Introduction
The following rules apply throughout this Service Manual:
1. Each chapter contains sections explaining the purpose of specific functions and the relationship between electrical and mechanical systems with reference to the timing of operation.
In the diagrams, represents the path of mechanical drive; where a signal name accom-
panies the symbol , the arrow indicates the direction of the electric signal.
The expression "turn on the power" means flipping on the power switch, closing the front
door, and closing the delivery unit door, which results in supplying the machine with power.
2. In the digital circuits, '1'is used to indicate that the voltage level of a given signal
is "High", while '0' is used to indicate "Low".(The voltage value, however, differs from
circuit to circuit.) In addition, the asterisk (*) as in "DRMD*" indicates that the DRMD
signal goes on when '0'.
In practically all cases, the internal mechanisms of a microprocessor cannot be checked in
the field. Therefore, the operations of the microprocessors used in the machines are not
discussed: they are explained in terms of from sensors to the input of the DC controller PCB
and from the output of the DC controller PCB to the loads.
The descriptions in this Service Manual are subject to change without notice for product improvement or other purposes, and major changes will be communicated in the form of Service
Information bulletins.

If the machine is already equipped with an optional Inner 2-Way Tray-E1, you may skip the steps given for the
mounting of the full state sensor unit.

1) Turn off the main power switch, and disconnect the
power plug from the power outlet.
2) Remove the machine's rear cover [1].

When mounting the LAN cover [1], be sure to take
care not to break the grounding plate [3] by the LAN
port [2]. Also, after mounting the cover, check to be
sure that the grounding plate is fully in contact with
the LAN port.

direction of the arrow.

Cover the drum unit with several sheets of copy paper
to protect it from light; then, place it in a safe place.

5) Route the harness [1] of the full state sensor unit
through the harness guide [2].

4) Mount the drum unit to the machine.
5) Turn the developing assembly locking lever coun-
terclockwise.
6) Close the left door, cassette, and front cover.
7) Connect one end of the telephone cord to the wall
modular jack and the other end to the iR machine's
modular jack (LINE).
While mounting the delivery tray, be sure to take care
not to damage the full state sensor lever [1] and the pa-
per retainer [2].

1.2.4 Mounting the Stamp

If the machine is equipped with a DADF, you will
have to fit a stamp ink cartridge.
1) Open the pickup assembly cover and the jam access
cover; then, fit the stamp in place using tweezers.
Make sure that the stamp faces upward.
Be sure to push in the stamp until a click is felt, as the
presence of a gap can cause jams.

1) Attach the Fax Approval label [1] firmly by posi-
tioning it against the indicated location of the ma-
chine's rear cover.

1.3 Checking the Opera-
tion
1.3.1 Setting the Type
1) Connect the iR machine's power plug to the power
outlet, and turn on its main power switch.
2) In service mode, check to make sure that the type
setting is set to the country or the region in which
the machine will be used; i.e.,
2-1) Start service mode as follows:
User Mode key > 2 > 8 > User Mode key
[#SSSW] appears.
2-2) Press [ ] 3 times; when [#CLEAR] ap-
pears, press [OK].
2-3) Press [ ] 4 times; when [TYPE] appears,
press [OK].
2-4) Press [ ] or [ ] to bring up the desired
country or region; then, press [OK].

to make sure that a connection is made normally. If
the attempt fails, check to make sure that the type of
the line you selected in user mode and the type of
the actual line match.
3) Type in a telephone number that you can use for
communications testing, and send a test original to
it to see that transmission is normal.
4) Have an original sent to the machine to make sure
that reception is normal.
1.3.2 Basic Settings
The following settings are a minimum set of settings
you must make to enable fax communications:
- User Telephone Number
User Mode key > [fax setup] > [basic settings] >
[set user telephone number] > user telephone num-
ber
- Telephone Line Type
User Mode key > [fax setup] > [basic settings] >
[select line type] > select line type

1.3.3 Communications
Test
Conduct a communications test to make sure that the
fax functions operate normally.
1) Press [fax] and then [on-hook] in sequence to see
that a dial tone is heard. If not, check to make sure
that the telephone cord is correctly connected to the
machine and the wall modular jack.
2) When a dial tone has been heard, type in an appro-
