General2
Purpose2
This is an instruction on how to reinforce the attachment of the locking lever for the
cassette format changer "pivoting Bucky" a.k.a. "flying wing" system if its fastening gets
loose.
Explanation
The locking attachment, holding the locking lever, is fixed to the flange by means of two
Allen screws M 6 x 25 mm. On Figure 1 one of these two screws is clearly visible under
the spanner used to push away the cables obstructing the view. The other screw is in a
distance of just about 15 mm, but on this
Figure it is covered by cables. During manufacturing the thread-locker LOCTITE 270 is
applied and these two bolts are tightened with a torque of 10 Nm. The correct tightening
and fixation of these two Allen screws is essential. If they get loose despite of the above
mentioned measures, their re-tightening in the field is rather difficult. The approach with a
suitable tool is not easy, attempts can be made to use ball-headed Allen key. It is impossi
ble to engage a regular Allen key in axial direction. Realising the difficulties the factory
offers an additional reinforcement by the repair kit Material number: 64 32 939.
-
NOTE
Even if the kit 64 32 939 is going to be installed, first the described
two screws have to be removed (always keep one screw in, to
keep the lever in place). LOCTITE 270 has to be applied and the
best possible tightening has to be attempted.
(See the Work step no: 10.)

NOTE
As of August 2004 the design of the reinforcement bracket MatNo:
64 32 285 has changed. The diameter of the pre-drilled openings
has decreased from former 8 mm to actual 7 mm. At the same
time the holes aren't strictly circular anymore. They are made in a
slotted (elongated) shape so they equally fit if the distance of the
threaded holes is 55mm (as it was in Mammomat with serial num
ber lower 5000), or if their distance is 60 mm (as can be found in
Mammomat with serial numbers higher 5000).
If observing Figure 2 one can see the two Allen screws holding
the bracket for fastening the plastic covers. If performing repair
according to this instruction those two screws will have to be
removed (see work step 4). Follow the procedure of attaching the
reinforcement bracket as described further, however, always start
with attempting to fasten the two Allen screws mentioned in the
Para Explanations above.
