5 Operation
5.1 Getting started
The AURA handheld NIR is delivered with a deactivated battery.
Place the battery in the battery charger to activate the battery.
Please charge the battery to full capacity before first use (see “5.6 Charging the battery pack” on page 28).
You can start right away by plugging the charger cable into the socket on the backside of the AURA handheld NIR (see Fig. 3 / 4).
Insert a battery pack into the battery slot of the AURA handheld NIR until the “Release buttons” snap in (see Fig. 2 / 7).
Push the “Power ON button” (see Fig. 2 / 6). After about 30 seconds the system will display the startup screen of InProcess on the touchscreen (see Fig. 2 / 2).

5.2 Start measurement
Note
The device automatically starts an internal reference measurement after starting InProcess Additionally, a reference measurement is executed directly before and after each sample measurement, when the Start measurement button is pressed The reference measurement prior to a sample measurement has to be configured for the measurement process in the product setup
Depending on the preset measurement process, the following steps show the exemplary interaction of the user with the instrument:
1. Choose the measurement process.
2. Press the “Start measurement button” on the AURA handheld NIR.
3. Enter an identifier or a name for the measurement data.
4. Measurement results will be displayed on the screen.
Note
Measurement results might differ with the device orientation It is strongly recommend to execute the internal referencing and the measurement in the same device orientation – best choice would be referencing directly on the sample

Safety:
Do not open or dismantle batteries. Do not expose batteries to heat or fire. Avoid storage in direct sunlight. Do not short-circuit a battery. Do not store batteries haphazardly in a box or drawer where they may short-circuit each other or be short-circuited by other
metal objects.
Do not remove a battery from its original packaging until required for use. Do not subject batteries to mechanical shock. In the event of a battery leaking, do not allow the liquid to come in contact with the skin or eyes. If contact has been made,
wash the affected area with copious amounts of water and seek medical advice.
Do not use any charger other than that specifically provided for use with the equipment. See also chapter “Charging”. Observe the plus (+) and minus () marks on battery and equipment and ensure correct use. Do not mix batteries of different manufacture, capacity, size or type within a device. Keep batteries out of the reach of children. Keep batteries clean and dry. Secondary batteries need to be charged before use. Use only the battery in the application for which it was intended.
