SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS

About these instructions
Read these instructions carefully before using the radio. Note the warnings in the operating instructions.
Always keep the operating instructions close to hand. If you sell the radio or give it away, please ensure that you also pass on these instructions.

Keep electrical equipment out of reach of children

Electric devices do not belong in the hands of children. Never let children younger than six years handle the unit unsupervised.
Batteries can endanger life if swallowed. For this reason, keep the radio and batteries out of reach of children. If a battery is swallowed, please obtain immediate medical assistance.
Keep plastic packaging out of the reach of children. There is a risk of suffocation.
The appliance is not intended for use by young children or infirm persons without supervision.

Environmental requirements

Always ensure that
the mains adapter never comes into contact with
water, including drips and splashes, during operation,
the radio is not exposed to prolonged direct sunlight,naked flames, such as lit candles,
or near the radio.

AFETY INSTRUCTIONS

Ensure that the mains power socket is easily accessible.

Connect the mains cable always to a mains socket 240V ~ 50Hz which is easily accessible. The power socket must be freely accessible so that you can unplug the device quickly if necessary.
Do not use the unit with an extension cable. There is a risk of tripping.

Never undertake your own repairs

If the plug, cable or appliance is damaged, immediately remove the plug from the power supply.
Never try to open and/or repair the radio or mains adapter yourself. There is a risk of electric shock. If there is a defect contact the MEDION Help Desk at 1300 884 987.

Thunder storms

Pull the plug out from the mains socket if you are away for a long period or there is a thunder storm.

Battery disposal

Replace batteries only with the same or an equivalent type. Do not recharge or dispose batteries in fire. Keep batteries away from children.

Cleaning the radio

Before cleaning, pull the plug out of the mains socket. Use a dry, soft cloth to clean the radio. Avoid the use of chemical solutions and cleaning products because these may damage the radio's surface and/or labels.

Unpacking the radio

Remove all packing materials.
WARNING! Do not let children play with the plastic wrapping. There is a risk of suffocation.

Power connection

Mains adapter

Use the adapter plug to run the radio from the mains (without batteries).

Earphones

Use the earphones as an alternative to the internal loudspeaker.
` Connect the DC output plug of the mains adapter to
the 6V DC socket on the side of the radio.
` Plug the mains adapter into an easily accessible
socket. To avoid tripping hazards, please avoid using an extension cable.
To avoid damage to the radio or the mains adapter, do not use any adapter other than the adapter plug model SA-300-060 supplied.

On connecting the radio, the clock starts at
0:00 00.

Mains and battery operation

When you disconnect the radio from the supply, any settings you may have made (time, alarm, stations in memory) will be lost. If you wish to keep these settings, insert batteries (see below) before disconnecting.

Inserting batteries

Instead of using the mains adapter, you can run the radio from batteries (not supplied). You need four
1.5V mignon cells, size AA, LR6.
` Open the battery compartment on the rear of the
radio by sliding the cover downwards.
` Insert the four batteries into the compartment,
paying attention to the polarity (with the negative poles against the springs).

` Replace the cover on the battery compartment.
If the batteries are too low, this is indicated on the display by a flashing symbol.

Battery handling

If the appliance is run from the mains, remove the batteries.
When changing the batteries, change the complete
set; do not mix old and new batteries.
Batteries are special waste and must be properly disposed of.

OPERATION

Connecting earphones

On the left side of the radio, you will find the ear/ headphone socket .
` Plug in the earphones supplied or any other stereo
headphones or earphones that are fitted with a 3.5 mm jack plug.
The loudspeaker will be deactivated automatically.
WARNING! Before putting on headphones set the volume to minimum!

GENERAL FUNCTIONS

Key lock

` Press and hold down the MEMORY/Key Lock button
for about 3 seconds to prevent settings being changed if buttons are pressed unintentionally. The display will show KEY LOCK.
` Press and hold down the MEMORY/Key Lock button
again for about 3 seconds to cancel the key lock. KEY LOCK will vanish from the display.

Display lighting

` Press any button to light the display. The display will
remain lit for about 10 seconds.
If key lock is active, the display lighting can only be activated by pressing the SNOOZE/RADIO OFF button.

Support foot

` Flip out the support foot on the rear of the radio to
enable it to stand more stably.

TIME FUNCTIONS

The time functions can be set with the radio switched on or off. When first switched on, the preset time of the world receiver starts at „We

Time, date, time zone and world time

Using the MODE SET button, you can set date and time zone and select world time. When you press SET, the function to be set flashes for about 15 seconds. During this time, adjust the setting with the
DOWN buttons.

To apply a setting, just wait until the display stops flashing (the display reverts to the time indication) or

Setting the date

Press MODE SET again or twice, as the case may be.

forwards or backwards. Keep either of these buttons pressed for a few seconds to change the date in ten­day steps. The weekday indication follows automatically. The indication uses the first two letters of the English name of the day.
The built-in calendar runs from 2000 to 2099.

Setting the time zone

Press MODE SET again or three times, as the case

may be. The selected time zone flashes in the display as the abbreviation for the corresponding city (
UTC
for Munich when first switched on),
` Press UP or DOWN to change to the next/
previous time zone.

Summer time offset

While the time zone indication is still flashing, press

SNOOZE / RADIO OFF button. The summer time

Show world time

Press MODE SET again or four times, as the case

may be, to show the world time. The city abbreviation appears with the corresponding time.
` Press UP or DOWN to change to the next/
previous time zone.

Special date alarm

Press the MODE SET button a fifth time to set the special date alarm. The SDA date indication will flash in the display.
` Press UP or DOWN to set the date on which
the alarm is to sound.
` Press the SNOOZE button to ignore the year number
setting so that the alarm sounds every year.

` If the current date is the same as the SDA date, an
alarm sounds every hour from 8 o'clock on this day. In addition, the SDA indication will flash on the display.
` Turn off the alarm by pressing any button.

Select display mode

You can select which information is shown on the display when the radio is switched off.
The selected mode is indicated by a corresponding symbol on the display:
= time DATE= date CITY=world time
Select the display mode by repeatedly pressing the DOWN button in accordance with the following table:

Alarm function

The world receiver provides two alarms that can be set independently of one another,
ALARM 1 and ALARM 2.
For both, you can set:
whether the alarm should operate on every day of the
week or only from Monday to Friday,
whether you wish to be woken by the alarm tone or
the radio.

Setting the alarm time

Press ALARM 1 (ALARM 2). For about ten seconds,

Turning off the alarm function

RADIO OPERATION

Switching on / volume control

` Press the RADIO POWER ON button to switch the
radio on. In the display, followed by the current frequency and band selection.
` Adjust the volume with the VOLUME buttons:
– UP BUTTON: louder, – DOWN BUTTON: quieter.

Switching off / snooze function

` Switch the radio off by pressing the SNOOZE /
RADIO OFF button. The display will revert to the time
indication.

Sleep function

The SLEEP SET/OFF button can be used to activate the sleep function. You can set a time of up to 90 minutes in ten-minute steps, after which the radio will automatically turn itself off.
` Press SLEEP SET/OFF. The display will show ON for
about three seconds.
` Press SLEEP SET/OFF again, so long as the display
ON. The symbol for the sleep function and 90
shows (for 90 minutes) will appear.
` Press SLEEP SET/OFF again to decrease the sleep
time in ten-minute decrements.
` Either select a sleep time (the sleep symbol
remains on the display) or press SLEEP SET/OFF again until now switched off.
OFF appears on the display. The radio is
ON will appear briefly,

Station setting

` Select the required frequency band (FM, AM, LW or
SW), using the Band select button. The corresponding abbreviation will appear in the display.

RADIO OPERATION
` The UP and DOWN buttons can now be used to
set the desired frequency.
` If you keep UP or DOWN pressed for about three
seconds, the automatic station search will start.
` The search stops as soon as a station with sufficient
signal strength is found.

Antenna

FM and SW The rotatable telescopic antenna on the radio can be
used for the FM and SW bands.
` Pull the antenna out fully and arrange it for optimum
reception.
The SW Sen switch on the rear of the radio can be used to improve the reception quality for the SW band. Select LX for strong stations and RX to improve reception for week stations.
AM and LW The telescopic antenna does not work in the AM and
LW bands. In these bands, the radio uses its built-in ferrite antenna.
` Align the radio for best reception.

Memory functions

Save station

The world receiver can store 50 stations each in the FM, SW and AM bands and 10 stations in the LW band.
For the FM, SW and AM bands, the station memories are organised in 5 pages of 10 stations each. To store a station, proceed as follows:
` tune to the station that you wish to store (see above), ` press the MEMORY/KEY LOCK button, the display
will show the memory [PAGE} and station memory, [MEM],
` with the PAGE button, select a memory page (except
in LW band) and use M0-M9 to select a station memory, these two selections will be shown in the display,
` press MEMORY/KEY LOCK again to store the
station.
If the world receiver is connected to the mains adapter, the station memories are lost when the adapter plug is pulled from the socket.

Selecting a stored station

`
To select a stored station directly, press the PAGE button repeatedly until the desired memory page is shown in the display and then one of the buttons M0­M9 to select the station memory.

ADIO OPERATION

Displaying memory values

Press the MEMORY SCAN button to hear the content

of all station memories for the selected band. All stored stations will be played one after another for about five seconds.
` Press any button to stop station search.
