Display

General

The display is used to select or set the following:

–the programme

–the FlexiTimer (Delay start)

–the Settings menu

The display can show the following:

–the current time of day

–the programme stage

–the estimated time left for the programme to run

–any relevant fault messages and information

To save energy, the dishwasher switches off after a few minutes if you do not press any buttons during this time.

To switch the dishwasher back on again, press the button.

Settings menu

The Settings menu is used to alter the dishwasher's electronics to suit different requirements. You access the Settings menu by pressing a specific button combination (see “Settings menu”).

The arrows in the display indicate further options. You can use the arrow buttons underneath the display, as appropriate, to select these further options.

The OK button is used to confirm a message or setting and also to move to the next menu or another level.

The option which is selected will have a tick next to it.

To exit a sub-menu, use the arrow buttons to select the Back option in the display and confirm your selection with OK.

If you do not press any of the buttons for several seconds, the display will return to the previous menu level. You may need to enter your settings again.

Correct application

This appliance complies with all current local and national safety requirements. Inappropriate use can, however, lead to personal injury and damage to property. Read the Operating instructions carefully before using the appliance for the first time. They contain important information on the safety, installation, use and maintenance of the appliance. You will prevent the risk of accidents and damage to the dishwasher. Keep these instructions in a safe place and pass them on to any future owner.

It is suitable for use in domestic households and in similar residential environments, for example by customers in hotels, motels, bed and breakfasts and other related establishments.

Glasses, cutlery and crockery are referred to generally as crockery when not more specifically defined.

This dishwasher is not suitable for continuous operation.

This dishwasher is not suitable for the reprocessing of medical products or devices.

This dishwasher is designed exclusively for use as a “dishwasher” for cleaning crockery, glassware and cutlery as described in these instructions. Alterations or conversions to the dishwasher, or using it for purposes other than those for which it is designed, are not permitted and could be dangerous.

Miele cannot be held liable for damage resulting from incorrect or improper use or operation.

This dishwasher is intended for stationary, indoor use only.

The special inserts should only be used for their specific application.

This dishwasher cannot be used by people with reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities, or lack of experience or knowledge, unless they are supervised whilst using it or have been shown how to use it in a safe way and understand and recognise the consequences of incorrect operation.

Correct application

The dishwasher is supplied with a special lamp to cope with particular conditions (e.g. temperature, moisture, chemical resistance, abrasion resistance, and vibration). This special lamp must only be used for the purpose for which it is intended, i.e. the lighting of the wash cabinet. It is not suitable for room lighting. Replacement lamps may only be fitted by a Miele authorised technician or by Miele.

Warning and Safety instructions

Correct installation

Do not install this dishwasher in an area where there is a risk of explosion or freezing conditions.

Be careful when installing the dishwasher. Wear protective gloves to avoid injury on any sharp metal components.

To ensure the stability of built-under dishwashers, they must only be installed beneath a continuous worktop that is bolted to the adjacent cabinetry.

In order to reduce the risk of damage from condensation, the furniture in the area around the dishwasher should be designed for commercial use.

The door springs on either side need to be evenly adjusted. They are correctly adjusted if the half-opened door (approx. 45° door opening angle) remains in this position when it is released. The door must not fall down under its own weight. The dishwasher may only be used with correctly adjusted door springs.

Technical safety

This dishwasher must only be installed, commissioned, repaired and maintained by Miele or a suitably qualified service technician. Installation, repairs and other work by unqualified persons could be dangerous and Miele will not be held liable.

Before using the dishwasher, check it for any externally visible damage. Under no circumstances should you use a damaged appliance. A damaged appliance could be dangerous.

In the event of a damaged or leaking dishwasher, switch off at the mains immediately and call Miele or a suitably qualified service technician.

Warning and Safety instructions

Faulty components must only be replaced by genuine Miele original spare parts. Only when these parts are fitted can Miele guarantee the safety standards of the appliance.

The electrical safety of this dishwasher can only be guaranteed when continuity is complete between it and an effective earthing system. If in any doubt, please have the electrical installation tested by a qualified electrician. Miele cannot be held liable for the consequences of an inadequate earthing system (e.g. electric shock).

Please follow the advice on installation in these instructions and the separate Installation diagram.

Before connecting the dishwasher, ensure that the connection data on the data plate (voltage, frequency and fuse rating) match the mains electrical supply.

There must be no electrical sockets behind the dishwasher. There is a danger of overheating and risk of fire if the dishwasher were to be pushed up against a plug. See “Electrical connection”.

Do not connect the dishwasher to the mains electricity supply by a multi-socket unit or an extension lead. These do not guarantee the required safety of the appliance (e.g. danger of overheating).

Never open the casing of the appliance. Tampering with electrical connections or components and mechanical parts is highly dangerous to the user and can cause operational faults.

The dishwasher must not be used if the electrical connection cable is damaged. If the cable is damaged, it must be replaced with a special cable available from Miele. For safety reasons, the replacement must only be carried out by Miele or a qualified electrician.

This dishwasher must be disconnected from the mains electricity supply before any maintenance or repair work is carried out.

Warning and Safety instructions

The plastic housing of the water connection contains two electrical components. It must not be dipped in water.

There are electrical wires in the water inlet hose. Do not cut the hose, even if it is too long.

The integrated Waterproof system offers protection from water damage, provided the following conditions are met:

–installation has been carried out correctly,

–the dishwasher is properly maintained and parts are replaced where it can be seen that this is necessary,

–the tap has been turned off during longer periods of inactivity (e.g. whilst on holiday).

–Only use new hose set supplied with the appliance. Old hose sets should not be re-used.

The Waterproof system will work even when the dishwasher is switched off. However, the dishwasher must remain connected to the electricity supply.

In areas which may be subject to infestation by cockroaches or other vermin, pay particular attention to keeping the appliance and its surroundings in a clean condition at all times. Any damage which may be caused by cockroaches or other vermin will not be covered by the warranty.

Correct use

This dishwasher is designed for operation with water and cleaning agents suitable for use in dishwashers only. Organic solvents and flammable liquid agents must not be used in it.

This could cause an explosion, damage rubber or plastic components in the dishwasher and cause liquids to leak out of it.

Only use cleaning agents which are suitable for use in a dishwasher. Unsuitable cleaning agents could adversely affect components of the dishwasher or the items being cleaned.

Avoid leaving the door open unnecessarily as someone could trip over it and be injured by it.

Do not sit, stand or lean on the opened door. The dishwasher may tip or be damaged.

After any plumbing work the water pipework to the dishwasher will need to be vented. If this is not done, components can be damaged.

Please be aware that the dishwasher may be operating at high temperatures. When the door is opened there is a danger of burning or scalding. Crockery, cutlery, baskets and inserts must be allowed to cool down before they are unloaded. Any water remaining in containers could still be very hot. Empty them into the wash cabinet before taking them out.

The water in the wash cabinet must not be used as drinking water.

Pre-treating items (for example with washing-up liquid and other cleaning agents) as well as some types of soiling and some cleaning agents can cause a build-up of foam in the wash cabinet. Foam can have an adverse effect on the cleaning result.

Foam escaping from the wash cabinet can cause damage to the dishwasher. If foam escapes, the programme must be cancelled immediately and the machine must be disconnected from the mains electrical supply.

Warning and Safety instructions

When using cleaning agents and specialised products, it is essential that the manufacturer's instructions are followed. Cleaning agents must only be used for the purpose they are designed for by the manufacturer to avoid any material damage or the occurrence of strong chemical reactions (e.g. oxyhydrogen explosion).

Do not inhale or ingest powder cleaning agent. Do not swallow dishwasher cleaning agents. They can cause burning in the nose, mouth and throat. Seek medical attention immediately if cleaning agent has been swallowed or inhaled.

Some dishwasher detergents are strongly alkaline. They can be extremely dangerous if swallowed. Avoid contact with the skin and and keep children away from the dishwasher when the door is open. Check that the detergent receptacle is empty after completion of the wash cycle.

Miele cannot be held liable for any effect chemical cleaning agents may have on the material of the items being cleaned. Observe the cleaning agent manufacturer's instructions with regard to storage conditions, use and dosage.

To avoid material damage and corrosion, do not allow any acids or solutions containing chloride to get into the wash cabinet. Similarly avoid any ferrous materials with a corrosive effect.

Do not wash items soiled with ash, sand, wax, lubricating grease or paint in the dishwasher. These materials will cause damage to the dishwasher.

Do not hose the dishwasher or near vicinity down to clean it, e.g. with a hose or a pressure washer.

The appliance must not be cleaned with a water jet.

Ensure that the stainless steel outer casing of the appliance does not come into contact with solutions or steam containing acid to avoid any corrosion damage.

Be careful when sorting items with sharp pointed ends and positioning them in the dishwasher that you do not hurt yourself or create a danger for others. Knives and other utensils with sharp points must be loaded with the pointed end facing downwards or placed in a horizontal position.

Remove any coarse food deposits and empty out any containers or utensils before loading them in the dishwasher.

Safety with children

Children should be supervised in the vicinity of the dishwasher. Do not let children play with the dishwasher. There is a danger that children might shut themselves in the dishwasher.

Young children must not be allowed to use this appliance.

Older children may only operate the dishwasher unsupervised if they have been taught how to operate it safely. Children must be able to understand and recognise the possible dangers caused by incorrect operation.

If the automatic door opening mechanism is active, keep young children away from the area in which the door opens. There is a danger of injury in the unlikely event of a fault with the opening mechanism.

Keep children away from chemical agents. These contain irritant and corrosive ingredients which can cause burning in the mouth and throat, or inhibit breathing. Keep children away from the dishwasher when the door is open. There could still be residual process chemicals in the cabinet. Seek medical advice immediately if a child has swallowed or inhaled chemical agents.

Accessories

Only use genuine Miele spare parts and accessories with this appliance. If spare parts or accessories from other manufacturers are used, this will invalidate the warranty, and Miele cannot accept liability.

Miele cannot be held liable for damage caused by non-compliance with these Warning and Safety instructions.

Caring for the environment

Disposal of the packing

material

The transport and protective packaging has been selected from materials which are environmentally friendly for disposal, and can normally be recycled.

Recycling the packaging reduces the use of raw materials in the manufacturing process and also reduces the amount of waste in landfill sites. Ensure that any plastic wrappings, bags etc. are disposed of safely and kept out of the reach of babies and young children. Danger of suffocation.

Disposing of your old

appliance

Electrical and electronic appliances often contain valuable materials. They also contain specific materials, compounds and components, which were essential for their correct function and safety. These could be hazardous to human health and to the environment if disposed of with your domestic waste or if handled incorrectly. Please do not, therefore, dispose of your old appliance with your household waste.

Please dispose of it at your local community waste collection / recycling centre for electrical and electronic appliances. You are also responsible for deleting any personal data that may be stored on the appliance prior to disposal. Please ensure that your old appliance poses no risk to children while being stored prior to disposal.

Caring for the environment

Energy-saving dishwashing

This dishwasher is exceptionally economical in its use of water and electricity.

You can make the most of your appliance by following these tips:

–For most economical dishwashing, make full use of the baskets without overloading the dishwasher.

–Choose the programme to suit the type of crockery being washed and the degree of soiling.

–Select the ECO programme for energy-saving dishwashing. This programme is the most efficient in terms of its combined energy and water consumption at cleaning normally soiled crockery.

–Follow the detergent manufacturer's recommendations on detergent dosage.

–When using powder or liquid

detergent you can use /3 less detergent if baskets are only half full.

You can find further tips on energysaving dishwashing in “Miele's guide to dishwashing”.

Commissioning

Opening the door

At the end of programmes with a drying phase (see “Programme chart”), the door will open automatically a little in order to help the drying process.

This function can be deactivated, if preferred (see “Settings menu - AutoOpen”).

Closing the door

Push the baskets right in.

Then lift the door upwards and push until it clicks into position.

Danger of injury!

Do not put your hand inside the door as it is closing.

To open the door, reach under the door grip and pull.

Open the door fully so that the door catch rail retracts again.

If the door is opened during operation, all functions are automatically interrupted.

Water in the dishwasher may be hot. Danger of scalding!

Only open the door during operation if absolutely necessary and exercise extreme caution when doing so.

Keep the area around the door free of obstructions.

Safety lock

The child safety lock can be used to prevent children opening the dishwasher. The door can then only be opened by using a lot of force.

To lock the door, push the slide underneath the door grip to the right.

To unlock the door, push the slide to the left.

Commissioning

Basic settings

Switch the dishwasher on with the

button.

The welcome screen will appear when the dishwasher is switched on for the first time.

Language

The display will change automatically to the screen for setting the language.

Use the arrow buttons to select the language you want and also the country, if appropriate, and confirm your selection with OK.

See “Display” for more information about the display and functions.

A tick will appear next to the language that has been set.

Time of day

The display will then change to the screen for setting the time.

The current time of day must be set before you can use the “FlexiTimer” programme option.

You can also show the current date and time in the display.

Use the arrow buttons to set the hour and confirm with OK.

Then set the minutes and confirm with OK.

Keeping the arrow buttons pressed in will increase or decrease the time automatically.

The display will then change to the screen for setting the clock display.

Select whether or not the time of day should appear in the display and confirm your selection with OK.

If you have selected Display On, confirm the message about higher energy consumption with OK.

Commissioning

Water hardness

The display will change to the screen for setting the water hardness.

–The dishwasher must be programmed to the correct water hardness for your area.

–Your local water authority will be able to advise you of the water hardness level in your area.

–Where the water hardness fluctuates e.g. between 1.8 and 2.7 mmol/l (10 - 15 °d - German scale), always programme the dishwasher to the higher value (2.7 mmol/l or 15 °d in this example).

In the event of a fault, it will help the service technician if you know the hardness of your local water supply.

Enter the water hardness below:

The dishwasher is programmed at the factory for a water hardness level of 2.7 mmol/l (15 °d - German scale).

Use the arrows to select the hardness of your water supply and confirm with OK.

See “Settings menu - Water hardness” for more information.

Finally, the information Miele@home

enabled and Set up finished will appear in

the display.

After confirming these prompts with

OK, the messages Add salt and

Add rinse aid may appear.

Add salt and rinse aid if necessary (see “Commissioning - Dishwasher salt” and “Rinse aid”).

Confirm the messages with OK.

The programme selected will appear briefly in the display and the relevant indicator light will come on.

Finally, the display will show the estimated programme duration for the programme selected.

These basic settings will be saved in memory after the dishwasher has been through one complete programme.

Commissioning

Before using the appliance for

the first time, you require:

–approx. 2 litres of water,

–approx. 2 kg dishwasher salt,

–detergent for dishwashers,

–rinse aid for dishwashers.

Suitable products are available from Miele.

Every dishwasher is tested at the factory. There will be residual water in the appliance from this test. It is not an indication that it has been used previously.

Dishwasher salt

In order to achieve good cleaning results, the dishwasher needs to operate with soft water. Hard water results in a build-up of calcium deposits on crockery and in the dishwasher. Mains water with a hardness level higher than 0.7 mmol/l (4 °d - German scale) needs to be softened. This takes place automatically in the integrated water softener. The water softener in the dishwasher is suitable for a water hardness level of up to 6.5 mmol/l

(36 °d - German scale).

The water softener requires reactivation salt.

If the water in your area is very soft and constantly lower than 0.9 mmol/l (5 °d - German scale), you do not have to add dishwasher salt. The prompt to add salt will be switched off automatically.

Dishwasher detergent will damage the water softener.

Do not fill the salt reservoir with powder or liquid detergent.

Only use special coarse grained dishwasher salt for reactivation, or pure evaporated salt.

Other salts (e.g. cooking salt, agricultural grade or gritting salt) may contain insoluble additives which can impair the functioning of the water softener.

Suitable products are available from Miele.

Commissioning

Filling the salt reservoir

Before filling the salt reservoir with dishwasher salt for the first time, you must fill it with approx. 2 litres of water to enable the salt to dissolve. Once the dishwasher has been used, there is always sufficient water in the reservoir.

Remove the lower basket and unscrew the salt reservoir cap.

Water or saline solution will run out of the reservoir when the cap is removed.

It should therefore only be removed in order to refill the salt reservoir.

Fill the reservoir with approx. 2 litres of water (first use only).

Place the funnel provided over the salt reservoir and carefully fill with dishwasher salt until the reservoir is full. The salt reservoir holds approx. 2 kg of salt depending on the brand used.

Clean any excess salt from around the reservoir opening and then screw the cap on again firmly.

Immediately after filling the salt reservoir, run the Cold pre-wash programme without any crockery in the dishwasher to remove any traces of salt from the cabinet.

Commissioning

Add salt reminder

Fill the salt reservoir with dishwasher salt for reactivation when Add salt appears in the display (If it appears during a programme, wait until the end of the programme).

Confirm with OK.

The refill reminder will go out.

Risk of corrosion! Immediately after filling the salt

reservoir, run the Cold pre-wash programme without any crockery in the dishwasher to remove any traces of salt from the cabinet.

After the salt reservoir has been filled, the refill reminder may still appear in the display if the salt concentration has not yet reached the correct level. If this is the case, confirm again with OK.

The refill reminder will be switched off if you have programmed the dishwasher for a water hardness below 0.9 mmol/l (5 °d - German scale).

If you do not want the refill reminders to appear, you can switch off both refill reminders for salt and rinse aid if you wish (see “Settings menu - Switching off the refill reminders”).

Commissioning

Rinse aid

Adding rinse aid

Rinse aid is necessary to ensure water does not cling to and leave marks on crockery during the drying phase and helps crockery dry faster after it has been washed.

Rinse aid is poured into the storage reservoir and the amount set is dispensed automatically.

Fill the reservoir with rinse aid for domestic dishwashers only. Do not fill it with washing-up liquid or cleaning agent.

This would damage the rinse aid reservoir.

Suitable products are available from Miele.

Alternatively, you can use

–household vinegar with an acid level no higher than 5%

– 10% liquid citric acid.

The resulting rinsing and drying quality will not be as good as when rinse aid is used.

Do not use vinegar with a high acidic level (e.g. vinegar concentrate 25%)

This may damage the dishwasher.

Press the button on the lid of the rinse aid reservoir in the direction of the arrow until the flap springs open.

Commissioning

Add rinse aid only until it is visible in the opening.

The rinse aid reservoir holds approx.

110ml.

Close the flap firmly so that it clicks into place. Otherwise water can enter the rinse aid reservoir during a programme.

Wipe up any spilled rinse aid. This prevents over-foaming occurring during the next programme.

You can adjust the rinse aid dosage for best results (see “Settings menu - Rinse aid”).

Add rinse aid reminder

When the Add rinse aid message appears in the display, the reservoir contains sufficient rinse aid for 2 - 3 programmes only.

Add rinse aid in plenty of time.

Confirm with OK.

The add rinse aid reminder disappears.

If you do not want the salt and rinse aid reminders to appear, you can switch off both refill reminders for salt and rinse aid if you wish (see “Settings menu - Switching off the refill reminders”).

Loading the dishwasher

Notes

Remove coarse food residues from crockery.

There is no need to rinse items under running water.

Do not wash items soiled with ash, sand, wax, lubricating grease or paint in the dishwasher. Ash does not dissolve and is distributed in the wash cabinet. Wax, sand, lubricating grease and paint cause damage to the dishwasher.

Crockery can be loaded anywhere in the baskets, but the following notes should be observed:

–Do not place crockery and cutlery inside other pieces where they may be concealed.

–Load the crockery so that water can access all surfaces. This ensures that they get properly cleaned.

–Make sure that all items are securely positioned.

–Hollow items such as cups, glasses, pans, etc. must be inverted in the basket.

–Tall, narrow, hollow items, e.g. champagne glasses, should be placed in the centre of the basket to ensure better water coverage.

–Wide based items should be placed at an angle so that water can run off them freely.

–The spray arms must not be blocked by items which are too tall or hang through the baskets. If in doubt, test for free movement by manually rotating the spray arms.

–Make sure that small items cannot fall through the holders in the baskets.

Small items, e.g. lids, should therefore be placed in the cutlery tray or cutlery basket (depending on model).

Some foodstuffs may contain natural dyes, e.g. carrots, tomatoes or tomato sauce. Plastic items in the dishwasher may discolour if large quantities of these foodstuffs find their way into the dishwasher on the crockery. The stability of plastic items is not affected by this discolouration.

Cleaning silver cutlery in the dishwasher may also cause plastic items to discolour.

Loading the dishwasher

Items not suitable for dishwashers:

–Wooden cutlery and crockery or items with wooden parts: these may discolour and fade. The glue used in these items is not dishwasher-proof and wooden handles may come loose after being washed in a dishwasher.

–Craft items, antiques, valuable vases and decorative glassware are also not suitable for dishwashers.

–Plastic items which are not heatresistant: the high temperatures in the dishwasher may cause them to melt or lose shape.

–Copper, brass, tin and aluminium items may discolour or become matt.

–Colours painted over a glaze may fade after a number of washes.

–Delicate glassware and glassware containing lead crystal: clouding may occur over time.

Please note

Silverware previously cleaned with a silver polish may still be damp or spotted at the end of a programme, where water has not run off smoothly. It may need to be rubbed dry with a soft cloth.

Silver which has been in contact with foods containing sulphur can discolour. These include egg yolk, onions, mayonnaise, mustard, pulses, fish, fish brine and marinades.

Aluminium components (e.g. rangehood grease filters) must not be cleaned with caustic alkaline commercial or industrial cleaning agents.

These may damage the material, or in extreme cases, there is a risk of a severe explosive chemical reaction (such as an explosive oxyhydrogen gas reaction).

Useful tip: When purchasing new crockery and cutlery, make sure they are dishwasher-proof.

Glass care

–Clouding may occur on glasses after frequent washing. When washing delicate glassware in the dishwasher, ensure that only a special glass care programme with very low temperatures (see Programme chart) is selected. This will reduce the risk of clouding.

–Purchase glassware which is dishwasher-safe (e.g. Riedel glassware).

–Use detergents with glass protective additives.
