7
Warning and Safety instructions
Correct use
Oil and fat can overheat and catch fire. Do not leave the
~
appliance unattended when cooking with oil or fat.
If oil or fat does catch fire, do not attempt to put out the flames with
water. Disconnect the appliance from the mains and use a suitable
fire blanket, saucepan lid, damp towel or similar to smother the
flames.
Flames could set the grease filters of a cooker hood on fire. Do
~
not flambé under a cooker hood.
Spray canisters, aerosols and other inflammable substances can
~
ignite when heated. Therefore do not store such items or
substances in a drawer under the hob. Cutlery inserts must be
heat-resistant.
Do not heat an empty pan.
~
Do not heat up unopened tins of food on the hob, as pressure will
~
build up in the tin, causing it to explode.
Do not cover the hob, e.g. with a hob cover, a cloth or protective
~
foil. The material could catch fire, shatter or melt if the appliance is
switched on by mistake or if residual heat is still present.
When using an electrical appliance, e.g. a hand-held food
~
blender, near the appliance, ensure that the cable of the electrical
appliance cannot come into contact with the hot appliance. The
insulation on the cable could become damaged.
Plastic and aluminium foil containers melt at high temperatures.
~
Do not use plastic or aluminium foil containers on the hob.
If the appliance is installed behind a kitchen furniture door, it may
~
only be used with the furniture door open. Do not close the door
whilst the hob in use or whilst there is any residual heat present.
8
Warning and Safety instructions
The appliance gets hot when in use and remains hot for a while
~
after being switched off. There is a danger of burning until the
residual heat indicators go out.
You could burn yourself on the hot hob. Protect your hands with
~
heat-resistant pot holders or gloves when handling hot pots and
pans. Do not let them get wet or damp, as this causes heat to
transfer through the material more quickly with the risk of scalding or
burning yourself.
When the appliance is switched on either deliberately or by
~
mistake, or when there is residual heat present, there is the risk of
any metal items left on the hob heating up, with the danger of
burning.
Depending on the material, other items left on the hob could also
melt or catch fire.
Damp pan lids might adhere to the ceramic surface and be difficult
to dislodge.
Do not use the appliance as a resting place.
Switch the cooking zones off after use.
Do not allow solid or liquid sugar, or pieces of plastic or
~
aluminium foil to get onto the cooking zones when they are hot, as
they can damage the ceramic surface when it cools down. If this
should occur, switch off the appliance and scrape off all the sugar,
plastic or aluminium residues from the hob whilst still hot, using a
shielded scraper blade. Wear oven gloves.
Allow the cooking zones to cool down and then clean them with a
suitable ceramic hob cleaning agent.
Pans which boil dry can cause damage to the ceramic glass. Do
~
not leave the appliance unattended whilst it is being used.
Do not use pots or pans on the hob with bases with pronounced
~
edges or ridges. These could scratch or scour the ceramic glass
surface permanently. Only use pots and pans with smooth bases.
9
Warning and Safety instructions
Grains of salt, sugar and sand (e.g. from cleaning vegetables)
~
can cause scratches if they get under pan bases. Make sure that
the ceramic surface is clean before placing pans on it.
Even a light object could cause damage in certain
~
circumstances. Do not drop anything on the ceramic surface.
Placing hot objects on the sensors and displays could damage
~
the electronics underneath them. Do not place hot pans on the
sensors and displays.
Due to the high temperatures radiated, objects left near the
~
appliance when it is in use could catch fire. Do not use the
appliance to heat up the room.
The frame of the hob can become hot due to the influence of the
~
following factors: operating duration, high power level(s), large pans
and the number of cooking zones being used.
Aluminium pans or pans with an aluminium base can cause
~
metallic, shiny marks to appear on the ceramic surface. These
marks can be removed using a ceramic and stainless steel hob
cleaner (see "Cleaning and care").
To prevent the risk of spillages etc. burning on, remove any
~
soiling as quickly as possible and ensure that pan bases are clean,
dry and free of grease.
Cleaning and care
Do not use a steam cleaning appliance to clean this appliance.
~
The steam could reach electrical components and cause a short
circuit.
10
Caring for the environment
Disposal of the packing
material
The transport and protective packing
has been selected from materials
which are environmentally friendly for
disposal and should be recycled.
Recycling the packaging reduces the
use of raw materials in the
manufacturing process and also
reduces the amount of waste in landfill
sites. Ensure that any plastic
wrappings, bags, etc are disposed of
safely and kept out of the reach of
babies and young children. Danger of
suffocation.
Disposing of your old
appliance
Electrical and electronic appliances
often contain materials which, if
handled or disposed of incorrectly,
could be potentially hazardous to
human health and to the environment.
They are, however, essential for the
correct functioning of your appliance.
Please do not dispose of it with
household waste.
Please dispose of it at your local
community waste collection / recycling
centre or contact your dealer for
advice.
Ensure that it presents no danger to
children while being stored for
disposal.

Before using for the first time
Please stick the extra data plate for the
appliance supplied with this
documentation in the space provided in
the "After sales service, data plate,
guarantee" section of this booklet.
Cleaning for the first time
Remove any protective wrapping and
^
adhesive labels.
Before using for the first time, clean
^
the appliance with a damp cloth only
and then wipe dry
Heating up for the first time
The metal components have a
protective coating which may give off a
slight smell when heated up for the first
time. The smell and any vapours do not
indicate a faulty connection or
appliance, and they are not harmful to
health.
13
How the cooking zones work
Single circle cooking zones have one
heating element, whilst double circle
(vario) cooking zones and extended
zones have two. Depending on the mo
del, the heating elements may be
separated by an insulating ring.
Each cooking zone has overheating
protection (a temperature limiter), which
stops the ceramic surface from
becoming too hot (see "Overheating
protection").
When a power level is selected, the
heat switches on and the element can
be seen through the ceramic surface.
The temperature of the cooking zones
depends on the power level selected,
and is electronically regulated. This
controls the "timing" of a cooking zone,
switching the element on and off.

Operation
Switching on and off
The cookers units have two different
types of control dials for the cooking
zones:
Control with stop
–
Turn the control clockwise to the
^
power level required to switch it on.
Turn the control anti-clockwise to "0"
^
to switch it off.
Control without stop - can be
–
rotated 360°
Turn the control either clockwise or
^
anti-clockwise to switch the
applicable cooking zone on and off.
Do not leave the appliance
unattended whilst it is being used.
Switching the outer circle of a double
circle zone on and off
The outer circle of the double circle
zone can be switched on if a very large
pan or fish kettle is being used.
On
Residual heat indicator
When a cooking zone is switched on,
e.g. front left, the appropriate residual
heat indicator lights up when the zone
has reached a certain temperature.
The residual heat indicator will switch
off after the cooking zone has been
switched off once the temperature has
dropped to a safe level.
Do not touch the cooking zones
whilst the residual heat indicators
are still lit.
Fire hazard and danger of burning.
Do not place hot pans on or near the
residual heat indicators or on the
display. The electronic unit
underneath could get damaged.
^
Turn the cooking zone control
clockwise past "12" as far as it will
go.
^
Then turn the control anti-clockwise
back to the required setting.
Off
^
Turn the control back to the "0"
position.
When the same cooking zone is
switched on again, only the inner zone
will switch on.

Boiling large quantities of water
Bringing to the boil
These settings, which envisage approx. 4 servings, should only be taken as a
guide. With deep pans, large quantities or when cooking without the lid, a higher
setting is required. For smaller quantities, select a lower setting.
16
11-12
The best pans are those with a thick
–
base which is very slightly concave
when cold. When heated, the base
flattens to rest evenly on the hob,
optimising the conduction of the
heat.
ColdHot
Pans made of glass, ceramic or
–
stoneware are less suitable, as they
do not conduct the heat so well.
Pans
Lift pans into position on the hob.
–
Sliding them into place can cause
scuffs and scratches.
Check that the diameter of the pan
–
base is wide enough for the cooking
zone so that heat is not lost
unnecessarily. Please note that the
maximum diameter quoted by
manufacturers often refers to the
diameter of the top rim of the pot or
pan. The diameter of the base
(generally smaller) is more important.
– Aluminium pans or pans with an
aluminium base can cause metallic,
shiny marks to appear on the
ceramic surface. These marks can
be removed using a ceramic and
stainless steel hob cleaner (see
"Cleaning and care").
–
Do not use pots and pans on the
ceramic hob with bases with
pronounced edges or or ridges, e.g.
cast iron pans. These could scratch
or scour the hob surface
permanently. Only use pots and
pans with smooth bases.
Too smallSuitable
17
Tips on saving energy
Use a pan lid whenever possible to
–
minimise heat loss.
UncoveredCovered
Select a smaller pan when cooking
–
small quantities. A small pan on a
small cooking zone uses less energy
than a large, partially filled pan on a
large cooking zone.
Use as little water as possible to
–
cook with, and reduce the power
setting once the water has come to
the boil or the oil is hot enough to fry
in.
When cooking for a long time, switch
–
the cooking zone off about 5 to
10 minutes before the end of the
cooking time. In this way, use is
made of the residual heat.
Cooking times are greatly reduced
–
when using a pressure cooker.
18
Overheating protection
Each cooking zone has a safety
switch-off feature (internal temperature
limiter). This automatically switches off
the heating elements in the cooking
zone before it overheats. Once the
cooking zone has cooled down to a
safe level the heating will automatically
switch back on again.
Overheating can be caused by:
a cooking zone being switched on
–
without a pan on it
Heating up an empty pan
–
the base of a pan not sitting evenly
–
on the cooking zone
the pan not conducting heat
–
properly.
On ceramic hobs you can tell that the
overheating protection has activated
because the heating switches on and
off even when the highest setting is
selected
19
Cleaning and care
For Miele branded cleaning and
conditioning products see "Optional
accessories".
Do not use a steam cleaning
,
appliance to clean this appliance.
The steam could reach electrical
components and cause a short
circuit.
The appliance should be cleaned after
each use. Let it cool down to room
temperature before cleaning.
To avoid water marks and limescale
deposits, use a soft cloth to dry
surfaces that have been cleaned with
water.
To avoid damaging the surface of
your appliance, do not use:
washing-up liquid,
–
cleaning agents containing soda,
–
alkalines, ammonia, acids or
chlorides,
cleaning agents containing
–
descaling agents,
stain or rust removers,
–
abrasive cleaning agents, e.g.
–
powder cleaners and cream
cleaners,
– solvent-based cleaning agents,
– dishwasher cleaner,
– grill and oven cleaners,
– glass cleaning agents,
– hard, abrasive brushes or sponges,
e.g. pot scourers, brushes or
sponges which have been previously
used with abrasive cleaning agents,
20
–
melamine eraser blocks,
–
sharp, pointed objects which could
damage the seal between the
ceramic surface and the surrounding
frame, and between the frame and
the worktop.
Do not use washing-up liquid to
clean the ceramic surface.
Washing-up liquid will not remove all
soiling and deposits. It will form an
invisible coating which will cause
permanent discolouration of the
ceramic surface.
Clean the hob regularly with a
suitable ceramic hob cleaner.
Wipe all coarse soiling off using a
damp cloth. Stubborn soiling may need
to be removed with a shielded scraper
blade.
Then clean the hob with Miele ceramic
and stainless steel hob cleaner (see
"Optional accessories") applied with
kitchen paper or a clean cloth. Do not
apply cleaner whilst the hob is still hot,
as this could result in marking. Please
follow the manufacturer's instructions.
Cleaning and care
Should any sugar, plastic or
aluminium foil spill or fall onto a hot
cooking zone while it is in use, first
switch off the appliance. Then carefully
scrape off all the sugar, plastic or
aluminium residues from the hob whilst
they are still hot, using a shielded
scraper blade. Take care not to burn
yourself.
Allow the appliance to cool down, and
then clean as described above.
Finally, wipe the hob with a damp cloth,
then polish with a soft, dry cloth. Ensure
that all cleaner residues are removed.
Residues can burn onto the hob the
next time it is used, and cause damage
to the ceramic surface.
Spots caused by limescale, water and
aluminium residues (spots with a
metallic appearance) can be removed
using Miele's ceramic and stainless
steel hob cleaner.
21
Problem solving guide
With the help of the following notes, minor faults in the performance of the
appliance, some of which may result from incorrect operation can be put right
without contacting the Service Department.
Installation work and repairs to electrical appliances must only be carried
,
out by a suitably qualified and competent person in strict accordance with
current local and national safety regulations. Do not attempt to open the
casing of the appliance. Repairs and other work by unqualified persons could
be dangerous and Miele cannot be held liable for unauthorised work.
ProblemCause and solution
After switching on,
the appliance does
not heat up.
The heating element
for one of the
cooking zones
switches on and off.
The mains fuse has tripped.
^ If the fuse has blown, contact a qualified electrician or
the Miele Service department.
This is quite normal, and due to the electronic regulation of
the temperature (see "How the cooking zones work").
If the heating element switches on and off when the highest
setting has been selected, this indicates that the
overheating protection mechanism has triggered (see
"Overheating protection").

Preparing the worktop
Make the worktop cut-out according
^
to the dimensions given in the
building-in diagram. Remember to
maintain the minimum safetydistances (see "Safety instructions
for installation").
Worktops made of wood
Seal the cut surfaces with a suitable
^
heat-resistant sealant to avoid
swelling caused by moisture.
The materials used must be
heat-resistant.
Make sure that the sealant does not
come into contact with the top of the
worktop.
^
Place the spring clamps (supplied)
a on the upper edge of the cut-out.
Please refer to the relevant
building-in dimensions diagram for
the hob for the exact positioning of
the spring clamps.
^
Secure the spring clamps with the
3.5 x 25 mm screws supplied.
29
Preparing the worktop
Granite and marble worktops
You will require double-sided tape
and silicone (not supplied).
^ Position the spring clamps a, and fix
in place using heavy-duty
double-sided tape f.
Apply silicone g to the side edges
^
and the lower edges of the spring
clamps.
30
Feed the hob connection cable down
^
through the cut-out.
Connect the hob to the cooker (see
^
section "Connecting up to the
cooker).
Position the hob on the spring
^
clamps.
Using both hands, press down
^
evenly on the sides of the hob until it
clicks into position. When doing this,
make sure that the seal under the
hob sits flush with the worktop on all
sides. This is important to ensure an
effective seal all round.
Do not use sealant (e.g. silicone).
If the seal does not meet the worktop
correctly on the corners, the corner
radius (ß R4) can be carefully
scribed to suit.
Installing the hob
^ Check that the hob works.
The hob can now only be removed
with a special tool.
31
Installing the hob
Seal between the hob and the
worktop
The sealing strip under the edge of the
top part of the appliance provides a
sufficient seal for the worktop.
The appliance must not be sealed
with sealant (e.g. silicone).
This could result in damage to the
appliance or the worktop if it ever
needs to be removed for servicing.
Tiled worktop
Grout lines a and the hatched area
underneath the hob frame must be
smooth and even. If they are not, the
hob will not sit flush with the worktop
and the sealing strip underneath the
hob will not provide a good seal
between the hob and the worktop.
32
After installing the hob, you need to
make sure that the underside of the
appliance cannot be accessed or
touched.
A fascia panel and a protective shelf
must be fitted if:
– the appliance is wider than the
oven/cooker/control unit.
– the appliance and the built-under
oven/cooker/control unit are offset
from one another.
Protective shelf
A minimum distance of 55 mm is
required between the upper surface of
the worktop and the protective shelf.
A gap of 10 mm must be maintained
between the shelf and the rear wall.
33
Connecting up to the cooker unit
The cable for the appliance has plug
connectors at the end of it which must
be connected up to the cooker/control
unit.
The earth cable must also be fed into
the plug connector.
The cooker/control unit is fitted with
connector sockets. The plug
connectors and the connector sockets
are constructed in such a way that they
cannot be connected the wrong way
round. Do not attempt to force the
plugs into the wrong sockets.
The EMV earth cable - located
underneath the hob (not on every mo
del) must be fixed to the cooker/control
unit as illustrated.
-
34
Electrical connection
Please read these instructions in
