CLARKE GUARANTEE
FORMING AND WELDING PLASTIC PARTS:
When bending or forming plastic parts, work slowly and with great care observing the effects of heat on such materials.
NOTE: With plastics, the temperature range between solid, pliable and liquid states is narrow. Therefore great care should be taken.
WOOD STAINING:
Wood can be stained giving a ‘rustic’ effect.
Fit the scraper nozzle to the front of the hot air gun.
Do not hold the nozzle too close to the wood as this may cause the wood to colour unevenly.
Use a fine sandpaper to remove any singed wood fibres when finished.
HEAT SHRINK SLEEVE FITTING:
Fit the reducing nozzle to the front of the hot air gun.
Select a suitable size heat shrink sleeve for the work piece.
Heat the sleeve evenly.
DEFREEZING WATER PIPES:
Fit the reflector nozzle to the front of the hot air gun.
Always heat frozen areas inwards from the edge to the centre.
Take extra care when defrosting plastic pipes.
Provide protection against heat damage to nearby paint and wall coverings where necessary.
Be aware that copper gas pipes can be difficult to distinguish from copper water pipes, always check first.
Copper pipes are soldered together, therefore should not be heated above 200°C.

GENERAL SAFETY PRECAUTIONS
WARNING:
PLEASE READ ALL INSTRUCTIONS CAREFULLY BEFORE OPERATING
As with all power tools and machinery, there are certain hazards involved with their operation and use. Exercising respect and caution will considerably lessen the risk of personal injury. However, if normal safety precautions are overlooked or ignored, personal injury to the operator or damage to property, may result.
ALWAYS Learn the tools applications, limitations and specific potential hazards peculiar to it. Read and become familiar with the entire operating manual.
ALWAYS check for damage before use , any damaged part should be checked to ensure that it will operate properly and perform it’s intended function. Check for alignment of moving parts, breakage of parts, mountings, and any other condition which may effect the machines operation. Any damage should be properly repaired or the part replaced . If in any doubt DO NOT use the machine. Consult your local dealer.
ALWAYS disconnect the tool from the power supply before servicing and when changing accessories.
ALWAYS wear safety goggles, manufactured to the latest European safety standards. Everyday glasses do not have impact resistant lenses, they are NOT safety glasses.
ALWAYS keep work area clean. Cluttered areas and benches invite accidents.
ALWAYS ensure that adequate lighting is available. A minimum intensity of 300 lux should be provided. Ensure the lighting is placed so you will not be working in your own shadow.
ALWAYS keep children away. All visitors should be kept at a safe distance from the work area, especially whilst operating the tool.
ALWAYS maintain tool in top condition. Keep tools/machines clean for best performance. Follow maintenance instructions.
ALWAYS handle with extreme care, do not carry the tool/machine by it’s electrical cable, or yank the cable to disconnect it from the power supply.
ALWAYS concentrate on the job at hand, no matter how trivial it may seem. Be aware that accidents are caused by carelessness due to familiarity.
ALWAYS wear proper apparel. Loose clothing or jewellery may get caught in moving parts. Wear protective hair covering to contain long hair.
ALWAYS keep your proper footing and balance at all times DO NOT over reach. For best footing wear rubber soled footwear. Keep floor clear of oil, scrap wood etc.
ALWAYS use recommended accessories, the use of improper accessories could be hazardous.
•ALWAYS switch the tool OFF immediately the task is completed.
•ALWAYS ensure safety devices are in place and are working correctly, if not
DO NOT use the tool until rectified.

SETUP AND OPERATION
Before starting work it is recommended that you heat a test piece to ensure you have the correct heat setting. In addition you should always take steps to protect sensitive or delicate areas where the effect of heat could cause damage (i.e. glass and plastics). Always plan ahead.
After work has been completed, switch the gun OFF, disconnect from the mains supply and allow to cool in a safe place on the support stand.
REMOVING PAINT AND DISSOLVING ADHESIVES:
Fit the scraper nozzle to the front of the gun.
With the ‘0/1/2’ switch in the ‘0’ (OFF) position plug the hot air gun into the mains supply.
When all preparations have been completed, switch the tool ON to position 1 or 2 as required. (ensuring the nozzle is pointing away from you).
Bring the nozzle of the tool to the work piece approx. 3cm from the surface. (the exact distance between the nozzle and the work piece will be dependent on the material being worked on).
Paint will rapidly become soft and blister, at which point it can be removed with the triangular shave hook. Do not allow paint to burn as this will make the removal process more difficult.
Most adhesives dissolve when heated and can then be removed, take care to ensure that parts from which glue is being removed are heat resistant.
Heating and paint removal are performed simultaneously following the gun. Clean the shave hook blade quickly if paint/glue becomes stuck to it.
Profiled parts may be cleaned with a suitable wire brush once paint is softened.
Normally only one pass is required to remove both thick and thin layers of paint.
REMOVING PAINT FROM WINDOW FRAMES:
DO NOT point the gun directly at glass, ensure it is adequately protected. A protection nozzle is provided for use when stripping window frames etc.
Fit the glass protection nozzle to the front of the heat gun and angle it so that the heat gun can be placed up against the window, with the cowl of the nozzle flat against the glass, as shown in fig.1.
It will be necessary to change the position of the protection nozzle as you work around the window pane. Ensure you wear adequate hand glove protection when doing so.
The protection nozzle must be kept in contact with the work at all times, but do not spend too much time in one area.

GENERAL SAFETY PRECAUTIONS CONTINUED
ALWAYS remove plug from the electrical outlet when adjusting, changing parts, or when working on the tool.
NEVER operate the tool when under the influence of drugs, alcohol or any medication.
ALWAYS ensure an adequate electrical supply is close at hand so that the operation is not restricted by the length of the cable.
NEVER leave the tool running unattended. Turn power OFF. Do not leave the tool until it comes to a complete stop.
NEVER force the tool, it will do a better and safer job at the rate for which it was designed.
NEVER use power tools in damp or wet locations or expose them to rain. Keep your work area well illuminated. Do NOT use in explosive atmosphere (around paint, flammable liquids etc.). Avoid dangerous environments.
DO NOT use the tool if the electrical cable, plug or motor are in poor condition.
DO NOT allow the ventilation slots in the tool to become blocked.
AVOID accidental starting, by switching off and isolating from the main electrical supply by removing the plug from the socket when not in use.
To reduce the risk of electric shock use a suitable RCD (residual current device).
