Mounting Instructions
IMPORTANT!
For vehicles equipped with an air bag, remember that an air
bag inflates with great force. Do not place objects, including
both installed or portable wireless equipment in the area over
the air bag or in the air bag deployment area. If in-vehicle
wireless equipment is improperly installed and the air bag
1 Advanced active car holder
Should you wish to operate your Nokia mobile phone using
the phone's keypad, position the active swivel holder so that
the phone display is clearly visible and the keys easy to reach
from the driver's seat. Connect the wires to the MobileHub
as shown in the illustration.
2 Mounting plate
Use the package screws supplied in the kit and the holder
mounting plate to fix the mobile phone holder in the car
interior. Select a suitable location on the dashboard or
console, making sure that the unit does not impair the driver
when operating the vehicle.
3 MobileHub Main Unit
Use the screws supplied to mount the MobileHub main unit
in a location where the cables can be easily connected.
4 Hands-free microphone
Mount the hands-free microphone approximately 12 inches
from the driver's head and position it so that it points
towards the driver's mouth. The best locations are often
near the rearview mirror or to the left of the sun visor. Make
sure to keep the microphone at least 3 feet away from the
radio loudspeakers to avoid feedback.
Take care to mount the microphone so that it is not exposed
to air streams from the vents. Do not lay the microphone
cable in the heating, ventilation, or AC system. Use the
adhesive tape supplied to affix the microphone as it
minimizes car noise and vibration being transmitted to it.
You will hear the person you are talking to on your mobile
phone over the audio system loudspeakers. When you
accept an incoming call or an outgoing call is connected, the
car radio automatically mutes the audio source (radio, CD or
DVD) and the call is switched over to the loudspeakers
5 Optional third-party GSM antenna (see your dealer)
Your MobileHub is designed to be connected to an external
GSM antenna. However, if your car is equipped with a
combination radio/GSM antenna with a frequency separating
filter, this may be used instead.
Caution: In order to comply with FCC RF exposure guidelines
for mobile transmitting devices, a minimum distance of 8
inches (20 cm) must be maintained between the antenna and
all persons.
6 Ai-Net cable
The Ai-Net cable supplied with your MobileHub will allow it to
be connected to any Ai-Net ready car radio (see Technical
Requirements).
7 System cable
The system cable links the MobileHub with your car's
electronics system and with the Alpine car radio system. See
the wiring diagram for exact instructions. Please make sure
that the PARKING BRAKE wire is connected to the emergency
brake contact or you will not be able to utilize the entire range
of features available. (Some features may only be accessed
when the car is parked and the emergency brake is on.)
Function Test
After your MobileHub has been installed, it needs to be
checked to ensure that it is working properly. Refer to your
Alpine audio system user's guide for information on specific
MobileHub features. When testing the function of the kit,
also check that it in no way impairs the driver during
operation of the vehicle.
Operation
With the MobileHub, you can choose to operate your Nokia
mobile phone using the phone's keypad or over the Alpine
car radio. All phone calls made while the mobile phone is in
its holder will only run over the hands-free microphone with
voice heard over the car radio loudspeakers.
For information on the operation of your mobile phone,
please refer to the Nokia User's Guide supplied with the
phone. When a MobileHub compatible car radio is used (like
the CDA-7998 or CDA-7897) a full range of phone control
features becomes available. See your Alpine car radio
owner's manual for further details.
