What’s in the box
You will need to have a speaker system in place and/or other equipment ready to connect.

First, position your existing speakers around the room using the illustration below as a reference.
You can connect two FRONT HIGH

speakers instead of two SURROUND BACK speakers if you prefer.
Up to two subwoofers can be connected.


Next, connect your speakers to the AV receiver.
Match the labels for each terminal to the position of each speaker. Do not forget to connect the subwoofer cable(s) as well.

Continue by connecting your TV.

Blu-ray Disc player, PlayStation®3, or satellite tuner
To enjoy high-quality video and audio, the optimal method is to connect via a High Speed HDMI cable (not supplied).
To connect your Blu-ray Disc player, PlayStation®3, or satellite tuner, simply connect with a High Speed HDMI cable.

If your TV has an HDMI ARC jack, you do not need an optical digital cord.
If your TV has no HDMI ARC jack, you need an optical digital cord (not supplied) to enjoy TV sound through the system speakers.

AM loop antenna (aerial)
FM wire antenna (aerial)
For FM radio, connect the supplied FM wire antenna (aerial) into the FM ANTENNA jack and extend it for optimal reception.
Alternatively, connect your own external antenna (aerial).
You can also connect your iPod/ iPhone to the iPod/iPhone terminals.
To iPod, iPhone, etc.

Connect to the Internet and home network via a wireless LAN or LAN cable (not supplied).
[Network Settings] can be found in the [Settings] menu of the home menu. For further details, visit: http://support.sony-europe.com/
Connect the AC power cord (mains lead) to a wall outlet (mains).
Now you can switch on the AV receiver, TV, subwoofer and other devices.
The shape of the AC power cord (mains lead) and the AC outlet (mains), varies depending on the area.

Next, plug the supplied optimizer microphone into the AUTO CAL MIC jack.
Place it roughly where you would normally sit, and at ear level – on the back of a sofa, for instance.
Confirm active subwoofer setup.
When a subwoofer is connected, turn it on and turn up the volume prior to activating it. Turn the subwoofer’s LEVEL dial up about 1/3 of the way.

Put the batteries in the remote. Press / to turn the AV receiver on. “BD”
appears in the front panel display.
To ready the AV receiver for use, go through the on-screen [Easy Setup] using the supplied remote. This should only take a few minutes.
If the setup screen is not displayed, select the correct AV input in your TV.

Once [Easy setup is completed] appears on the screen, the AV receiver is ready to use.

If an error code or warning appears on the TV screen after Auto Calibration, look it up below. After taking the appropriate steps, perform Auto Calibration again.
Error Code 30
Headphones are connected to the PHONES jack on the receiver. Remove the headphones.
Error Code 31
No speakers are selected. Press SPEAKERS to set the speakers.
Error Code 32 Error Code 33
None of the front speakers are connected,

or only one front speaker is connected.
The optimizer microphone is not connected

properly or the cable may be damaged.
The surround left or surround right speaker

is not connected.
Surround back speakers or front high

speakers are connected even though surround speakers are not connected. Connect surround speaker(s) to the SPEAKERS SURROUND terminals.
A single surround back speaker is

connected to the SPEAKERS SURROUND BACK/BI-AMP/FRONT HIGH/FRONT B R terminal. When you connect only one surround back speaker, connect it to the SPEAKERS SURROUND BACK/BI-AMP/ FRONT HIGH/FRONT B L terminal.
The front left high or front right high

speaker is not connected.
Warning 40
The measurement process has completed with high noise level detection. Perform the measurement in a quiet environment.
Warning 41/Warning 42
The input from the optimizer microphone

is too loud.
The distance between the speakers and

the optimizer microphone is too close. Set them farther apart.
Warning 43
The distance and position of a subwoofer cannot be detected. Perform the measurement in a quiet environment.

Input buttons
Now you can select any other equipment or devices you may have.
1 Select the equipment you want, then press
The menu screen disappears and the playback screen of the external input appears. The available inputs are:

BD/DVD

GAME

SAT/CATV

VIDEO

TV

SA-CD/CD
2 Turn on the equipment and start playback.
3 Press +/– to adjust the volume.
You can also use MASTER VOLUME on the AV receiver.
4 Press SOUND FIELD +/– to enjoy surround
sound.
You can also use the A.F.D./2CH, MOVIE or MUSIC buttons on the AV receiver.
Lastly, to enjoy multi-channel surround sound, you should also set up any other devices you have connected.

This will ensure that the sound signal taken from each device is in the correct format.
Multi-channel digital audio
Check the digital audio output setting on your connected devices.
Sony Blu-ray Disc Player
Check the following: “Audio (HDMI)” is set to “Auto”. “Dolby Digital/DTS” is set to “Bitstream”. “Dolby Digital” is set to “Dolby Digital”. “DTS” is set to “DTS”.
PlayStation®3
Check that the “Audio Output Settings” in “Sound Settings” is set to “HDMI” and “Automatic” (for system software version 4.21).
