Warning and Safety instructions
Building in and connection
The appliance must be installed
and connected by a suitably quali
fied and competent person in strict ac
cordance with national and local safety
regulations. The manufacturer cannot
be held responsible for damage
caused by incorrect installation or con
nection.
The electrical safety of this appli
ance can only be guaranteed when
continuity is complete between the ap
pliance and an effective earthing sys
tem, which complies with local and na
tional safety regulations. It is most important that this basic safety requirement is tested by a qualified electrician.
The manufacturer cannot be held responsible for the consequences of an
inadequate earthing system such as an
electric shock.
Do not connect the appliance to
the mains electrical supply by an
extension lead. Extension leads do not
guarantee the required safety of the ap
pliance.
-
-
The hob may not be built in over a
dishwasher, a washing machine or
tumble dryer, or over a fridge,
fridge-freezer or freezer. The high tem
peratures radiating downwards from the
hob could damage these appliances.
Because of the heat radiated
-
-
-
-
downwards it is not recommended
fitting this appliance over a drawer. It
should be fitted in a suitable base unit
with a dummy drawer front and an ad
ditional protective base between the
appliance and the unit.
This equipment is not designed for
maritime use or for use in mobile
installations such as caravans, aircraft
etc. However it may be suitable for
such usage subject to a risk assessment of the installation being carried
out be a suitably qualified engineer.
-
-
6
Warning and Safety instructions
Correct usage
Before installing and using the ap
pliance for the first time, read the
operating and installation instructions
carefully. They give information on
safety, on the operation and care of the
appliance. This way you will avoid the
risk of accidents and damage to the
appliance.
Do not let children access the ap
pliance or its controls. Supervise its
use by the elderly or infirm.
This appliance must only be oper
ated as a built-in appliance. This is
necessary to ensure that all electrical
components are shielded.
This appliance is intended for do-
mestic use only and is not to be
used for commercial purposes.
Use this appliance for the prepara
-
-
-
tion of meals only. Any other usage
is at the owner’s risk and could be dan
gerous. The manufacturer cannot be
held responsible for damage caused
by improper use or misuse of the appli
ance.
Do not use the appliance to heat
up the room. Due to the high tem
peratures radiated objects left near the
appliance could catch fire.
-
-
-
-
7
Warning and Safety instructions
Protection from damage
Do not drop anything on the appli
ance. Even a light object such as a
salt cellar, could cause damage in cer
tain circumstances.
Do not use pots or pans on the ce
ramic hob with bases with pro
nounced edges or ridges. These could
scratch or scour the hob surface per
manently. Grains of salt and sand can
also scratch.
Do not allow either solid or liquid
sugar or pieces of plastic or alu
minium foil to get on the cooking zones
when they are hot. If this should occur,
switch off the hob and carefully scrape
off all the sugar, plastic or aluminium remains from the hob while it is still hot
using a shielded scraper blade. Take
care not to burn yourself. If these residues are allowed to cool before the hob
surface has been cleaned, the ceramic
surface will be susceptible to pitting or
even cracking.
Danger of burning.
Clean the appliance once it has cooled
down.
-
-
-
Remove any soiling as quickly as
-
-
-
possible to prevent it from burning
on to the ceramic surface and ensure
that pan bases are clean, dry and free
of grease before use.
Under no circumstances use a
steam-cleaning appliance to clean
the ceramic hob. Pressurised steam
could cause permanent damage to the
surface and to components, for which
the manufacturer cannot accept re
sponsibility.
Unless the pan manufacturer
states that you can do so, you
should never use pans with thin bases
on this hob and you should never heat
up an empty pan. Otherwise the hob
could get damaged.
Never place hot pans near the con-
trol area. This could damage the
electronic controls underneath.
In countries where there are areas
which may be subject to infestation
by cockroaches or other vermin, pay
particular attention to keeping the appli
ance and its surroundings in a clean
condition at all times. Any damage
which may be caused by cockroaches
or other vermin will not be covered by
the appliance guarantee.
-
-
8
Warning and Safety instructions
Protection from burning
The surface of the hob is hot when
in use, and remains hot for a time
after being switched off. Keep children
away. There is a danger of burning until
the residual heat indicator goes out.
Do not store anything which might
arouse a child’s interest in storage
areas above or next to the hob. Other
wise they could be tempted into climb
ing onto the appliance with the risk of
burning themselves.
Use heat-resistant pot holders or
gloves when handling hot pots and
pans. Do not let them get damp or wet,
as this causes heat to transfer through
the material more quickly with the risk
of burning yourself.
Keep all pans out of reach of chil-
dren. Turn pan handles inwards
away from the edge of the hob.
Special hob guards are available from
good retail outlets.
-
Do not heat up unopened contain
ers of food, e.g. tins, on the hob, as
pressure can build up and they may ex
plode. This could result in injury and
scalding or damage.
Do not use the hob as a resting
place for anything else. This could
lead to a danger of the article begin
ning to melt or catching fire, if residual
heat were still present or if the hob were
to be switched on inadvertently.
Never cover the hob with a cloth or
a hob cover sheet. There is a dan
ger of this burning if the hob is
switched on.
-
-
-
-
9
Warning and Safety instructions
Never leave the hob unattended
when cooking with oil or fat. Very
hot oil can catch fire. Always heat fat
slowly, watching as it heats.
If oil or fat does catch fire despite
this do not attempt to put out the
flames with water. Use a suitable fire
blanket or fire extinguisher.
Never flambé under a cooker
hood. The flames could set the
cooker hood on fire.
If a drawer is to be fitted below the
hob, ensure that no aerosols, com
bustible liquids or other easily flamma
ble materials are kept in the drawer. If
cutlery inserts are to be placed in the
drawer, these must be made of a suit
able heat-resistant material.

Warning and Safety instructions
Appliance fault
In the event of damage or any
breakages or cracks the ceramic
hob must be switched off immediately
and disconnected from the electricity
supply. Contact the Service Depart
ment. Ensure the hob is not recon
nected and do not use the hob until the
damaged ceramic plate has been re
placed. Continued use would be dan
gerous as liquids etc. boiling over
could penetrate to the electrical com
ponents through any crack.
Ensure that the appliance is dis
connected from the electricity supply before any servicing or repair work.
Any repairs may only be carried
out by suitably qualified and competent persons to ensure safety. Repairs and other work by unqualified
persons could be dangerous. Under no
circumstances open the outer casing of
the appliance.
While the appliance is under guar
antee repairs should only be un
dertaken by a service engineer author
ised by the manufacturer. Otherwise the
guarantee is invalidated.

Further safety notes
When using an electric socket near
the hob, care should be taken that
the cable of the electrical appliance
does not come into contact with the hot
cooking zones. The insulation on the
cable could become damaged giving
rise to an electric shock hazard.
Always ensure that food is suffi
ciently cooked or reheated. Some
foods may contain micro organisms
which are only destroyed by thorough
cooking, therefore when cooking or re
heating foods, e.g. poultry, select a lon
ger cooking or reheating time.
Do not use plastic or aluminium foil
containers. These melt at higher
temperatures and could damage the
ceramic surface. Fire hazard.
Keep children away from the appli-
ance at all times.
If a pet gets on the hob it could
-
-
touch a sensor switch and switch
the hob on. Therefore keep pets away
from the appliance at all times.
The manufacturer cannot be held lia
ble for damage caused by non-com
pliance with these safety instruc
tions.

Before using for the first time
Disposal of the packing
material
The transport and protective packing
has been selected from materials which
are environmentally friendly for disposal
and can normally be recycled.
Ensure that any plastic wrappings,
bags etc. are disposed of safely and
kept out of the reach of babies and
young children. Danger of suffocation!
Rather than just throwing these materi
als away, please ensure that they are
offered for recycling.
-
Disposal of your old appliance
Old appliances contain materials which
can be reclaimed or recycled. Please
contact your dealer, your local waste
collection centre or scrap merchant
about potential recycling schemes.
Before discarding an old appliance
switch off and disconnect it from the
power supply. Cut off and render
any plug useless. Cut off the cable
directly behind the appliance to pre
vent misuse. This should be done by
a competent person.
Ensure that the appliance presents
no danger to children while being
stored for disposal.
-
13
Before using for the first time
Cleaning and heating up for
the first time
Before using for the first time, clean the
appliance with a damp cloth only and
then wipe dry.
Do not use washing-up liquid on the
ceramic surface as it can leave a
blue sheen on the surface which
may be difficult to remove.
Metal components have a protective
coating which may give off a slight
smell when the hob is heated up for the
first time.
The smell and any vapours will dissi
pate after a short time and do not indi
cate a faulty connection.

Use
Function of the sensor
switches
This hob is equipped with electronic
sensor controls. These react to finger
contact.
To operate the cooking zones touch the
appropriate sensor switch with your fin
ger.
An audible tone confirms when a sen
sor switch reacts to being touched.
Make sure only one sensor switch is
touched at a time (exception: turning
a cooking zone off). Take care to
keep the control area clean. Do not
put things down on it. The sensors
may fail to react or they could mistake the article or any dirt for a finger
tip contact, thereby activating a
function or even leading to the hob
switching itself off automatically (see
the section on "Safety switch-off").
Never place hot pans on the switch
areas. This can damage the electronics.
-
Switching on the hob
The hob must be switched on before
any of the zones can be used.
Proceed as follows:
Touch the ON / OFF sensor switch s.
^
The hob is now switched on and a 0
appears in each of the zones. If no fur
ther entry is made, the hob switches it
self off for safety reasons after a few
seconds and the zeros disappear. If a
zone is hot its display will then show an
H for residual heat (see section "Resid
ual heat indicator").

Danger of burning and fire!
Please note that the residual heat indicator display does not light up after a power cut, even if the zones
are still hot.
19
Use
Child safety lock
Keep children away from the hob for
their own safety. In addition, your appli
ance is equipped with a child safety
lock to prevent children switching on
the cooking zones or altering the set
tings.
The child safety lock can be activated
when the hob is switched off as well as
when it is in use.
If the child safety lock is activated
when the hob is switched off then the
hob cannot be switched on.
If the child safety lock is activated

Safety switch-off if the sensor
switches are covered
Your hob will switch itself off automati
cally if one or several of the sensor
switches remain covered for more than
about 10 seconds, for example by fin
ger contact, food boiling over, or by an
object such as an oven glove or a tea
towel.
At the same time as the hob switches it
self off an audible tone will sound every
30 seconds (for a maximum of 10 min
utes) and an F will flash in the display of
the sensor switch which has been cov
ered:
-

Clean the control area or remove the
^
obstruction.
This will turn off the tone and the F will
go out.
Switch the hob back on again with
^
the ON / OFF sensor switch s. The
cooking zones can now be used
once again.
-
-
22
Use
Overheating protection
Each cooking zone is equipped with
overheating protection (internal temper
ature limiter). This switches off the heat
ing elements in the cooking zone be
fore the ceramic surface overheats.
Once the ceramic has cooled down to
a safe level the heating will automati
cally switch back on again.
-
-
The overheating protection may be acti
vated if:
a cooking zone is switched on with
-
–
out a pan on it.
an empty pan is heated up.
–
the base of a pan is not sitting evenly
–
on the cooking zone.
the pan is not conducting the heat
–
properly.
You can tell that the overheating protec
tion has activated because the heating
switches on and off even when the
highest setting is selected.
-
-
-
23
Use
Tips on saving energy
For optimum energy consumption
–
during cooking, only pans with flat or
very slightly concave bases should
be used. When the pan is hot, the
base should rest evenly on the ce
ramic surface.
Uneven bases will lengthen cooking
time. Check for suitability when pur
chasing new pans.
coldhot
– Check that the diameter of the pan
base is wide enough for the cooking
zone so that heat is not lost unnecessarily.
Often the maximum diameter quoted
by manufacturers refers to the diameter of the top rim of the pot or pan.
The diameter of the base (generally
smaller) is more important.
Use a pan lid whenever possible to
–
minimise heat loss.
-
-

When cooking for a long time, switch
the cooking zone off about 10 to 15
minutes before the end of the cooking time. In this way use is made of
the residual heat.

24
Cleaning and care
Under no circumstances use a
steam cleaner to clean this appli
ance. Pressurised steam could
cause permanent damage to the
surface and to components for
which the manufacturer cannot ac
cept responsibility.
Do not use any sharp pointed ob
jects which could damage the seal
between the ceramic surface and
the surrounding frame and between
the frame and the worktop.
Never use scouring agents or pads,
abrasive cleaning agents, or strong
cleaners such as oven sprays, stain
or rust removers, as these could
damage the surface of the appliance.
Do not use washing up liquid on the
ceramic surface as it can leave a
blue sheen on the surface which
may be difficult to remove.
-
-
-
The ceramic surface can be cleaned
using a proprietary cleaning agent
specifically designed for ceramic
surfaces. Follow the manufacturer’s
instructions on the packaging.
Ensure that every trace of cleaner
has been removed from the surface
by wiping the cooking zones care
fully with a damp cloth. Any remain
ing trace could have a damaging ef
fect on the hob when heated up.
After cleaning, the ceramic surface
must be thoroughly dried with a soft
cloth to prevent a build up of lime
scale deposits.
Remove any soiling as quickly as
possible to prevent it from burning
on to the ceramic surface and ensure that pan bases are clean, dry
and free of grease before use.
-
-
-
25
Cleaning and care
The ceramic surface should be cleaned
regularly, preferably after each use.
Before cleaning allow the hob to cool
down. Wipe soiling off using a damp
cloth. Stubborn soiling is best removed
with a shielded scraper blade.
Then apply a proprietary cleaning
agent for ceramic surfaces using a soft
cloth or kitchen paper towel. This way
any limescale deposits, caused for ex
ample by water boiling over, are re
moved.
If desired, you could use a cleaning
agent with a protective additive de
signed to prevent water marks and
smears adhering to the surface.
Finally wipe the hob surface with a
damp cloth and then dry it with a clean
soft cloth.
-
-
-
Should any sugar, plastic or aluminium foil spill or fall on to the hob
while it is in use, first switch off the hob.
Then, immediately, while the surface is
still hot, use a shielded scraper blade
to scrape off the sugar, plastic or alu
minium foil, taking care not to burn
yourself. Allow the hob to cool down
and then clean with a suitable propri
etary ceramic hob cleaner.

Problem solving guide
... the hob switches off while it is in
use and an H or a flashing F appears
in the display for at least one of the
cooking zones and at the same time
an audible tone sounds
One of the cooking zones has probably
been on for too long, or one of the
switch areas may have been covered
(see section "Safety switch-off").
What to do if ...
... the hob or cooking zones cannot
be switched on
Check whether
– the child safety lock is activated.
If necessary, switch it off (see section
"Child safety lock").
– the house mains fuse has blown.
If none of the above is the case, then
disconnect the appliance from the electricity supply for approx. 1 minute. To
do this:
–
switch off at the isolator, or
–
withdraw the mains fuse
Reconnect the appliance to the elec
tricity supply and if the hob still does
not heat up, contact a qualified electri
cian or the Miele Service Dept. (See
back page for address).
-
-
... the heating switches on and off at
the highest setting on one of the
cooking zones
The overheating protection has been
activated (see section "Overheating
protection").
... the food in the pan hardly heats up
or does not heat up at all when the
Auto heat-up function is switched on
This could be because:
– the pan does not transfer the heat
properly.
–
there is too much food in the pan.
–
Select a higher continued cooking
setting or start cooking at the highest
setting and then turn down to a lower
setting manually later on.
27
Problem solving guide
... the sensor switches react
oversensitively?
The sensitivity of the sensor switches
has been adjusted. You can correct the
error as follows:
Make sure that there is no direct light
–
(sun- or artificial light) on the hob or
its surroundings nor that it is too
dark.
Disconnect the hob from the power
–
supply for approx. 1 minute.
As soon as the power supply is recon
nected, the electronic will automatically
readjust the sensitivity of the sensor
switches.
Should the problem persist, please
–
contact your Service Department.
