FOUNDATION Fieldbus Junction Box 3
About the Junction Boxes
The 1788-FBJB4R and 1788-FBJB6 junction boxes provide a simple and fault
tolerant means of connecting a FOUNDATION Fieldbus network. The
1788-FBJB4R connects to up to four field devices and has dual trunk input and
output connectors for use in redundant FOUNDATION Fieldbus
configurations. The 1788-FBJB6 has a single trunk input connector and trunk
output connector and connects to up to six field devices.
The junction box continuously monitors the bus current on each field device
port. If a field device port over-current fault is detected, current to the faulted
port is limited to a safe value. Even with one drop line shorted, all other field
devices are able to communicate.

in over-current protection. This might indicate an intermittent fault in the field
device or drop cable.
Drop Trip
If the junction box detects that there is too much current being drawn on a drop
line, it will isolate that drop and keep the rest of the bus operating. The junction
box indicates which drop is in over-current protection by setting the drop LED
to constant red. Once the short/faulty device is removed the constant red will
blink OFF-RED, indicating that there was a fault. If the problem has been
rectified press the Reset button to remove the fault indication.

Trunk Trip (1788-FBJB4R only)
If a trunk goes into over-current state, it will trip the specific trunk while keeping
the rest of the redundant bus active. The trip will remove the supply from the
over-current trunk and set the trunk LED to red. The fault latch does not
unlatch when the fault has been removed. You must reset the trunk trip by either
pressing the Reset button or setting DIP switches 3 and 4 to enable an auto-reset.
