Type C rope adjuster

Field of application

The EN 12841: 2006 I'D S descender is a type C
rope adjuster used for descending the work rope.
The I’D S is a braking device for rope that allows
the user to manually control the speed of descent
and to stop anywhere along the length of the rope
by releasing the handle.

ATTENTION, the I'D S descender must be
used with a type A backup device on a second
(safety) rope (e.g. ASAP mobile fall arrester for
rope).

The I'D S descender is not suitable for use in an
EN 363 fall arrest system.
This product must not be loaded beyond its
strength rating, nor be used for any purpose other
than that for which it is designed.

Compatibility

To satisfy the requirements of EN 12841: 2006
type C, use EN 1891 type A semi-static
kernmantel ropes from 10 - 11.5 mm in diameter.
(Note: Certification testing was performed using
BEAL Antipodes 10 mm and BEAL Ginkgo ropes).
Attach your descender directly to the harness
using an EN 362 locking carabiner.
Any equipment used with the descender (anchors,
harness, locking connectors etc.) must conform to
EN standards.

EN 12841

To limit the risk of a fall, the rope must always be
under tension between the rope adjustment device
and the anchor.
Do not load the safety line when the working line is
under tension.
Shock-loading can damage the anchor line.
Nominal maximum load = 100 kg.

EN 365

Rescue plan

You must have a rescue plan and the means
to rapidly implement it in case of difficulties
encountered while using this equipment. This
implies an adequate training in the necessary
rescue techniques.

Anchorages: Work at height

The anchor point of the system should preferably
be located above the user’s position and must
conform to the requirements of the EN 795
standard, in particular the minimum strength of the
anchor must be 10 kN.

Modifications, repairs

Any modification, addition to, or repair of the
equipment other than that authorized by Petzl
is prohibited: due to the risk of reducing the
effectiveness of the equipment.

Traceability and markings

You must check to ensure that the product
markings remain legible during the entire lifetime
of the product.

When to retire your equipment

Immediately retire any equipment if:

- it fails to pass inspection (inspection before and
during use and the periodic in-depth inspection),

- it has been subjected to a major fall or load,

- you do not know its full usage history,

- you have any doubt as to its integrity.
Destroy retired equipment to prevent further use.

Various

- WARNING DANGER, in general, take care that
your products do not rub against abrasive or sharp
surfaces.

- WARNING, when using multiple pieces of
equipment together, a dangerous situation
can result if the safety function of one piece of
equipment is compromised by the operation of
another piece of equipment.

- Users must be medically fit for activities at
height. WARNING, inert suspension in a harness
can result in serious injury or death.

- You must verify the suitability of this equipment
for use in your application with regard to applicable
governmental regulations and other standards on
occupational safety.

- The instructions for use for each item of
equipment used in conjunction with this product
must be respected.

- The instructions for use must be provided to
users of this equipment. If the equipment is
re-sold outside the original country of destination
the reseller shall provide these instructions in the
language of the country in which the product is to
be used.

Dispositif de réglage sur corde de type C

Champ d’application

Le descendeur I’I’D S certifié EN 12841 : 2006
est un dispositif de réglage sur corde de type C
destiné à être utilisés en progression vers le bas
sur la corde de travail. Le descendeur I’I’D S est
un appareil de freinage sur corde qui permet à
l’utilisateur de contrôler sa vitesse de descente
manuellement et de s’arrêter n’importe où le long
de la corde en relâchant la poignée.

ATTENTION, le descendeur I’I’D S doit
obligatoirement être utilisé avec un dispositif
de type A en contre-assurage sur une deuxième
corde appelée corde de sécurité (par exemple
un antichute mobile pour corde ASAP).

Le descendeur I’I’D S ne convient pas pour un
usage dans un système d’arrêt des chutes selon la
norme EN 363.
Ce produit ne doit pas être sollicité au-delà de ses
limites ou dans toute autre situation que celle pour
laquelle il est prévu.

Compatibilité

Pour répondre aux exigences de la norme
EN 12841 : 2006 type C, utilisez des cordes
semi-statique (âme + gaine) EN 1891 type A
de 10 à 11,5 mm de diamètre. (Nota : lors de la
certification, les tests ont été effectués avec les
cordes Antipodes BEAL 10 mm et Ginkgo BEAL).
Reliez votre descendeur directement au harnais par

un connecteur à verrouillage EN 362.
Les éléments utilisés avec votre descendeur
doivent être conformes aux normes EN (Ancrages,
Harnais, Connecteurs à verrouillage…).

EN 12841

La corde doit toujours être tendue entre le
dispositif de réglage et l’ancrage pour limiter le
risque de chute.
Lorsque vous êtes en tension sur votre support de
travail, veillez à ce que votre support de sécurité
soit non chargé.
Une surcharge dynamique est susceptible
d’endommager les supports d’assurage.
Charge nominale maximale = 100 kg.

EN 365

Plan de secours

Prévoyez un plan de secours et définissez les
moyens pour intervenir rapidement en cas
de difficultés rencontrées. Ceci implique une
formation adéquate aux techniques de sauvetage.

Les ancrages : Travail en hauteur

L’ancrage du système doit être de préférence situé
au-dessus de la position de l’utilisateur et doit
répondre aux exigences de la norme dispositifs
d’ancrage EN 795, en particulier la résistance
minimum de l’ancrage doit être de 10 kN.

Modifications, réparations

Toute modification, adjonction ou réparation autre
que celles autorisées par Petzl est interdite : risque

Seileinstellvorrichtungen des Typs C

Bestimmungsgemäßer Gebrauch

Das nach EN 12841: 2006 zertifizierte I'D S­Abseilgerät ist eine Seileinstellvorrichtung des
Typs C, die zum Abseilen am Arbeitsseil eingesetzt
wird. Das I'D S-Abseilgerät ist ein Bremsgerät,
mit dem der Anwender die Abseilgeschwindigkeit
manuell steuern und die Abseilfahrt durch
Loslassen des Hebels an jedem beliebigen Punkt
des Seils stoppen kann.

ACHTUNG: Das Abseilgerät I'D S muss
gleichzeitig mit einem Sicherungsgerät des
Typs A (z. B. das mitlaufende Auffanggerät an
beweglicher Führung ASAP) an einem zweiten
(Sicherungs-) Seil verwendet werden.

Das I'D S-Abseilgerät ist nicht als Bestandteil eines
Auffangsystems gemäß EN 363 geeignet.
Dieses Produkt darf nicht über seine Grenzen
hinaus belastet werden. Es darf ausschließlich
zu dem Zweck verwendet werden, für den es
entworfen wurde.

Kompatibilität

Verwenden Sie in Übereinstimmung mit den
Anforderungen der Norm EN 12841: 2006 Typ C
halbstatische Seile (Kern + Mantel) gemäß
EN 1891 Typ A mit 10 bis 11.5 mm Durchmesser.
(Anmerkung: Die Zertifizierungsprüfungen werden
mit den Seilen BEAL Antipodes 10 mm und BEAL
Ginkgo) durchgeführt.
Hängen Sie Ihr Abseilgerät mithilfe eines
Verriegelungskarabiners nach EN 362 direkt an

Der Anschlagpunkt des Systems muss oberhalb
des Benutzers angebracht sein und den
Anforderungen der Norm EN 795 entsprechen. Die
Mindestbruchlast des Anschlagpunkts muss 10 kN
betragen.

Änderungen, Reparaturen

Jegliche Änderungen, Zusätze und Reparaturen
an der Ausrüstung, die nicht von Petzl genehmigt
wurden, sind aufgrund des Risikos, die Effektivität
der Ausrüstung einzuschränken, verboten.

Rückverfolgbarkeit und Markierungen

Stellen Sie sicher, dass die Produktmarkierungen
während der gesamten Lebensdauer des Produkts
lesbar bleiben.

Aussondern von Ausrüstung

In den folgenden Fällen sollten Sie Ausrüstung
sofort aussondern:

- die Ausrüstung fällt bei der Überprüfung durch
(Überprüfung vor jedem Einsatz, während des
Gebrauchs und regelmäßige Hauptüberprüfung),

- die Ausrüstung wurde einem schweren Sturz
oder beträchtlicher Belastung ausgesetzt,

- die Gebrauchsgeschichte der Ausrüstung ist nicht
bekannt bzw. unvollständig,

- Sie haben irgendwelche Zweifel an der
Zuverlässigkeit.
Zerstören und entsorgen Sie alte
Ausrüstungsgegenstände sofort, um weiteren
Gebrauch zu verhindern.

Verschiedenes

- ACHTUNG, GEFAHR, achten Sie generell darauf,
dass die Produkte nicht an rauen Materialien oder
scharfkantigen Gegenständen reiben.

- WARNUNG, werden mehrere
Ausrüstungsgegenstände zusammen verwendet,
kann es zu gefährlichen Situationen kommen,
wenn die Sicherheitsfunktion eines Gegenstands
durch einen anderen Ausrüstungsgegenstand
behindert wird.

- Anwender müssen für Aktivitäten in der
Höhe gesundheitlich in guter Verfassung sein.
WARNUNG, das regungslose Hängen in einem
Gurt kann zu schweren Verletzungen oder sogar
Tod führen (Hängetrauma!).

- Überprüfen Sie die Eignung dieser Ausrüstung
für Ihre Zwecke hinsichtlich der geltenden
behördlichen Bestimmungen und Normen für die
Arbeitssicherheit.

- Die Gebrauchsanleitungen für jeden
Ausrüstungsgegenstand, der zusammen mit
diesem Produkt verwendet wird, müssen
unbedingt befolgt werden.

- Die Gebrauchsanleitungen müssen allen
Benutzern dieser Ausrüstung zur Verfügung
gestellt werden. Wird diese Ausrüstung außerhalb
des ursprünglichen Ziellands weiterverkauft,
muss der Verkäufer die Gebrauchsanleitung in der
Sprache des Landes zur Verfügung stellen, in dem
das Produkt zum Einsatz kommt.

Dispositivo di regolazione su corda di tipo C

Campo di applicazione

Il discensore I'D S certificato EN 12841 : 2006 è
un dispositivo di regolazione della corda di tipo C
destinato ad essere utilizzato nella progressione
verso il basso sulla fune di lavoro. Il discensore
I'D S è un apparecchio di frenaggio su corda che
permette all'utilizzatore di controllare la velocità
della discesa manualmente e di fermarsi ovunque
lungo la fune lasciando la maniglia.

ATTENZIONE, il discensore I'D S deve
obbligatoriamente essere utilizzato con un
dispositivo di tipo A in autoassicurazione
su una seconda corda detta di sicurezza (ad
esempio un anticaduta di tipo guidato su corda
ASAP).

Il discensore I'D S non è adatto ad un utilizzo in
un sistema di arresto caduta secondo la norma
EN 363.
Questo prodotto non deve essere sollecitato oltre i
suoi limiti o in qualsiasi altra situazione differente
da quella per cui è destinato.

Compatibilità

Per rispondere ai requisiti della norma
EN 12841 : 2006 tipo C, utilizzare delle corde
semistatiche (anima + calza) EN 1891 tipo A da 10
a 11,5 mm di diametro. (Nota : al momento della
certificazione, i test sono stati effettuati con le
corde Antipodes BEAL 10 mm e Ginkgo BEAL).
Collegare il discensore direttamente all'imbracatura
tramite un connettore a bloccaggio EN 362.
Gli elementi utilizzati con il proprio discensore
devono essere conformi alle norme EN (Ancoraggi,
Imbracature, Connettori a bloccaggio…).

EN 12841

La corda deve sempre essere tesa tra il dispositivo
di regolazione e l'ancoraggio per limitare il rischio
di caduta.
Quando si è in tensione sul proprio supporto di
lavoro, fare attenzione che il proprio supporto di
sicurezza non sia caricato.
Un sovraccarico dinamico è suscettibile di
danneggiare i supporti d'assicurazione.
Carico nominale massimo = 100 kg.

EN 365

Procedura di soccorso

Prevedere una procedura di soccorso e definire
i mezzi per intervenire rapidamente nel caso
dell'insorgere di difficoltà. Questo comporta una
formazione adeguata alle tecniche di salvataggio.

Gli ancoraggi : lavoro in quota

L'ancoraggio del sistema deve essere
preferibilmente situato al di sopra della posizione

Tracciabilità e marcature

Controllare che le marcature sul prodotto restino
leggibili durante tutta la vita del prodotto.

Eliminazione

Cessare immediatamente di utilizzare questo
prodotto se :

- il risultato dei controlli (prima, durante,
approfondito) è negativo ;

- ha subito notevoli sforzi o una forte caduta ;

- non si conosce l’intera storia del suo utilizzo ;

- si ha un minimo dubbio sulla sua affidabilità.
Distruggere i prodotti scartati per evitare un futuro
utilizzo.

Informazioni aggiuntive

- ATTENZIONE PERICOLO, in maniera generica,
verificare che i prodotti non sfreghino contro
materiali abrasivi o parti taglienti.

- ATTENZIONE, un pericolo può sopraggiungere
al momento dell'utilizzo di più dispositivi in cui
la funzione di sicurezza di uno dei dispositivi può
essere compromessa dalla funzione di sicurezza di

tipo C

Campo de aplicación

El descensor ID S certificado EN 12841 : 2006
es un dispositivo de regulación de cuerda
de tipo C para ser utilizado en progresión
hacia abajo (descender) a lo largo de la
cuerda de trabajo. El descensor I'D S es un
aparato de frenado por cuerda que permite al
usuario controlar su velocidad de descenso
manualmente y detenerse en cualquier punto a
lo largo de la cuerda soltando la empuñadura.

ATENCIÓN : el descensor I'D S debe
utilizarse obligatoriamente con un
dispositivo de regulación de cuerda de
tipo A para autoasegurarse a una segunda
cuerda denominada cuerda de seguridad
(por ejemplo, anticaídas deslizante para
cuerda ASAP).

El descensor I'D S no es adecuado para ser
utilizado en un sistema anticaídas según la
norma EN 363.
Este producto no debe ser solicitado más allá
de sus límites o en cualquier otra situación para
la que no esté previsto.

Compatibilidad

Para responder a las exigencias de la norma
EN 12841 : 2006 tipo C, utilice cuerdas
semiestáticas (alma + funda) EN 1891 tipo A
de 10 a 11,5 mm de diámetro. (Nota : para la
certificación, los ensayos se han realizado con
las cuerdas Antipodes BEAL 10 mm y Ginkgo
BEAL).
Una su descensor directamente al arnés
mediante un conector con sistema de bloqueo
EN 362.
Los elementos utilizados con su descensor
deben cumplir con los requisitos de las normas
EN (Anclajes, Arneses, Conectores con sistema
de bloqueo…).

EN 12841

La cuerda entre el dispositivo de regulación y
el anclaje siempre debe estar en tensión para
limitar el riesgo de caída.
Cuando esté en tensión sobre la línea de
trabajo, procure que la línea de seguridad no
esté cargada.
Una sobrecarga dinámica podría dañar los
soportes de aseguramiento.
Carga nominal máxima = 100 kg.

EN 365

Plan de rescate

Debe prever un plan de rescate y definir los
medios para intervenir rápidamente en caso de
encontrarse con dificultades. Esto implica una
formación adecuada en las técnicas de rescate.

Anclajes : Trabajo en altura

El anclaje del sistema debe estar situado
preferentemente por encima de la posición del
usuario y debe responder a las exigencias de la
norma relativa a dispositivos de anclaje EN 795,
en particular la resistencia mínima del anclaje
debe ser de 10 kN.

Modificaciones, reparaciones

Cualquier modificación, adición o reparación
diferentes de las autorizadas por Petzl están
prohibidas : riesgo de disminución de la eficacia
del producto.

Trazabilidad y marcados

Procure que los marcados del producto
permanezcan legibles durante toda la vida del
producto.

Dar de baja

Deje de utilizar inmediatamente este producto
si :

- el resultado de las verificaciones (antes,
durante, en profundidad) no es satisfactorio,

- ha sufrido esfuerzos importantes o una caída
importante,

- no conoce el historial completo de su
utilización,

- tiene la mínima duda de su fiabilidad.
Destruya los productos que ha dado de baja
para evitar una utilización futura.

Varios

- ATENCIÓN PELIGRO, de forma general,
procure que sus productos no rocen con
materiales abrasivos o piezas cortantes.

- ATENCIÓN : un peligro puede sobrevenir
cuando se utilizan varios equipos en los que
la función de seguridad de uno de los equipos
puede verse afectado por la función de
seguridad de otro equipo.

Self-braking descender for single rope
For static, semi-static (EN 1891) or dynamic
(EN 892) rope (of kernmantel construction).
Diameters. S: 10-11,5 mm - L: 11,5-13 m
Maximum descent distance: 200 m
Normal working load: 30-150 kg
Use: rescue and independent or assisted descent
Loads of over 150 kg are not recommended because of possible high impact
forces on other components of the system.
In exceptional cases, for example accompanied descents,
the maximum working load indicated by the standard EN 341 may be
insufficient. Laboratory tests have shown that, with precautions taken in use (no
impact force may occur), the I’D D20 can be used with a load
of up to 250 kg.

Nomenclature of parts

catch, (7) fixed side-piece, (8) handle. Principal
materials: aluminum alloy (side-pieces), stainless
steel (cam), chrome-plated steel (anti-error catch).

Checking, points to verify

Check before each use: the fixed and moving
side-pieces; the cam (check the wear indicator*­see drawing) and the friction runner; the locking
components (safety catch, side-piece pivot), and
the operation of the springs in the cam, the safety
catch, and the anti-error catch. Finally, carry out
the operational check (see diagram 2).
* Warning, when the cam groove becomes worn
all the way to the wear indicator, discontinue use
of the I’D. Depending on the rope diameter and
condition of the sheath, the descender may not
possess sufficient braking power.
If in any doubt, return the device to PETZL for
checking.

Instructions for use

This device can help prevent some errors, but not
all of them. The user must receive specific training
and always remain alert. The use of gloves is
strongly recommended.
Always tie a knot in the end of the rope.

Attach the I’D either to the harness (A) (device is
moving), or to the anchor (B) (device is fixed).
Open the moving side-piece. Insert the rope as
indicated by the engraving on the device. The
handle must be in position (c).
Close the moving side-piece (security catch) on a
locked carabiner.

Diagram 2. Operational check

Before each use, to check the correct installation of
the rope and correct operation of the device, a test
must always be carried out while self-belayed.
(A) Moving device: before descending, transfer
bodyweight onto the device, rope taut, (handle
in position c). Check that the device locks onto
the rope. Holding the free end of the rope in one
hand, pull progressively on the handle with the
other, allowing the rope to run. When the handle
is released, the I’D brakes, then locks onto the
rope. If the I’D does not lock, or if descent is
not possible due to the device remaining locked
whatever is done to the handle, check that the rope
is correctly installed. With bodyweight still on the
device, check the operation of the panic lock by
pulling hard on the handle (position d): the device
brakes then locks onto the rope.
(B) Fixed device (use for belaying or evacuation):
when the rope from the second or the load is
strongly pulled (handle in position c), the device
must lock onto the rope. Warning, in the case of
an error (rope threaded backwards) the anti-error
catch will not work. With the device under load,
check the operation of the panic lock by pushing
hard on the handle (position d): the device brakes,
then locks onto the rope.

Moving device (position c), installed on the

or tightening the grip on the free end of the rope,
while unlocking the rope by pulling the handle

with the other hand. Locking is achieved simply
by releasing the handle. In a panic situation: if the
handle is pulled too much (position d) the device
brakes, then locks onto the rope. To continue
the descent, first move the handle upwards
(position c).
Warning, if the I’D is held in a horizontal position
by the hand, the braking function can be rendered
inoperative.
For extra braking friction, pass the free end of the
rope through a carabiner.
Warning, this extra friction carabiner can lock
the I’D into a horizontal position and render the
braking function inoperative.

After having stopped at the desired position, to
lock the device onto the rope, turn the handle in
the opposite direction to that of the descent, then
pull it down as far as possible without forcing it
(position b); this position varies according to the
diameter of the rope. For work positioning (both
hands off of the rope), the I’D must be set in this
position. To unlock the system, hold the free end of
the rope in one hand, and with the other return the
handle to the descent position.

Moving device (position c or d), installed on the
harness.
The required movements are as follows:

- hang from the I’D,

- Slide the handled rope clamp/grab
ASCENSION (B17) up the rope, while lifting the
foot in the footloop (this rope clamp / grab must
be attached to the harness by a lanyard).

- stand up in the footloop attached to the rope
clamp/grab (B17) while pulling the slack rope
through the device (never allow slack to develop in
the rope),

- hang once again from the I’D,

- move up the rope clamp/grab (B17) once again,
and so on.

The device is attached to the anchor: the free end
of the rope must pass through a carabiner for extra
braking friction. Hold this free end and push the
handle upwards (position c) to unlock the device.

The device is attached to the harness. To lower
a person, attach yourself to a secure anchor,
then brace yourself in a stable position and use
a supplementary braking system. The device is
then used in a manner similar to that shown in
diagram 3.

Moving device, attached to the harness: must only
be used by rescuers trained in this technique. Maxi
250 kg, no impact loading tolerated, must be used
with a supplementary braking system.

Belaying

Pay attention to the safety of the belayer: it is
absolutely necessary that he/she be belayed so as
to avoid any risk of a fall.
Slow falls and lightweight climbers: numerous
rubbing-points over a long length of rope can
reduce the transmission of impact force onto the
device. This can delay the braking action on the
rope.

Use a dynamic rope certified to EN 892. The device
is attached (position c) to the second’s harness
(check that the rope is properly inserted before
use): the belayer holds the free end of the rope
with one hand, and the leader’s rope with the other.

For easier running of the rope, it is more important
to push the free end into the device, rather than
to pull the rope through from the leader’s side. To
stop a fall, pull firmly on the free end. To lower,
use the device in a manner similar to that shown in
diagram 7.

Diagram 10. Belaying the second / Self­belaying

The device is attached (position c) to the anchor:
with one hand, the belayer holds the free end
of the rope, and with the other, the rope to the
second. Take in the rope regularly. To stop a fall,
pull firmly on the free end of the rope. To lower,
use the device in a manner similar to that shown in
diagram 6.
Warning, in the case of an error (rope incorrectly
installed), the anti-error catch will not work with
the I’D in this position.
