Manage your HP ProLiant servers
View inventory data about HP ProLiant servers, blade enclosures and Virtual Connect modules
View performance and health data about HP ProLiant host servers, blade enclosures and
Virtual Connect modules
Take corrective action in response to events
Control servers using the iLO interface
Link to the iLO, iLO Remote Console, Onboard Administrator, or Virtual Connect user interfaces
for a selected host being viewed in RHEV-M
Log HP hardware events to RHEV-M
Visualize networking connections from RHEV-defined networks, through physical NIC ports
and Virtual Connect, to uplinked external switches
Generate reports of HP hardware inventory details through RHEV-M's reporting infrastructure

2 Installation and discovery

Prerequisites for installing HP Insight Control for RHEV
The following are prerequisites for installing HP Insight Control for RHEV:
RHEV-M must be installed and configured. Refer to Red Hat's documentation for installation
and configuration of RHEV-M.
The RHEV-M credentials used during configuration of RHEV-M will be needed.
The postgres password used during configuration of RHEV-M will be needed.
The RHEV-M reports package must be installed in order for the reporting functionality in HP
Insight Control for RHEV to be installed and available.

Installing and configuring HP Insight Control for RHEV

You must ensure that HP Insight Control for RHEV is installed on the (RHEV-M) management console. To install HP Insight Control for RHEV:
1. Unpack and install the HP Insight Control for RHEV packages:
[root@rhevm ~]# tar zxf hp-icrhev-x.x.x.x.tar.gz
[root@rhevm ~]# rpm -ivh hpcs-x.x.x.x-1.x86_64.rpm hpicrhev-x.x.x.x-1.x86_64.rpm
Installing and configuring HP Insight Control for RHEV 9
2. Configure HP Insight Control for RHEV by running the setup script. You will need the postgres database password and the RHEV-M credentials you entered when you ran the rhevm-setup script.
[root@rhevm ~]# /opt/hp/hpcs-x.x.x.x/hpcs_setup.py
Welcome to HP Insight Control for RHEV.....
Enter Postgres Password:
Creating database....
Enter Username with Domain name for RHEV [admin@internal]:
Password:
Configuring events....
Importing reports....
Configuring snmptrapd....
Backup copy of "snmptrapd.conf" has been renamed to
"snmptrapd-20131118_105135.conf" and placed in
"/etc/snmp/".
Starting HP Insight Control for RHEV services
NOTE: hpcs_setup.py will ensure the /opt/hp subdirectory has the appropriate
permissions (read/write/execute for owner and read/execute for group and other, i.e. rwxr-xr-x). If the subdirectory does not have the correct permissions, the setup script will ask if you want to change them:
The /opt/hp directory already exists but does not have
appropriate permissions.
HP Insight Control for RHEV requires read/write
permissions to this directory in order to function
properly.
Allow HP Insight Control for RHEV to change permissions
of this directory? [yes/no]:
Answering yes will continue the setup procedure. Answering no will abort the setup.
NOTE: Entering an incorrect Postgres password will result in the following error message:
Please confirm your database password and ensure that
"md5" authentication method is selected.
If Postgres has been configured with the ident authentication method, you must change the authentication method to md5 or trust.
NOTE: If you do not have the RHEV Reports package installed, the Importing reports step
will fail. This is a non-fatal error.
NOTE: If you do not have the net-snmp package installed, the Configuring snmptrapd
step will fail. This is a non-fatal error.
Before HP Insight Control for RHEV can display information about hosts (iLOs/servers, blade enclosures and Virtual Connect) in your environment, they must first be discovered.
NOTE: Host credentials are required in order for discovery to succeed.
10 Installation and discovery

Discovering hosts

1. Log in to the Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization Manager (RHEV-M) with a valid username and password.
2. In the RHEV-M window, select the Hosts tab.
3. In the Hosts tab, from the list of available hosts, click to select the host whose information you want to discover.
4. Click the HP Insight Control tab.
5. In the HP Insight Control for RHEV Actions toolbar, click . The Tools menu is displayed.
6. Select Discovery. The Discovery Wizard dialog box is displayed:
NOTE: Installing Single Sign-On certificates requires Administrator access to the target
devices. If you do not want to use Administrator-level access or if the target device has no free Single Sign-On slots, clear this checkbox.
Discovering hosts 11
7. Enter the hostname or IP address and your credentials for the iLO you want to discover. Click
OK.
NOTE: To discover entities, entities should have at least the following minimum versions:
iLO
Minimum version for iLO 3 is1.50 Minimum version for iLO 4 is1.20
OA
Minimum version for OA is 3.32
VC
Minimum version for VC is 3.00
NOTE: If the server is a blade server, you can enter OA and VC credentials. OA and VC
inputs are hidden for non-blade servers. If the OA or VC is already discovered, the OA or VC fields are disabled.
NOTE: If an authentication failure occurs, an error message is added to the host’s newsfeed
and global newsfeed.
NOTE: If the host's Power Management iLO data has been entered in RHEV-M, this data
(with the exception of password) will be pre-populated in the Discovery wizard.
NOTE: When discovering blade servers using the Discovery Wizard (HostsHP Insight
ControlTools MenuDiscovery), if the OA and VC credential fields are blank, the Discovery
Wizard will attempt to discover the OA and VC using the credentials entered for iLO.
