In September of 2004 Michael Geoghegan and the Marantz Professional PMD670, became pioneers of a new technology called Podcasting. Podcasting, a fusion of the words iPod (the popular portable MP3 player) and broadcasting, is an Internet based process of posting audio files of radio style shows and allowing listeners to subscribe to and receive new shows automatically as they are posted. Files can then be downloaded to an MP3 player allowing users to hear the broadcast at any time, placing the listener in complete control.
In order for Geoghegan to remain on the cutting edge of the growing phenomenon of podcasting he knew that audio quality would be the key, so he sought out the finest recording equipment. The equipment needed to be portable, dependable and produce the highest sound quality. Geoghegan knew that recording to his laptop was not the answer.
Geoghegan was introduced to the Marantz Professional PMD670 by a local retailer. He was impressed that the SolidState Recorder had the ability to record in MP3, MP2, WAV and BWF formats. Because it is portable Geoghegan can use it as his primary recorder in the studio as well as when he does field work. With over 40 Assignable Quality Settings, 1648 KHz Sample Rate Selections and 32-348 Bit Rate Selections, superior sound quality is a given.
The Marantz Professional PMD670 quickly placed Geoghegan and his production company Willnick

Geoghegan first podcast production, "Reel Reviews Films Worth Watching," was the Internet's first film review, discussion, and commentary podcast.
"My goal is to arm the listener with a good list of films to see. These consist of the regular Reel Reviews, oriented towards encouraging listeners to check out quality films they may have missed or those worthy of a second viewing. The second podcast is the Cinephile Series which takes a more indepth and scholarly look at a given film," says Geoghegan when describing the show.
Building on his enthusiasm for podcasting, Geoghegan began helping others get involved in podcasting. Geoghegan is the first podcaster to have ever been contracted by a major media and entertainment company (The Walt Disney Company) to both host and produce their first podcast, The Disneyland Podcast.
"We are constantly impressed with all the different features of the Marantz Professional PMD670. This Solid-State Recorder continues to take Reel Reviews and all of our other shows to the next level." says Geoghegan, "We are so pleased with its performance that we recently purchased the new Marantz Professional PMD660."
