Application

Introduction
The following rules apply throughout this Service Manual:
1. Each chapter contains sections explaining the purpose of specific functions and the relationship between electrical and mechanical systems with reference to the timing of operation.
In the diagrams, represents the path of mechanical drive; where a signal name accom-
panies the symbol , the arrow indicates the direction of the electric signal.
The expression "turn on the power" means flipping on the power switch, closing the front
door, and closing the delivery unit door, which results in supplying the machine with power.
2. In the digital circuits, '1'is used to indicate that the voltage level of a given signal
is "High", while '0' is used to indicate "Low".(The voltage value, however, differs from
circuit to circuit.) In addition, the asterisk (*) as in "DRMD*" indicates that the DRMD
signal goes on when '0'.
In practically all cases, the internal mechanisms of a microprocessor cannot be checked in
the field. Therefore, the operations of the microprocessors used in the machines are not
discussed: they are explained in terms of from sensors to the input of the DC controller PCB
and from the output of the DC controller PCB to the loads.
The descriptions in this Service Manual are subject to change without notice for product improvement or other purposes, and major changes will be communicated in the form of Service
Information bulletins.
All service persons are expected to have a good understanding of the contents of this Service

1.2.1 Mounting to the
Host Machine
1) Turn off the main power switch, and disconnect the
power plug.
2) Remove the rear cover [1].

If an optional Super G3 Fax Board-T1 is found, the
SDRAM and the super capacitor remain powered to
back up the image memory (even after the main power
switch has been turned off and the power plug has
been disconnected).
Be sure to disconnect the IP modem cable before re-
moving the RAM.

3) Remove the rear left cover [1].

4) If a Super G3 Fax Board-T1 is found, disconnect
the connector [1] of the IP-modem cable.
5) Remove the RAM cover [1].

6) Remove the 128MB RAM [1] in the direction of
[A].

form steps 7-1) and 7-2).

8) Disconnect the soft ID cable [1].

ble.

11) Shift the 2 locking levers [1] back to their initial
position.

13) Attach the IP cover you removed in step 10).
When attaching the IP cover, take care not to damage
the grounding plate [2] by the USB port [1].
Also, after attaching the IP cover, check to make sure
that the grounding plate is in firm contact with the
USB port.

12) Connect the connector [1] of the 32MB ROM to
the connector [2] of the IP PCB.

14) Put all the parts that you have removed back in
place.

15) Attach the LAN cover removed in step 7-1). (if a

When attaching the LAN cover, take care not to dam-
age the grounding plate [2] by the LAN port [1].
Also, after attaching the LAN cover, check to make
sure that the grounding plate is in firm contact with the
LAN port.

18) Connect the power plug, and turn on the main
power switch.
1.2.2 Checking the Con-
nection
When you have installed the kit, go through the fol-
lowing to make sure that it is properly recognized:
1) Start service mode.
User Mode key > 2 > 8 > Use Mode key
In response, [#SSSW] appears.
2) Press [ ] 5 times. When [REPORT] has ap-
peared, press [OK].
3) Press [ ] once. When [REPORT OUTPUT]
has appeared, press [OK].
4) Press [ ] 5 times. When [SPEC LIST] has ap-
peared, press [OK].
5) See that a SPEC REPORT is printed out. Check to
be sure that 'PCL' is 'ON'.

16) Mount the 256MB RAM [1].

17) Put back the parts that have been removed.
