresses available. For example, if the router address is 192.168.0.1, then the DHCP range should be set to start at 192.168.0.10. This allows eight static IP addresses to be available (192.168.0.2 to 192.168.0.9). The router may need to restart when this setting is saved.
Router Port Forwarding
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
In the router settings, locate the router port forwarding rules. This feature can have other names depending on the manufacturer of the router. Other names include port address translation, network address translation (NAT) or applications and gaming.
Name the port forwarding rule "tekmar".
• Open external TCP and UDP port 80.
• In some cases, internet service providers block port 80. In
• this case open external port 3000.
Open internal TCP and UDP port 80.
• Enter the static LAN IP address of the 485 typically 192.168.0.2
• or 192.16 8.1.2

Dynamic DNS
Many Internet Service Providers (ISP) provide a static IP address with a business account. Residential accounts often have a dynamic IP address. If the ISP has provided a dynamic IP address, then a free dynamic DNS service is required. There are many free dynamic DNS services available. tekmar suggests to use a free service from NoIP.com.
Go to the web site at http://www.noip.com
• Create an account by clicking on "Sign Up".
•
When creating a NoIP account an e-mail address is required to activate the account. The same e-mail account cannot be used again to create another NoIP account. Therefore, it is recommended to use the building owner’s e-mail address. This requires the building owner to read the e-mail and click on the link to activate the NoIP service.
Fill out a username, email address, password and hostname.
• The hostname is the web address that is used to access the gateway over the internet. Click "Free Sign Up".
All No-IP settings are now complete and you can logout of the No-IP web site.
Download and install the No-IP update client on a computer or router that shares the same Local Area Network as the 485.
Download the No-IP Dynamic DNS Update Client software
•
at http://www.no-ip.com/download
Follow the steps to install the No-IP DUC software.
•
When the No-IP DUC window appears, enter the no-ip.com
• username and password.
From any computer connected to the Internet, start a web browser and enter the dynamic DNS hostname chosen and press enter. An example would be:
http://gateway485.ddns.net The gateway login page will appear. Bookmark this address
in the web browser to allow quick and easy access to the gateway while on the Internet.

Limited Warranty The liability of tekmar under this warranty is lim-
ited. The Purchaser, by taking receipt of any tekmar product (“ Product”), acknowledges the terms of the Limited Warranty in effect at the time of such Product sale and acknowledges that it has read and understands same.
The tekmar Limited Warranty to the Purchaser on the Products sold hereunder is a manufacturer’s pass-through warranty which the Purchaser is authorized to pass through to its customers. Under the Limited Warranty, each tekmar Product is warranted against defects in workmanship and materials if the Product is installed and used in compliance with tekmar’s instructions, ordinary wear and tear excepted. The pass-through warranty period is for a period of twenty-four (24) months from the production date if the Product is not installed during that period, or twelve (12) months from the documented date of installation if installed within twenty-four (24) months from the production date.
The liability of tekmar under the Limited Warranty shall be limited to, at tekmar’s sole discretion: the cost of parts and labor provided by tekmar to repair defects in materials and/or workmanship of the defective product; or to the exchange of the defective product for a warranty replacement product; or to the granting of credit limited to the original cost of the defective product, and such repair, exchange or credit shall be the sole remedy available from tekmar, and, without limiting the foregoing in any way, tekmar is not responsible, in contract, tort or strict product liability, for any other losses, costs, expenses, inconveniences, or damages, whether direct, indirect, special, secondary, incidental or consequential, arising from ownership or use of the product, or from defects in workmanship or materials, including any liability for fundamental breach of contract.
The pass-through Limited Warranty applies only to those defective Products returned to tekmar during the warranty period. This Limited Warranty does not cover the cost of the parts or labor to remove or transport the defective Product, or to reinstall the repaired or replacement Product, all such costs and expenses being su bject to Purchaser’s agreement and warranty with its customers.
Any re presentations or warranties ab out th e Products made by Pu rchaser to its customers which are different from or in excess of the tekmar Limited Warranty are the Purchaser’s sole responsibility and obligation. Purchaser shall indemnify and hold tekmar harmless from and against any and all claims, liabilities and damages of any kind or nature which arise out of or are related to any such representations or warranties by Purchaser to its customers.
The pass-through Limited Warranty does not apply if the returned Product has been damaged by negligence by persons other than tekmar, accident, fire, Act of God, abuse or misuse; or has been damaged by modifications, alterations or attachments made subsequent to purchase which have not been authorized by tekmar; or if the Product was not installed in compliance with tekmar’s instructions and/or the local codes and ordinances; or if due to defective installation of the Product; or if the Product was not used in compliance with tekmar’s instructions.
THIS WARRANTY IS IN LIEU OF ALL OTHER WARRANTIES, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, WHICH THE GOVERNING LAW ALLOWS PARTIES TO CONTRACTUALLY EXCLUDE, INCLUDING, WITHOUT LIMITATION, IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY AND FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, DURABILITY OR DESCRIPTION OF THE PRODUCT, ITS NON-INFRINGEMENT OF ANY RELEVANT PATENTS OR TRADEMARKS, AND ITS COMPLIANCE WITH OR NON-VIOLATION OF ANY APPLICABLE ENVIRONMENTA L , HEALTH OR SAFETY LEGISLATION; THE TERM OF ANY OTHER WARRANTY NOT HEREBY CONTRACTUALLY EXCLUDED IS LIMITED SUCH THAT IT SHALL NOT EXTEND BEYO ND TWENTY-FOUR (24) M ONTHS FROM TH E PRODUCTION DAT E, TO THE EXTENT THAT SUCH LIMITAT ION IS ALLOWED BY THE GOVERNING LAW.
Product Warranty Return Procedure All Products that are believed to have defects in workmanship or materials must be returned, together with a written description of the defect, to the tekmar Representative assigned to the territory in which such Product is located. If tekmar receives an inquiry from someone other than a tekmar Representative, including an inquiry from Purchaser (if not a tekmar Representative) or Purchaser’s customers, regarding a potential warranty claim, tekmar’s sole obligation shall be to pr ovide the address and other contact information regarding the appropriate Representative.
