Selecting a location for Base Unit
Consider the following before you select a location for the Base Unit:
• The Base Unit ca n be plac ed on a de sk or tabl et o p near a t el epho ne li ne jack an d a
120V AC outlet.
• The Base Unit can also be mounted on a standard AT&T or GTE wall plate using the
supplied wall-mount adapter.
• Locate th e Ba se Uni t i n a h ig h s po t th at i s ce nt ra l t o t h e a rea in whi c h t he ph on e wi l l
be used.
• Keep the Base Unit and Handset away from excessive he at or humidity.
• Keep the Base Unit and Handset away from sources of electrical noise (motors, fluorescent lighting, computers) and metal structures such as filing cabinets.
• Keep the Base Unit away from two-way radios that operate in the same frequency
range as the Superset 4090 (i.e., VHF radios.)
• Keep the antenna in the vertical position.
AC Adapters
This Base Unit and Battery Charger each require a 120V AC outlet. DO NOT use an
outlet controlled by a switch. The larger AC Adapter connects to the Base Unit; the
smaller Adapter, with the yellow ring on the connector, connects to the Battery Charger.
The AC adapters have a polarized line plug (a plug having one blade wider than the
other). This plug will fit into the the power outlet only one way. If the plug will not fit into
the outlet , try reversing the plug. If the AC Adapter cannot be plugged into the outlet,
contact an electrician about replacing the outlet.
Place the power cord so that it does not create a trip hazard, or where it could become
worn and create a fire or other electrical hazard.
CAUTION: Use only the AC adapters (MITEL part number 9132-090-805-NA for Charger adapter

suitable for the wall material on which the charging unit will
be placed.
To mount the base:
1. Insert two mounting screws 3 15/16 inches apart. Allow
about 3/16 of an inch between the wall and screw heads
for mounting the phone
2. Proceed with the installation by following steps 2 to 6 of
Standard Wall Mounting (Base).

Range
The Superset 4090 telephone is design ed to achi eve th e maximum possi ble ope rating r ange
in accordance with the highe st speci fi cati ons set forth by th e FCC. Howe ver, because the
phone uses radio fre que ncie s, the e nviron ment in w hich the it is used may limi t the r ange. Try
different locations f or the base and choose the one that gives th e best signa l to the Han dset .
Privacy
Cordless telephones are radio device s. Communication bet ween the Handset and base of the
Superset 4090 tele pho ne is accom plished by mea ns of rad io wa ves, which ar e bro adcas t
over the open airways. Because of t he in heren t ph ysical pro perties of radio waves, commun ications can be intercepted by radio recei ving devices, incl udin g ot her cordl ess tel ephone s.
Consequently , any communicat ions using the Supe rset 4090 telephone may not be pr ivate .
Radio Interference
Radio interference may occasionally produce buzzing and humming in the Handset, or
clicking nois e in th e b ase . T h is i nt erf er enc e is cau sed by a n e xte r na l so urce s uc h a s a TV,
computer, display monitor, refrigerator, vacuum cleaner, fluorescent lighting, or electrical
storm. THE TELEPHONE IS NOT DEFECTIVE. If these noises continue and are too
distracting , check for nearby elect rical de vice s that may be c ausin g the prob lem. For extra
protection against potential interf erence, avoid plugging the base into a circuit that also
powers a major appliance. Be certain the antenna is kept in the vertical position. In the
unlikely event that other voices or distrac ting transmissions are consis tently heard while
on a call, the Handset may be receiving radio signals from another s ource of i nterference.
If this type of interference persists, use the CHAN button on the Handset to change to a
different channel. Fi nally, be aware that some cordless telephones operate at frequencies
that may cause interference to nearby electrical devices. To minimize or prev ent such
interferen ce, the ba s e of t he co rdl es s t el ephon e s houl d no t b e pl ace d ne ar or on top of an
electrical device. If interference is experienced, moving the cordless telephone farther
away from the electrical device will often reduce or elimina te the interference.
More than one Cordless Telephone
T o use more than one cordless telephone in the same office or other area, they must operate
on different channels. The Superset 4090 automatically selects the clearest available channel during a call and provides sufficient channels for up to 25 simultaneous calls in any given
area. If static or noise is heard during a call, use the CHAN key to select a clearer channel.
No minimum spacing is required between Base Units located in the same area, unless the
number of units ex ceeds 15. If mor e than 15 units are in use, space th em as far apart as
possible.
Switching Base Units and Handsets
The Handsets ar e programmed to work with a specific Base Unit. You ca nnot switch to a
different Handset or Base Unit without having it reprogrammed by an authorized MITEL
technician.
