INSTALLING THE APPLIANCE
Impor tant!
When you install the appliance, you should respect the
following safety warnings:
• Water penetrating the coee machine could cause dam-
age. Do not place the appliance near taps or sinks.
• The appliance could be damaged if the water it contains
freezes. Do not install the appliance in a room where the
temperature could drop below freezing point.
• Arrange the cord in such a way that it cannot be damaged
by sharp edges or contact with hot surfaces (e.g. electric
hot plates).
• The appliance gives o heat. After positioning the appli-
ance on the worktop, leave a space of at least 3 cm between the surfaces of the appliance and the side and rear
walls and at least 15 cm above the coee machine.
Connecting the appliance
Impor tant!
Check that the mains power supply voltage corresponds
to the value indicated on the rating plate on the bottom
of the appliance.
Plug the power cord connector into the socket at the back of the
appliance (g. 1), then plug the plug into the mains socket.
Connect the appliance to an eciently earthed and correctly
installed socket with a minimum current rating of 10A only.
If the power socket does not match the plug on the appliance,
have the socket replaced with a suitable type by a qualied
professional.
FILLING THE WATER TANK
1. Extract the water tank and ll with fresh clean water, tak-
ing care not to exceed the MAX level (g. 2).
2. Reinsert the tank (g. 3).
Important:
Never operate the appliance without water in the tank
or without the tank.
SETTING UP THE APPLIANCE
1. Attach the lter holder to the appliance. To attach correctly,
align the lter holder handle with the OPEN symbol
(g. 4), then rotate the handle to the right until it is aligned
with the CLOSE symbol (g. 5);
2. Turn on by pressing the main switch I/O on the back of
the appliance to the I position. The appliance performs a
self-diagnosis cycle, indicated by sequential ashing of the
lights;
3. At the end of the self-diagnosis cycle, the light (B4)
ashes and the other lights go o;
4. Place a container with a minimum capacity of 500 ml
under the cappuccino maker (A6) and another container
under the lter holder (g. 6);
5. Turn the steam/hot water selector (A4) to the
and deliver about 0.5 l of hot water (g. 7);
6. Turn the steam/hot water selector back to the O position
and empty the container;
7. Turn the mode selector (B8) to the position (B5) and
deliver about 0.5 l of water (g. 8);
8. Turn the mode selector back to the position and
empty the container;
9. Extract and ll the water tank, then repeat the operations
from point 4 to point 8.
Please note: we also recommend rinsing the internal
circuits through if the appliance is not used for a long period.

HOW TO MAKE ESPRESSO COFFEE USING PRE
GROUND COFFEE
1 Place the ground coee lter (C2 or C3) in the lter holder
(g. 9). Use the lter to make one coee or the
lter to make two coees;
2 To make just one coee, place one level measure of pre-
ground coee (about 7 g) in the lter (g. 10). To make two
coees, place two loosely lled measures (about 7+7 g) of
pre-ground coee in the lter. Fill the lter a little at a time
to prevent the pre-ground coee from overowing;
Important:
For correct operation, before lling with pre-ground coee,
make sure there are no coee residues left in the lter from the
last time you made coee.
3 Distribute the pre-ground coee evenly and press lightly
with the presser (g. 11).
Correct pressing of the pre-ground coee is essential to
obtain a good espresso. If you press too rmly, the coee
will be delivered slowly and will be strong. If you press
too lightly, the coee will be delivered quickly and will be
weak;
4. Remove any excess coee from the rim of the lter holder
and attach the lter holder to the appliance. To attach
correctly, align the lter holder handle with the OPEN
