IncompliancewithFederalandCaliforniaemissionrequirements,an engineinformationlabelisafxedtoallMACKdieselengines.Thislabel, whichislocatedonthecylinderheadcoveratthefrontoftheengine,gives basicengineidenticationinformation(enginemodel,serialnumber,etc.), advertisedhorsepoweratratedspeed,emissionsregulationstowhichthe engineconformsandinletandexhaustvalvelashsettings.Examplesofthe 49stateEPAapproved,and50stateEPAandCaliforniaapprovedengine identicationlabelsaregivenbelow.

TheCaliforniaAirResourcesBoard(ARB)requiresthat2008modelyear vehiclesbeequippedwithengineshavingtamper-resistantsoftwarewhich limitsthetimeatwhichtheenginecanidleatspeedsabovelowidle(550–700 rpm).Atspeedsabovelowidle,andwithoutaPTOengaged,idletimewill belimitedtoveminutes,afterwhichtheenginewillrevertbacktolowidle. VehiclesequippedwithaCleanIdleengineareidentiedbyalabelwhichis afxedtotheleftfrontcornerofthehoodonconventionalmodels(CXU,CHU andGU),andthelowerportionofthedriver’ssidedooroncab-overmodels (MRUandLEU).

Theairbrakesystemwasdesignedandbuilttoconformtoallapplicable federalmotorvehiclesafetystandardsineffectatthetimeofmanufacture.
Tractorairsystemsaredesignedforoperationasatractoronly,andtruckair systemsaredesignedtobeoperatedasatruckonly .Ifatractorisgoingtobe convertedforoperationasatruck,theairbrakesystemmustberecongured tothatofatruck.Conversely,ifatruckisgoingtobeconvertedforoperation asatractor,theairbrakesystemmustbereconguredtothatofatractor. ConsultyourlocalMACKdistributorforadditionalinformation.

Parkedregenerationallowstheoperatortostartand/orstoptheregeneration manuallywhenthevehicleisparkedandtheengineisidling.Theoperatoris notiedthataregenerationisneededwhentheiconsontheDPFSmartswitch illuminate.Theoperatorshouldperformtheregenerationassoonaspossible.
PleaserefertotheinstructionsbelowonhowtousetheDPFSmartswitchfor parkedregenerations.
1.Movethevehicletoasafelocation,applytheparkbrakeandallowthe enginetoidle.
WARNING
Whenaregenerationisinprocess,thetemperatureoftheexhaustwillbe elevated.DONOTparkthevehiclewiththeexhaustoutletunderlowhanging overheadammableobjectssuchastrees,awnings,etc.,thatcouldbedamaged byelevatedexhausttemperatures.DONOTattempttoregenerateinsidea garageorenclosedareaifthetailpipeisattachedtoanexhaustventilation systemasthehosematerialmaynotberatedforthehightemperature.
2.PressandholdthetoppartoftheDPFSmartswitchmomentarilytoinitiate theregeneration.
3.Duringregeneration,theiconsontheswitchwillshutoff.TheHEST indicatorontheinstrumentclusterwilllightuptonotifyofhighexhaust temperatures.
4.Forcatalyzedexhaustaftertreatmentsystems,theenginespeedmayramp ashighas1,100rpm.Fornon-catalyzedexhaustaftertreatmentsystems,the enginewillcontinuetoidleduringtheregeneration.
5.Regenerationwilltakebetween20and30minutestocomplete.
6.Afterregenerationhascompletedandtheexhausttemperaturehas returnedtonormal,theHESTindicatorwillshutoff.
7.T ostopregeneration,presstheswitchdowntotheinhibitposition.When thebottomoftheswitchisilluminated,regenerationisstopped.Theswitch willremainlockedinthispositionandthelightwillstayilluminated.Thedriver hastheoptionofstoppingaregenerationifthevehicleisinanareawhere elevatedexhausttemperatureswillposeahazard(i.e.,tunnel,undertrees,in anareawherethereisammablematerial,etc.).

Whenregenerationisneeded,aniconatthetopoftheDPFSmartswitchwill illuminatetonotifythevehicleoperator.TheDPFSmartswitchallowsthe vehicleoperatortoeitherstoporstartregeneration.(Certainconditionsmust bemet,however,beforeregenerationcanbemanuallystarted.)
Note:Ifthevehicleisinalocationthatmaybehazardouswhenanactiveregeneration begins(i.e.,incloseproximitytoammablematerialsorgases),theregeneration shouldbestoppedbypushingtheDPFswitchtothe"StopRegeneration"position. Ifanactiveregenerationisstoppedbythevehicleoperator,itshouldbeinitiatedata latertimewhenthevehicleisinasafelocation.However,ifanactiveregenerationis stoppedtoomanytimes,thevehiclemustbetakentoaMACKservicefacility.The servicefacilitywilluseaservicetooltomanuallyinitiatetheregeneration.
WARNING
Thetemperatureoftheexhaustsystemcomponentsduringtheregeneration processcanexceed500°C(1000°F).Variousfactors(includingambient temperatureanddurationoftheregenerationprocess)determinewhenthese componentswillreturntonormaloperatingtemperatureafterregeneration hascompleted.Beextremelycarefularoundthesehotcomponents.Contact withthesecomponentscanresultinseriouspersonalinjury.

Pushdownonthefootpedallocatedattheleftkickpaneltoadjustthewheel toanypositionwithinapre-denedrange.Notethatyoumustcontinuetohold thepedaldownwhileadjusting.Whentheadjustmentiscomplete,release thepedal.
