Turning the Printer On/Off

Tu r ning the printer’s power on and off is performed with the power switch on the right side of the printer. Please learn the correct procedures to avoid any unexpected trouble.

Turning On the Printer

To use the printer, turn it on by pressing the power switch to the “I” position. Printing is enabled after the printer performs a self-diagnostic test to check the status of the printer and any options installed.
Do not turn on the printer again immediately after turning off the power. Turn on the printer after at least 3 seconds have passed since turning off the power.
It may take time to bring the printer online when the power is turned on for the first time after installing the hard disk, or when there are errors found on the hard disk, as the hard disk is formatted after the power is turned on. (LBP-2810 only)
1
Press the power switch to the “I” position.
The indicators and the LCD display on the control panel are turned on. Then, the printer performs a self-diagnostic test to check the status of the printer and any options installed.
IMPORTANT
NOTE
3
If no errors are found, the
オンライン
indicator,
印刷可
indicator and the selected
paper feed indicator light up, and the message
<00 インサツ カノウ >
or
<00 LIPS> appears on the display when the printer is ready to print.
The information shown on the LCD display is as follows:

Turning Off the Printer

The printer should be turned off as described in the following procedure. The procedure for turning off the power differs depending on whether or not the hard disk has been installed. (LBP-2810 only)
If the hard disk has been installed in the printer, you should follow the designated procedure when turning off the power to protect the hard disk. (LBP-2810 only) (
P. 4)
If the printer is connected to a network, make sure that the printer is not printing data from another personal computer before turning off the power.
If the power is turned off while the
ジョブ
indicator is on, the print data remaining in the memory of the printer and the print data being spooled in the hard disk are erased (except for the data stored in the box). Press
[ リセット ]
and then select
[ハイシュツ ]
to output any important print data, or wait until printing is complete, before turning off the power. (
P. 65)
Do not turn off the power to the printer in the following situations:
- While printing.
- During the self-diagnostic test performed immediately after the power has been turned on.
- When the message that NVRAM is initializing or writing data is displayed.
- When the message that Flash Memory is initializing or deleting data is displayed. (LBP-
2810 only)
-When the message
<02 キドウ チュウ>
or
<02 キャリブレーションチュウ >
is displayed.
If the printer has the hard disk installed, make sure that the HDD indicator is not on. If the power is turned off while the HDD indicator is on (the hard disk is reading or writing data), the hard disk may be damaged and become unusable. (LBP-2810 only)

About Online and Offline
When the printer can receive data from a personal computer and is able to print the data, this is called “online”, and when the printer cannot receive data, this is called “offline.” The printer should be offline when you perform operations from the menu on the control panel.

Online

The printer must be online in order to print data received from a personal computer. Make sure that the printer is online before you send a job to the printer. If the printer is not online, bring the printer online as described in the following procedure. The printer automatically comes online when it is turned on.
1
Press [

indicator is turned on and the printer is ready for printing.
If there is an error in the printer (when the
メッセージ
indicator is on or the digit part of the message is flashing), the printer will not come online. Eliminate the cause of the error before bringing the printer online.
Do not open the cover of the printer or remove the paper cassette while printing. If the cover is opened or the paper cassette is removed, the printer will stop printing and may not be able to resume printing again.
If the printer is in sleep mode, the
オンライン
indicator goes out and only the
印刷可

is shown and the printer is not available for printing.
The printer automatically comes online after being left offline for more than five minutes. However, the printer does not come online when an error occurs (when the
メッセージ
indicator is on or the digit part of the message is flashing) or during operations such as selecting a menu function or paper feed method, or setting the paper size.

Transparencies
Use Canon Color Laser OHP film, TR-3 A4 (A4-size) with this printer.
OHP film TR-3 A4 is designed for use with LBP-2160 / 2040 / 2050 / 2200 / 2260 / 2260PS / 2260PSII / 2300 / 2360 / 2710 / 2810. Never use it for other color laser printers or monochrome printers as this may cause a malfunction or a deterioration in print quality.
Do not use transparencies not designed for this printer, such as transparencies for LBP2030 (Canon Color Laser OHP film T-H1 A4, T-H1 LTR), transparencies for CLC, or transparencies for monochrome printers (Transparency for Canon domestic LBP). This may cause a malfunction in the fixing unit inside the printer or a deterioration in print quality.
Label sheets
You can use A4-size label sheets with this printer. Check which side of the label sheets is the face-up side and then load them face up into the paper tray.
Do not use the following types of label sheets. If a sheet type that does not conform to specifications is used, this may cause hard to clear paper jams or a printer malfunction.
- Sheets with labels that are likely to peel off, or sheets on which some of the labels have been used.
- Coated sheets that can easily peel off from the backing sheet.
- Label sheets with some adhesive surfaces exposed.
Be sure to load label sheets in the portrait orientation when you load them into the paper tray and set

Envelopes
You can use Youkei No.4 and Kakukei No.2 envelopes of the size shown below with this printer.
Never use the following types of envelope. If envelopes that do not conform to specifications are used, this may cause hard to clear paper jams or a printer malfunction.
-Envelopes with fasteners or snaps.
-Envelopes with windows.
- Self-adhesive envelopes.
-Envelopes with wrinkles or creases.
-Envelopes with very irregular thickness at the folds or overlaps.
-Envelopes with irregular shapes (not rectangle).
Press the envelopes with your hands to expel any air pockets, and then press down on the edges before loading them into the paper tray.
Do not print on the back (adhesive surface) of envelopes.
When printing on envelopes, any images printed on the flap or adhesive surface on the back of the envelope may blur, soiling the trailing edge of the envelope.

Printing from the Paper Cassette

Procedures for loading paper into paper cassette 1, which is supplied with the printer, and paper cassettes 2, 3, and 4, in the optional paper feeder unit, are the same. You can load different paper sizes into each cassette and switch between these paper cassettes for paper sources automatically.
Follow the procedure described below to load paper into the paper cassette.
To avoid paper jams, note the following precautions.
- Do not use print media other than plain paper (64-105 g/m
2
), such as transparencies, label sheets or envelopes. For details about what kind of paper can be used, see “Paper Requirements,” on P. 9.
-Never use paper that has fins, or paper that is wrinkled or extremely curled.
- Refill the paper cassette with paper after the loaded paper has run out. Refilling the paper cassette with paper before paper has run out may lead to problems when feeding paper into the printer.
-You can load up to 500 sheets of plain paper (64 g/m
2
). Never stack paper in the paper
cassette higher than the limit guide. This may cause a paper feed failure.
- Do not touch the paper feed roller or black rubber part of the paper cassette. This may cause a paper feed failure.
IMPORTANT

Loading Standard-Size Paper

To load A3-, B4-, A4-, A5-, Ledger-, Legal-, Letter- and Executive-size paper in the paper cassette, follow the procedure described below.
1
If you were using the paper tray, remove any paper remaining in the tray and close it.
18
2
Make sure that the
ジジジジョョョョブブ

indicator and HDD indicator are off before you remove the cassette in which you want to load paper.
Grasp the pocket on the front of the paper cassette and pull it out until it clicks. Then remove the paper cassette from the printer, supporting the sides of the cassette with both hands as illustrated below.
When loading paper in the paper cassette, be sure to remove the paper cassette completely from the printer. If loading paper in the paper cassette while it is partially out of the printer, the paper cassette may be dropped or the printer may overbalance, this may cause personal injury.
The paper cassette is heavy, make sure that you hold it securely during removal.
Place the removed paper cassette on a sturdy and flat surface.
