Getting Started

Safety Precautions

• Do not attempt to service this product yourself. Refer
all servicing to qualified service personnel.

• Do not expose the PCMCIA Card to moisture or
excessive heat.

• Do not attempt to open the PCMCIA Card.

• Keep the connectors of the PCMCIA Card clean.

• Insert the PCMCIA Card the correct way into the
PCMCIA slot.

• All the safety instructions in the instruction manuals
of the CMD-Z1 Mobile Telephone and your
computer also apply when the equipment is used for
data and fax calls.

• Make backup copies of all important data to protect
against its possible loss or alteration.

Compatibility

• This PCMCIA Card and its GSM connecting cable
are only compatible with the CMD-Z1 Mobile
Telephone, they do not work with other phones.

• This PCMCIA Card can be used with most personal
computers equipped with a PCMCIA slot that is a
PCMCIA Standard Release 2.0 or higher, type II or
III, also known as a PC Card. Never force the data
card into a type I PCMCIA slot.

• As PSTN connection varies in each country,
connection to the PSTN telephone socket may not be
possible with the supplied cable.

Hardware Installation

This PCMCIA Card is able to connect to two types of
telephone system; GSM network via the CMD-Z1
Mobile Telephone, as well as the PSTN (Public
Switched Telephone Network) when operating as a
standard modem.

There are therefore two possible installation
configurations :

-connection to the GSM network (A)

-connection to the PSTN (Public Switched
Telephone Network) (B)

A: Connecting to the GSM

network

1 Connect the GSM interface to the

PCMCIA card.

Only use the GSM interface provided with your
PCMCIA card to connect to the GSM network.
Using an incompatible interface could damage your
PCMCIA card.

2 Lock the GSM interface in place.

Unlock the GSM interface before attempting to
remove it from the PCMCIA card. You should not
have to pull hard on the GSM interface to remove
it.

3 Insert your PCMCIA card into an

available PCMCIA slot (type II or III).

4 Plug the GSM interface connector into

the CMD-Z1.

Note

For details about the operation of CMD-Z1, refer to
the operating instructions of CMD-Z1.
Make sure that the GSM coverage is satisfactory.

5 Make sure that the PCMCIA card is

recognised by your PC.

B: Connecting to the PSTN

(Public Switched Telephone
Network)

1 Connect the PSTN interface to the

PCMCIA card.

Only use the interface provided with your
PCMCIA card to connect to the PSTN.
Using an incompatible interface could damage
your PCMCIA card.

2 Lock the PSTN interface in place.

Unlock the PSTN interface before attempting to
remove it from the PCMCIA card. You should not
have to pull hard on the PSTN interface to remove
it.

3 Insert your PCMCIA card into an

available slot (type II or III).

4 Plug the PSTN connector into the

telephone socket.

Note

When using the PSTN Travel Cable, your communication
package will only operate correctly on a direct, analogue
telephone line, both when sending and receiving. When
connecting it to an automatic switched system (standard
or PABX), make sure your telephone line is an analogue
line. Please note that this type of system may cause
communication problems. Typical difficulties are
associated with detecting dialling tones and special
ringing tones which do not conform with the common
agreed standards.

5 Make sure that the PCMCIA card is

recognised by your PC.

Software Installation

Driver Installation on Windows 95

1 Insert the PCMCIA Card into a PC slot.
2 When prompted for a manufacturer’s

disk, insert the supplied Driver
Software disk into your disk drive.

3 Complete the installation process as

prompted by Windows 95.

Driver Installation on DOS and
Windows 3.X

Make sure your PC recognises the PCMCIA card via
PCMCIA Card Manager.
For more information about PCMCIA card drivers,
refer to your PC’s user manual. If your PC does not
recognise the PCMCIA card, follow the instruction
below.

1 Insert the supplied Driver software disk

into your disk drive.

2 At the DOS command line, type

C:/>
COPY A:CONFIG21.EXE<CR>

3 Insert the PCMCIA Card into a PC slot.
4 Start up the PCMCIA driver by typing:

CONFIG21<Enter>

IMPORTANT

If your PCMCIA card is not recognized, check

whether your portable is equipped with a memory
manager, for example EMM386. If it has, you must
insert a 4 to 32 K memory exclusion field (e.g.:
X=D000-D800) after the command EMM386.EXE in
the CONFIG.SYS file to start up the card, for
example :

DEVICE=C:\WINDOWS\EMM386.EXE NOEMS
X=D000-D800

In Windows’ SYSTEM.INI file, it is sometimes
necessary to redeclare the field in the [386Enh]
section, using the command EmmExclude=D000­D800

APPENDIX- Fax/Data Menu

CMD-Z1 has Fax/Data menu which consists of 3
configurations;

1) Speech Only

2) Speech Then Fax

3) Fax/Data Only

Incoming calls

In GSM system, an incoming call usually specifies a type of
service, so that the GSM phone which receives the incoming
call can recognise what kind of call (speech, fax or data) is
requested by the call-originating side. If the service is
supported by the GSM phone, the GSM phone rings you to
answer the call.
In such a case, your CMD-Z1 will ignore the setting of Fax/
Data menu.
However, the GSM phone may receive an incoming call which
does not specify the type of service. In such a case, a service
will be selected to establish the call by the GSM phone instead
of the call-originating side.
Your CMD-Z1 can select a service according to this Fax/Data
setting for the call as follows;

•Speech Only

Speech is selected for the incoming call.
After the call is established, speech communication will be
available.

•Speech Then Fax

“Speech Then Fax” is selected for the incoming call.
After the call is established, speech communication will be
available at first.
You can send a fax message when the PCMCIA card is
connected to your CMD-Z1 and your fax software on the PC
is activated in correct way.

•Fax/Data Only

If the PCMCIA card is connected to your CMD-Z1 and if your
terminal or fax software on the PC is activated in correct way,
the PC software will either select data or fax service.
Otherwise, speech will be selected, same as “Speech Only”.

Outgoing calls

When making a call with CMD-Z1, a service will be selected
according to the setting of Fax/Data menu.

•Speech Only

When making a call with your CMD-Z1, speech service is
selected. After the call is established, speech communication
will be available.
When making a call from a terminal or fax software on the PC
which is connected to your CMD-Z1, the software will either
select fax or data service according to its configuration.

•Speech Then Fax

When making a call with your CMD-Z1, you will be able to
talk.
After the call is established, speech communication will be
available at first.
You can send a fax message, when the PCMCIA card is
connected to your CMD-Z1 and your fax software is activated
in correct way.

When making a call from a fax software on the PC which is
connected to your CMD-Z1, you will not be able to talk. When
the call is established with speech, your CMD-Z1will
automatically change to fax communication in a few seconds.

When making a call from a terminal software on your PC, this
setting is ignored.
The data service is selected.

•Fax/Data Only

Operation is same as “Speech Only”

IMPORTANT

“Speech Then Fax” is based on a teleservice, alternate
speech/fax(TS61) on GSM Recommendation. This service
varies depending on the Network Operator.
Please check with your Network Operator if this service is
available. If this service is not supported by your Network
Operator and this option is chosen, you will not be able to
make any calls nor receive calls.

Sicherheitsmaßnahmen

• Versuchen Sie nicht, Wartungsarbeiten an diesem
Produkt selbst vorzunehmen. Überlassen Sie
Wartungsarbeiten stets nur qualifiziertem
Fachpersonal.

• Schützen Sie die PCMCIA-Karte vor Feuchtigkeit
und übermäßiger Hitze.

• Versuchen Sie nicht, die PCMCIA-Karte zu öffnen.

• Halten Sie die Anschlüsse der PCMCIA-Karte
sauber.

• Setzen Sie die PCMCIA-Karte richtigherum in den
PCMCIA-Slot ein.

• Alle Sicherheitshinweise in den Bedienungs­anleitungen zum Mobiltelefon CMD-Z1 und zum
Computer gelten auch, wenn das Gerät für Daten­und Faxübertragung verwendet wird.

• Erstellen Sie Kopien von allen wichtigen Daten, um
mögliche Verluste oder Änderungen zu vermeiden.

Kompatibilität

• Diese PCMCIA-Karte und das dazugehörige GSM­Verbindungskabel sind ausschließlich mit dem
Mobiltelefon CMD-Z1 kompatibel. Für andere
Telefone sind sie nicht geeignet.

• Diese PCMCIA-Karte kann mit den meisten PCs
verwendet werden, die mit einem PCMCIA-Slot mit
PCMCIA Standard Release 2.0 oder höher, Typ II
oder III, ausgestattet sind, auch bekannt als PC Card.
Schieben Sie die Datenkarte auf keinen Fall
gewaltsam in einen PCMCIA-Slot vom Typ I ein.

• Da sich die Anschlüsse für das öffentliche
Fernsprechnetz in den einzelnen Ländern
unterscheiden, paßt das mitgelieferte Kabel unter
Umständen nicht in die Telefonbuchse des lokalen
Fernsprechnetzes.

Hardware-Installation

Mit dieser PCMCIA-Karte können Sie eine Verbindung
zu zwei Arten von Telefonsystemen herstellen: zum
GSM-Netz über das Mobiltelefon CMD-Z1 sowie zum
öffentlichen Fernsprechnetz, wenn Sie die Karte als
Standardmodem einsetzen.

Es gibt daher zwei mögliche Installations­konfigurationen:

-Anschließen an das GSM-Netz (A)

A: Anschließen an das GSM-Netz

1 Schließen Sie die GSM-Schnittstelle an

die PCMCIA-Karte an.

Stellen Sie die Verbindung zum GSM-Netz nur
über die mit Ihrer PCMCIA-Karte gelieferte GSM­Schnittstelle her. Bei einer inkompatiblen Schnitt­stelle könnte die PCMCIA-Karte beschädigt
werden.

2 Achten Sie darauf, daß die GSM-

Schnittstelle einrastet.

Lösen Sie die Arretierung der GSM-Schnittstelle,
bevor Sie sie von der PCMCIA-Karte wieder
abnehmen. Sie sollten zum Abnehmen der GSM­Schnittstelle nicht stark ziehen müssen.

3 Setzen Sie die PCMCIA-Karte in einen

freien PCMCIA-Slot (Typ II oder III) ein.

4 Stecken Sie den GSM-

Schnittstellenanschluß in das CMD-Z1.

Hinweis

Näheres zum Betrieb des CMD-Z1 finden Sie in der
Bedienungsanleitung zum CMD-Z1.
Vergewissern Sie sich, ob das GSM-Netz
flächendeckend zur Verfügung steht.

5 Überprüfen Sie, ob die PCMCIA-Karte

von Ihrem PC erkannt wird.

B: Anschließen an das

öffentliche Fernsprechnetz

1 Schließen Sie die Schnittstelle für das

öffentliche Fernsprechnetz an die
PCMCIA-Karte an.

Stellen Sie die Verbindung zum öffentlichen
Fernsprechnetz nur über die mit Ihrer PCMCIA­Karte gelieferte Schnittstelle her.
Bei einer inkompatiblen Schnittstelle könnte die
PCMCIA-Karte beschädigt werden.

2 Achten Sie darauf, daß die Schnittstelle

für das öffentliche Fernsprechnetz
einrastet.

Lösen Sie die Arretierung der Schnittstelle, bevor
Sie sie von der PCMCIA-Karte wieder abnehmen.
Sie sollten zum Abnehmen der Schnittstelle nicht
stark ziehen müssen.

3 Setzen Sie die PCMCIA-Karte in einen

freien Slot (Typ II oder III) ein.

4 Stecken Sie den Stecker für das

öffentliche Fernsprechnetz in die
Telefonbuchse.

Hinweis

Wenn Sie das Reisekabel für das öffentliche
Fernsprechnetz verwenden, arbeitet das
Kommunikationspaket nur auf einer direkten, analogen
Telefonleitung korrekt, und zwar beim Senden und
Empfangen. Wenn Sie es an ein automatisch geschaltetes
System (Standard oder Wählnebenstellenanlage)
anschließen, muß die Telefonleitung eine analoge Leitung
sein. Beachten Sie bitte, daß es bei dieser Systemart zu
Kommunikationsproblemen kommen kann.
Schwierigkeiten treten in der Regel auf, wenn Wähltöne
und spezielle Ruftöne festgestellt werden, die nicht den
allgemein vereinbarten Standards entsprechen.

5 Überprüfen Sie, ob die PCMCIA-Karte

von Ihrem PC erkannt wird.

Software-Installation

Treiberinstallation unter
Windows 95

1 Setzen Sie die PCMCIA-Karte in einen

PC-Slot ein.

2 Wenn Sie dazu aufgefordert werden,

die Diskette des Herstellers einzulegen,
legen Sie die mitgelieferte Diskette mit
Treibersoftware in das Disketten­laufwerk ein.

3 Fahren Sie mit der Installation gemäß

den Anweisungen von Windows 95
fort.

Treiberinstallation unter DOS
und Windows 3.X

Überprüfen Sie über den PCMCIA Card Manager, ob
der PC die PCMCIA-Karte erkennt.
Weitere Informationen zu Treibern für PCMCIA­Karten finden Sie im Benutzerhandbuch zu Ihrem PC.
Wenn Ihr PC die PCMCIA-Karte nicht erkennt, gehen
Sie wie unten beschrieben vor.

1 Legen Sie die mitgelieferte Diskette mit

Treibersoftware in das
Diskettenlaufwerk ein.

2 Geben Sie in der DOS-Befehlszeile

folgendes ein:

C:/>
COPY A:CONFIG21.EXE<CR>

3 Setzen Sie die PCMCIA-Karte in einen

PCMCIA-Slot ein.

4 Starten Sie den PCMCIA-Treiber, indem

Sie folgendes eingeben:

CONFIG21<Eingabe>

WICHTIG

Wenn die PCMCIA-Karte nicht erkannt wird,

sehen Sie nach, ob Ihr tragbarer PC mit einem
Speicher-Manager, z. B. EMM386, ausgestattet ist. In
diesem Fall müssen Sie ein Speicherausschlußfeld (4
bis 32 KB), z. B. X=D000-D800, nach dem Befehl
EMM386.EXE in der Datei CONFIG.SYS definieren,
damit der PC die Karte erkennt. Beispiel:

DEVICE=C:\WINDOWS\EMM386.EXE NOEMS
X=D000-D800

In der Datei SYSTEM.INI von Windows ist es
manchmal nötig, das Feld im Abschnitt [386Enh] mit
dem Befehl EmmExclude=D000-D800 ebenfalls zu
deklarieren.

ANHANG - Menü Fax/Daten

Das CMD-Z1 verfügt über ein Fax/Daten mit 3
Optionen:

1) Nur Sprache

2) Sprache Dann Fax

3) Nur Fax/Daten

Eingehende Anrufe

Im GSM-Netz wird mit einem eingehenden Anruf in der
Regel ein Diensttyp angegeben, so daß das GSM-Telefon, das
den Anruf entgegennimmt, erkennen kann, welcher
Übertragungsdienst (Sprache, Fax oder Daten) von der
anrufenden Seite aus angefordert wird. Wenn der Dienst vom
GSM-Telefon unterstützt wird, klingelt das GSM-Telefon,
damit Sie den Anruf entgegennehmen.
In diesem Fall wird am CMD-Z1 die Einstellung im Menü
Fax/Daten ignoriert.
Am GSM-Telefon kann jedoch auch ein Anruf eingehen, bei
dem kein Diensttyp angegeben wird. In einem solchen Fall
wird vom GSM-Telefon und nicht von der anrufenden Seite
aus ein Dienst für den Anruf ausgewählt.
Am CMD-Z1 stehen folgende Optionen für die Fax/Daten für
den Anruf zur Verfügung:

•Nur Sprache

Für den eingehenden Anruf wird Sprache ausgewählt.
Wenn die Verbindung hergestellt ist, erfolgt eine
Sprachübertragung.

•Sprache Dann Fax

Für den eingehenden Anruf wird Sprache und dann Fax
ausgewählt.
Wenn die Verbindung hergestellt ist, kann zunächst die
Sprachübertragung erfolgen.
Sie können ein Fax senden, wenn die PCMCIA-Karte im
CMD-Z1 installiert ist und die Fax-Software auf dem PC
korrekt aktiviert wird.

•Nur Fax/Daten

wird, wählt die PC-Software den Daten- oder Faxdienst aus.
Andernfalls wird Sprache ausgewählt, genau wie bei „Nur
Sprache“.

Ausgehende Anrufe

Wenn Sie mit dem CMD-Z1 einen Anruf tätigen, wird gemäß
der Einstellung im Menü Fax/Daten ein Dienst ausgewählt.

•Nur Sprache

Wenn Sie einen Anruf mit dem CMD-Z1 tätigen, wird der
Sprachdienst ausgewählt. Wenn die Verbindung hergestellt
ist, erfolgt eine Sprachübertragung.
Wenn Sie einen Anruf mit einer Terminal- oder Fax-Software
auf dem PC tätigen, an den das CMD-Z1 angeschlossen ist,
wählt die Software je nach Konfiguration den Fax- oder
Datendienst aus.

•Sprache Dann Fax

Wenn Sie einen Anruf mit dem CMD-Z1 tätigen, können Sie
sprechen.
Wenn die Verbindung hergestellt ist, kann zunächst die
Sprachübertragung erfolgen.
Sie können ein Fax senden, wenn die PCMCIA-Karte im
CMD-Z1 installiert ist und die Fax-Software korrekt aktiviert
wird.

Wenn Sie einen Anruf mit einer Fax-Software auf dem PC
tätigen, an den das CMD-Z1 angeschlossen ist, können Sie
nicht sprechen. Wenn die Verbindung mit der Sprachoption
hergestellt wird, wechselt das CMD-Z1 nach einigen
Sekunden automatisch zur Faxübertragung.

Wenn Sie einen Anruf mit einer Terminal-Software auf dem
PC tätigen, wird diese Einstellung ignoriert.
Der Datendienst wird ausgewählt.

•Nur Fax/Daten

Funktioniert wie „Nur Sprache“.

WICHTIG

„Sprache Dann Fax“ basiert auf einem Telefondienst, mit
dem abwechselnd Sprache und Fax (TS61) nach GSM­Empfehlung ermöglicht wird. Dieser Dienst variiert je nach
Netzbetreiber.
Bitte erkundigen Sie sich bei Ihrem Netzbetreiber, ob
dieser Dienst zur Verfügung steht. Wenn dieser Dienst von
Ihrem Netzbetreiber nicht unterstützt wird und Sie diese
Option wählen, können Sie Anrufe weder tätigen noch
entgegennehmen.
