Locating Your SIM Card

Your SIM (Subscriber Identity Module) card is a
small piece of plastic located in the SIM card
holder in the back of your phone, underneath the
battery.

Removing the Battery
1 With the phone powered of f, remove th e battery

2 Remove the battery by pushing the battery
toward the antenna and lifting it out.
Battery Use and Maintenance
• The Motorola iDEN Approved Lithium Ion
chargers provide optimum performance. Other
chargers may not fully charge the iDEN Lithium
Ion battery or may yield a reduced number of
lifetime charge cycles.

• Extreme temperatures deg rade battery
performance. D o not store the batter y where
temperatures exceed 140°F (60°C) or fall below
4°F (-20°C).
• Lithium Ion batteries have a self discharge rate
and without use, lose about 1% of their charge
per day.
• The battery capacity is degraded if the battery is
stored for long periods while fully charged. If
long term storage is required, store at half
capacity.

Attach the phone antenna before using your
phone. The antenna m ust be screw ed in
completely for proper oper ation and water
resistance.

Any time your phone is powered on, the display
provides you with information and o ptions.

Your phone’s features are arranged in menus,

To acces s the items in a menu or list, scroll using
the navigation key at the top of your keypad. This
key lets you scroll up, down, left, or right. Holding

SIM Ca rd Se curity
Your SIM card stores all your Contacts and
protects your personal information. Since this
information is stored on your SIM card, not in your
phone, you can remove the information by
removing your SIM card.
Note: Except for making emergency phone
calls, your phone will no t function without

time the phone is powered on. You can change the
PIN or turn off the requirement that it be entered.
Turning the PIN Requirement On and

When the SIM PIN requirement is off, your phone
can be used without entering a PIN.
Important: When the SIM PIN requirement is off,

Unblocking the PIN
If you enter your PIN incorrectly 3 times, your SIM
card is blocked. To unblock your SIM card, you
must contact Nextel Customer Care to get a PIN
Unblock Code (PUK).
Important: If you unsuccessfully enter the PUK
To unblock the PIN:
1 Press *#m1.
2 At your Nextel Customer Care representative’s
request, provide the information needed to give
you a PUK cod e.
3 Select Unblock PIN.

Locking the phone’s keypad prevents its buttons
from being pressed. When the keypad is locked,
you can on ly:

• Respond to incoming calls, messages, and
alerts
• Use the PTT butt on to init iate a call using One

activity for a specified time.

Wireless Local Number
Portability: Bringing Your
Phone Number From Another
Carrier
If you are bringing your phone number from
anothe r carrier, your new phone will be active as
soon as you receive it. Nextel will provide you with
a temporary phone number so tha t you can beg in
using your phone immediately. Once the number
you have brought to Nextel is activated, your
temporary phone number will be deactivated and
service with your previous c arrier will be cancelled
automatically. Y ou will receive a text message on
your Nextel phone letting you know that activation
is complete. Simply turn your phone off and back
on again to complete activation.
Here is additional information you need to be
aware of until the number you have brought to
Nextel is active on the Nextel network:
Nextel® Voice Mail
We suggest you set up your voice mail box after
the number you brought to Nextel is active on your
Nextel p ho ne an d y ou r t emp ora ry ph on e num be r is
deactivated. If you set up your voice mail box prior

to this, all messages and all settings (including
your greeting and password ) will be lost when the
number you have brought to Nextel becomes
active.
Text Messaging
During the activation process, it is possible that text
messages may not be properly routed to your
Nextel phone.
911 Calls
Nextel continues to make efforts to ensure that all
911 calls are minimally impacted by this process. If
you make a call to 911 from your temporary phone
number and the call fails, the 911 emergency
response cen ter wi ll no t be a bl e t o cal l yo u b ac k on
your Nextel phone i f in the meantime your Nextel
phone ha s been pr o gram med w ith y our p erma ne nt
phone nu mber. As with any wire less 911 call, if
your call is disconnected before loca tion and
details have been provided, be sure to call 911
again an d advise that you were disconnected.

Making Calls
Your i325 phone makes two types of calls: digital
cellul ar phone calls and Direct Connect calls. With
Direct Connect calls, you use your phone as a
long-range, digital walkie-tal kie.
Phone Calls
1 Enter the number you want to call.
2 Press s to place the call.
3 Press e to end the call.
Direct Connect® Calls
Nextel offers the following Direct Connect services:
• Direct Connect — allows walkie-talkie calling
within your loca l coverage area.
• Nationwide Direct Connect — allows
walkie-talkie calling to Nextel users from
anywhere on the Nextel National Network (U.S.)
to anywhere on the National Network.
• International Direct Connect — allows
walkie- ta lk ie calling t o an d fr om se le ct co untries .
• Group Connect — allow s walk ie-talki e calling to
up to 25 Nextel customers simultaneously (see
“Group C on ne c t TM Ca ll s, Talkgrou ps, and
Scangro ups ” on pag e 54 ) .

Connect services. Pricing for each of these
servic es is based on your serv ice contract.

Dialing Direct Connect® Numbers
Every Direct Connect numbe r has 3 parts — an
area ID, a network ID, and a member ID — with an
asteris k bet we en e ach of t hese p art s. For e xa mple:
999*999*9999.
When you place a Dire ct Connect call, you must
enter the whole Dir ect Connect number including
the as terisk s.
Tip: When you stor e a D i rec t Con ne ct nu mb er in
Contacts it is good practice to include the
whole Direct Connect number including the
asterisks in case you travel wi th your
phone, or another Direct Connect user
whom you are trying to reach tr avels with
their phone, outside of y our network.

Phone Calls
When you receive a p hone call, your phone rings,
vibrates, or lights up its backlight.
Answering
Press s. -or-
Press A under Yes. -or-
Press any number key.
To answer a call by pressing any number key, you
must have the Any Key Ans feature t urned on (see
“Phone Calls Features” on page 105).
Sending to Voice Mail
Press e. -or-
Press A under No.
Ending
Press e.
Direct Connect® Calls
When you receive a Direct Connect call, yo ur
phone emits a chirping sound or vibra tes.
Answering
1 Wait for the caller to finish speaking.
2 Press and hold the PTT button on the si de of
your ph on e. Beg in t alk in g a f ter you r ph on e emit s
a chirpin g sound.
3 Release the PTT button to listen.
Call Icons
When you make a call, call icons appear in the text
area of the phone’s display.
X Placing a phone call.
W Receiving a phone call.
Y Phone call is active.
Z Phone call is on hold.
U Phone ca ll ended .
When you miss a call, this icon appears in the text
area:
V You miss ed a phone ca ll.
Ways to Enter Calls
To enter the number you want to call, you can:
• Use the numbers on the keypad
• Select the number from the recent calls list
