When I rolled my M-4 Sherman off the LST and onto the beach at Normandy, I thought I
was commanding the finest armored fighting vehicle in the world. We had speed,
maneuverability and reliability. We also had the ability to turn around repairs a lot faster,
since so many of our boys had been neighborhood gas station grease-monkeys back
home.
A lot of these factors were negated for both us and the Germans by the terrain and layout
of the Normandy countryside. The whole place was divided up by thick hedgerows and
sunken roads. We couldn’t traverse our turrets on the sunken roads and the Germans had
all the high roads and highways pre-sighted for their 88s. Our advantage came further
inland on open ground where we could do our song and dance on fast maneuvering. And
then, there was WP. Oh, how we did love our white phosphorous! The stuff burned like a
piece of hell and nothing could put it out. That was the most effective round we could fire
from our 75, let me tell you.

GAME OVERVIEW
WELCOME SOLDIER. OPERATION TIGER HUNT WAS DESIGNED SO YOU
COULD GET STARTED RIGHT AWAY WITHOUT NEEDING TO READ A
MANUAL. BY READING THIS QUICK OVERVIEW, HOWEVER, YOU’LL GET
AN EDGE ON THE BATTLEFIED. LEARNING TO CONTROL YOUR TANK
SHOULD BE THE FIRST THING YOU DO. THE MANEUVERABILITY OF
AMERICAN ARMOR IS CERTAINLY AN IMPORTANT FACTOR IN
ESTABLISHING ITS DOMINANCE ON THE BATTLEFIELD, AND YOU’LL NEED
ALL OF IT TO MAKE IT THROUGH THESE MISSIONS. ALWAYS KEEP ON THE
MOVE,USE THE TERRAIN TO YOUR ADVANTAGE, NEVER GIVE THEM A
SITTING TARGET. DON’T BE AFRAID OF FACING YOUR ENEMY STRAIGHT
ON.
Page 3
NOT ONLY WILL YOU GIVE THEM HALF AS MUCH TO SHOOT AT, BUT
YOU’LL HAVE AN EASIER TIME GETTING INTO A BETTER POSITION.
TAKE A LOOK AT THE INGAME SCHEMATICS OF THE UNITS YOU’LL BE
FIGHTING AGAINST. YOU’LL NOTICE THAT MOST ARE MORE VULNERABLE
ON THE SIDES AND THE REAR. YOU’LL NEED TO KNOW THIS TO MAKE IT
WITH LIMITED AMMO WHERE EVERY SHOT COUNTS.
THERE WILL BE TIMES WHEN YOU KNOW AN EMEMY IS OUT THERE, BUT
YOU CAN’T SEE THEM. MY ADVICE TO YOU IS TO FIND A WRECKED TANK
OR BUILDING TO GIVE YOU SOME COVER UNTIL YOU CAN FIND HIM.
MINES WILL KILL A TANK IMMEDIATELY, USE YOUR HIGH EXPLOSIVE
SHELLS AGAINST THEM. BETTER YET, AVOID THEM ALL TOGETHER. HIGH
EXPLOSIVE AMMO IS EFFECITVE AGAINST BUNKERS, BUILDINGS AND
VEHICLES, BUT NOT AGAINST TANKS. SAVE THE GOOD STUFF FOR TANKS.
WHEN INTELLIGENCE KNOWS WHERE THE ENEMY IS, YOU’LL SEE A RED
INDICATOR OVER THE TARGET. WHEN YOU CAN’T SEE AN INDICATOR,
KEEP AN EYE ON YOUR COMPASS IN THE UPPER LEFT.
MISSION OBJECTIVES WILL BE INDICATED BY THE OUTER TRIANGLE
ORIENT YOUR TURRET (THE INNER GREEN DOT) TO MATCH THE POSITION
AND DRIVE, YOU’LL SEE YOUR OBJECTIVE SOON ENOUGH.
WHEN YOU PICK UP SOME AIR SUPPORT, YOU’LL NOTICE AN AIRPLANE
ICON IN THE BOTTOM LEFT WITH THE NUMBER OF AIRSTRIKES YOU CAN
MAKE. SIMPLY LOOK IN THE DIRCTION YOU WANT THE STRIKE, GET
CLOSE ENDOUGH, HOLD TIGHT AND PRESS THE ‘B’ BUTTON AND GET OUT
OF THERE.THE BALLISTICS MAY VARY DEPENDING ON YOUR ELEVATION
AND RANGE TO THE TARGET. SOME TIMES YOU JUST HAVE TO SHOOT
WHEN IT FEELS RIGHT.
GOOD LUCK SOLDIER. SEE YOU IN BERLIN.
AMMO TYPES
AP = Armor piercing: most effective against armored vehicles (tanks and armored
vehicles). AP shells don’t have an explosive charge.
HE = High explosive: most effective against installations and open targets (it can be used
against vehicles but it is tot very effective against tanks with thicker armor).
PH = Phosphorous shell (incendiary): effective against most targets although the desired
effects may not be immediate. i.e.: tanks and buildings may burn, but not be entirely
destroyed.
HVAP = High velocity armor piercing shell: this most rare type of ammunition simply
increases the effective range and effectiveness of the standard AP. Better penetration of
thicker armor at longer distances. This type of ammunition can become a “life saver”
when confronted with superior German tanks such as Panthers and Tigers. This type of
specialized ammunition was not nor will be as readily available as the rest and must be
used sparingly.

TROUBLESHOOTING
The most common and prevalent errors are related to video and sound card drivers.
Operation Tiger Hunt requires DirectX® version 8.1 or later. The most common problem
people have with DirectX® games are out-of-date video and sound card drivers. If your
Page 5
video and sound card drivers are not DirectX® 8.1-certified, please download or obtain
the latest drivers from your card manufacturers. After you have updated your drivers, you
must reinstall DirectX® 8.1.
If you are having sound or video problems, you should try reinstalling DirectX® 8.1.
For diagnosing tools, open Windows® Explorer and go to the C:\Program
Files\DirectX\Setup directory. Run the program named DxDiag.exe. This will give you
detailed information for all your drivers and other DirectX® 8.1 components. This will
also help tech support if you should need to call them. If you are crashing upon exit,
particularly if you see a DDRAW error, please try to obtain the latest drivers for your
video card. More up-to-date info on DirectX® 8.1 can be found at Microsoft’s webpage,
at:
