Technical safety
The cooling system has been checked for leaks. This appliance
~
complies with all applicable local and national safety requirements.
This appliance contains the refrigerant isobutane (R600a), a
~
natural gas which is environmentally friendly. Although it is flammable, it does not damage the ozone layer and does not increase the greenhouse effect. The use of this refrigerant has, however, led to a slight increase in the noise level of the appliance. In addition to the noise of the compressor, you might be able to hear the refrigerant flowing throughout the system. Though this is unavoidable, it does not have any adverse effect on the performance of the appliance. Care must be taken during the transport and installation/setup of the appliance so that no parts of the cooling system are damaged. Refrigerant spurting out of the cooling system can damage the eyes. In the event of any damage:
Avoid open flames and anything that creates sparks,
Disconnect the appliance from the electricity supply,
Ventilate the room in which the appliance is located for several minutes,
Contact Miele.
The more refrigerant there is in an appliance, the larger the room
~
it should be installed in. In the event of a leakage, there is a danger of combustible gases building up if the appliance is in too small of a room. For every8gofrefrigerant, at least 1 m The amount of refrigerant contained in the appliance is stated on the data plate inside the appliance.
3
of room space is required.
11
Warning and safety instructions
To avoid the risk of damage to the appliance, make sure that the
~
connection data (fuse rating, frequency and voltage) on the data plate corresponds to the household supply. Check that this is the case before connecting the appliance. When in doubt, consult a qualified electrician.
The electrical safety of this appliance can only be guaranteed
~
when it is properly grounded. Compliance with this essential safety requirement is absolutely necessary. If in any doubt, please have the electrical installation tested by a qualified electrician.
If the power cable is damaged, it must be replaced by an
~
authorized Miele technician in order to avoid any danger to the user.
Do not use a power strip or extension cord to connect the
~
appliance to electricity. These are a fire hazard and do not guarantee the required level of appliance safety.
Do not use the appliance in a damp or wet environment (e.g.
~
garage or utility room). Moisture could reach live components or the electrical connection and cause a short circuit.
12
Warning and safety instructions
This appliance must not be installed and operated in mobile
~

A damaged appliance can be dangerous. Always check for
~
visible signs of damage. Never use a damaged appliance.
For safety reasons, this appliance may only be used when it has
~
been fully installed.
During installation, maintenance and repair work, the appliance
~
must be disconnected from the electricity supply. It is only completely isolated from the electricity supply when:
– The main circuit breaker has been tripped, or
– The plug fuses have been fully unscrewed (where applicable), or
– The power cable has been disconnected from the electricity
supply. If the power cable has a plug, pull on the plug to disconnect it from the electricity supply. Do not pull on the cable.
Installation, maintenance and repair work should only be
~
performed by a Miele authorized service technician. Installation, maintenance and repair work by unqualified persons can cause considerable danger to users.
Any repairs not performed by a Miele authorized service
~
technician will void the warranty.
Miele can only guarantee the safety of the appliance when
~
genuine Miele spare parts are used. Defective components must only be replaced by genuine Miele spare parts.
13
Warning and safety instructions
Proper use
The appliance is designed for use within a certain climate class
~
(room temperature range) and should not be used outside this range. The climate class for your appliance is stated on the data plate inside the appliance. Operation in a room which is too cold will cause the compressor to switch off for longer periods so that the appliance cannot maintain the required temperature.
WARNING! Danger of damage from overheating. May restrict
~
operation. Keep ventilation openings, in the appliance enclosure or in the built-in structure, clear of obstruction.
If storing fatty or greasy foods in the appliance or the appliance
~
door, make sure that no oil or grease leaks onto the plastic parts of the appliance. This can cause the plastic to crack and break.

23
The correct temperature
It is very important to set the correct temperature for storing food in the appliance. Microorganisms will cause food which is not stored at the correct temperature to spoil rapidly. Temperature influences the growth rate of these microorganisms. Reducing the temperature reduces their growth rate.
The temperature in the appliance will rise:
If the door is opened frequently or
kept open too long.
If the amount of food stored in it
increases.
– If food that is placed into it is too
warm.
– If the room temperature is too high.
The appliance is designed for use within a certain climate class (room temperature range) and should not be used outside this range.
...intherefrigerator
We recommend a temperature of 4°C (39°F) in the refrigerator.
...inthefreezer
To freeze fresh food and to store frozen food for a long time, a temperature of
-18°C (0°F) is required. At this temperature the growth of microorganisms essentially ceases. As soon as the temperature rises above
-10°C (14°F), the microorganisms become active in the food again so that it cannot be kept as long. For this reason, partially defrosted or fully defrosted food must not be refrozen. Food may be refrozen after it has been cooked, as the high temperatures achieved during cooking destroy most microorganisms.
24
The correct temperature
Temperature display
In normal operation, the temperature display shows the actual mean refrigerator temperature and the current temperature in the warmest part of the freezer.
Dashes will flash in the display if the temperature in the freezer is not within the displayable range.
Depending on the room temperature and the temperature setting, it can take several hours until the desired temperature is reached and shown as a constant temperature in the display.
If the temperature in the freezer remains above -18°C (0°F) for a longer period of time, check that the frozen food has not started to defrost. If it has, check that the food is safe to use and if it is, then use it as soon as possible.
Setting the temperature
The temperatures for the refrigerator and the freezer are set separately.
Select the refrigerator or freezer.
^
Use the two buttons below the
^
display to set the temperature.
Tap the
– to decrease the temperature
to increase the temperature
The temperature being set will flash in the display.
25
The correct temperature
When you tap the buttons, you will see the following changes in the display:
Tapping a button once: The last
temperature selected flashes.
Each subsequent tap of a button:
Adjusts the temperature shown in 1° increments.
Keeping your finger on the button:
The temperature changes continuously.
Approximately 5 seconds after you release the button, the temperature display automatically switches to the actual temperature inside the appliance.
Or
^ Touch the OK button to confirm your
selection.
If you have adjusted the temperature,
wait approx. 6 hours if the appliance is not very full and approx. 24 hours if the appliance is full before checking
the temperature display, as it will take this long for the appliance to give an accurate reading.
Temperature range
The temperature can be adjusted:
From 1°C (34°F) to 9°C (48°F) in the
refrigerator
From -15°C (5°F) to -26°C (-15°F) in
the freezer
If the temperature is still too high or too low after this time, you will need to adjust it again.
26
Using SuperCool and SuperFreeze
SuperCool
The SuperCool function can be used to rapidly reduce the temperature in the refrigerator to its lowest setting (depending on the room temperature).
Switching on SuperCool
SuperCool is particularly recommended for the fast chilling of large amounts of fresh food or drink.
^ Touch the refrigerator button.
The refrigerator symbol will light up yellow.
Switching off SuperCool
The SuperCool function switches off automatically after approx. 12 hours. The refrigerator will once again operate at normal cooling power.
To save energy, the SuperCool function can be switched off once food and drinks are sufficiently chilled.
^ Touch the refrigerator button.
The refrigerator symbol will light up yellow.
^
Touch the SuperCool button so that it is highlighted yellow.
The appliance will work at full power to lower the temperature in the appliance.
^ Touch the SuperCool button so that it
is no longer highlighted yellow.
The appliance will continue running at normal power.
27
Using SuperCool and SuperFreeze
SuperFreeze
For the best freezing results, switch on the SuperFreeze function before putting fresh food into the freezer.
This helps food to freeze quickly and retain its nutrients, vitamins, flavours and appearance.
Super freeze is not necessary:
When placing food in the freezer that
is already frozen.
When only freezing up to 2 kg of
fresh food daily.
Switching on SuperFreeze
When freezing smaller quantities of food in the freezer, the SuperFreeze function should be switched on 6 hours
beforehand. When freezing the maximum load of food, the
SuperFreeze function should be switched on 24 hours ahead of time.
^ Touch the freezer button.
The freezer symbol will light up yellow.
^ Touch the SuperFreeze button so that
it is highlighted yellow.
28
The appliance will work at full power to lower the temperature in the appliance.
Using SuperCool and SuperFreeze
Switching off SuperFreeze
The SuperFreeze function switches off automatically after approx. 30 - 65 hours. The amount of time until the SuperFreeze function is switched off depends on the amount of fresh food that was placed in the freezer. The SuperFreeze symbol ª goes out and the freezer will once again operate at normal cooling performance.
To save energy, you can manually switch off the SuperFreeze function once a constant temperature of -18°C (0°F) or colder has been reached in the freezer. Keep an eye on the temperature as it falls.
^ Touch the freezer button.
The freezer symbol will light up yellow.
^
Touch the SuperFreeze button so that it is no longer highlighted yellow.
The appliance will continue running at normal power.
29
Temperature and door alarm
Your appliance is equipped with a warning system which ensures that temperature increases in the freezer do not go unnoticed and also prevents energy from being wasted when a door is left open.
Temperature alarm
If the freezer temperature becomes too warm, the freezer button will flash and the alarm symbol ; in the display will flash simultaneously. An alarm will also sound.
The appliance uses the set temperature to identify a temperature as being too warm.
Audible and visual signals will be activated, for example,
– When the appliance is switched on
and the temperature in a temperature zone differs greatly from the set temperature.
– When too much room-temperature air
enters the freezer when food is being loaded, rearranged or removed.
If the temperature in the freezer remains above -18°C (0°F) for a longer period of time, check that the frozen food has not started to defrost. If it has, check that the food is safe to use. If this is the case, use it as soon as possible or cook it before freezing it again.
Switching the alarm off early
If you are bothered by the sound of the alarm, you can switch the alarm off early.
^ Touch the Alarm off button.
The sound of the alarm will stop. Both the freezer button on the control panel and the ; symbol in the display will continue to flash until the freezer returns to the set temperature.
When freezing large amounts of food at the same time.
When there is a loss of power.
If the appliance is faulty.
Once the set temperature has been reached in the freezer, the alarm switches off and the alarm symbol ; disappears. The freezer button is once again constantly illuminated.
