Bio-Rad BioLogic Mixers User Manual

The Maximizer mixer is for use with the Maximizer valve system. The Maximizer Mixer improves gradient quality by mixing the output of the BioLogic DuoFlow workstation pumps. The mixer may be used with one of two mixer barrels, which fit between the mixer body and the mixer top and are used for higher flow rates. The mixer assembly comes pre-assembled with a 5 ml barrel extender, as shown in Figure 1. This kit includes four screws (1/4-20 x 1/2”) to be used if the 5 ml mixer barrel is removed. Refer to the following table when selecting a mixer volume.
Flow Rate Barrel Extender Mixer Capacity Assembly Screws
0.5 to 10 ml/min none 750 µl 1/4-20 x 1/2” (1.3 cm)
40 to 80 ml/min 12 ml Extender Barrel 12 ml 1/4-20 x 3 1/4” (8.2 cm)

Note: Keep this literature with your DuoFlow Instruction Manual.
I. Connecting the Mixer to the BioLogic DuoFlow system.
a. Attach the mixer to a suitable position on a vertical or horizontal bar using its rod clamp. Attach the
mixer to the rack so that the outlet port faces up.
b. Connect the mixer signal cable (mini-DIN connector) to the connector marked “Mixer” on the rear
of the Maximizer.
c. Plug the unused input port using the plug provided for this purpose.
II. Adding or removing a mixer barrel.
Note: Prior to disassembly, flush any hazardous material and then drain the mixer. Use the
information in the Table above to select the appropriate mixer volume (the barrel) and screws.

Be sure to follow these directions carefully. If the mixer is assembled incorrectly, or if an o-ring is not correctly placed in the o-ring groove, the mixer will leak.
1. Use the hex key provided (or any 3/16” hex key) to remove the four screws from the top of the mixer.
2. Remove the mixer top and turn it upside down to remove the o-ring. If the o-ring does not easily dislodge, use your fingers to remove it.
3. Refer to Figure 2 for re-assembling the mixer. Make sure that the magnetic stir bar lies flat and that the o-ring groove in either the mixer body or the mixer extender barrel faces up.
4. Place an o-ring in each o-ring groove. If you are using only the mixer body (750 µl), then only one o-ring is required. If either the standard mixer barrel or the barrel extender is used, then two o-rings are required.
