Chapter 1 General information
1-1DU-25
1.1. General
This chapter begins with descriptions of the product’s profile, then explains basic considerations, and precautions to be observed when repairing, maintaining and inspecting the
duplexer. The precautions are fairly extensive; however, to prevent accidents, it is very
important that the service person read the precautions carefully, and observe them at all
times.
At the end of this chapter, specifications of the product are also provided.

1.2. Product description
The DU-25 is an auxiliary unit designed for use with the following Kyocera printer
model(s):
Ecosys FS-6700
The Ecosys FS-6700 prints at 600 dpi resolution and 20-ppm (A4) print speed. Using
the duplexer, the printer automatically prints on both sides of the paper with the size of
as large as Ledger size or A3.
Instructions covering installation and operation of the duplexer are fully detailed in the
duplexer’s User’s Manual.
1-3DU-25
1.2.1. Original packing list
When first purchased, the duplexer package contains the following items in the indicated
quantities.
The following figure shows parts and names for the exterior components.
Feed unit—This unit receives printed paper from the
printer and forward it into the duplexer components.
A face-up tray can be fit at the back of this unit for
face-up stack (receiving paper upside down).
Connector—Connects the printer
signals with the duplexer electronics
for duplex printing.
Ready indicator—Lights up
during duplex printing;
flashes when paper has
jammed inside the duplexer.
Reversing unit—The components for
paper reversing function are contained in
a drawer configuration for easy maintenance.

1.4. Paper path adaptor
The paper path adaptor PA-25 is required in order to use the duplexer. The paper path
adaptor is an optional accessory, and is sold separately from the duplexer.
The paper path adaptor PA-25 includes a roller assembly (below) and a base
plate (below). Since the paper path adaptor was designed for mutual use with
the option paper feeder (PF-25), the base plate is not used for the duplexer
DU-25. So, before proceeding remove the base plate from the paper path
adaptor.

1.4.1. Installing the duplexer to the printer
Remove the base plate from the paper path adaptor (See above.). Fit the paper path
adaptor atop the front end of the duplexer as shown below.
While holding the
adaptor in a slanted
way, insert the three
proptrusions at the
bottom of the adaptor
into the matching
holes on the duplexer.
Fix the paper path
adaptor by pulling
towards the front.
Place the printer onto the duplexer following the instructions below.
1-7DU-25
Warning—The printer is substantially heavy. Lifting the printer and placing it
onto the duplexer is a job for two people. To avoid human injury, ask for assistance from other person.
First, place the duplexer on a stable, flat surface that is firm enopugh to support the
duplexer and the printer, as well as the paper feeder if installed.
Second, push the feed unit backwards until it stops.
Minding the proper match of the connector and the positioning pins atop the duplexer,
lower the printer gently down onto the duplexer.
1-8DU-25
This completes installation of the deplxer. For additional information regarding installation, refer to the user documentation provided for the printer and duplexer.

1.5. Precautions concerning service
Only Kyocera-qualified technician should perform service on the equipment, who is familiar with fundamental safety countermeasures as dictated for all electronics technicians.
Observe the following precautions during service and maintenance of the equipment.
These are to prevent possible personal injuries to the technician and the damage to the
equipment.
1-10DU-25
1.5.1. Precautions
Always observe the following precautions when maintaining or inspecting the duplexer.
When performing any maintenance or inspection procedure, first unplug the power cord.
•
Make sure that the printer power is turned.
off before replacing circuit boards or electrical components in the duplexer.
•
To prevent electrostatic discharge damege to electrical circuit, be sure to wear an anti-
•
static band when handling the circuit boards.
Be particularly careful when reconnecting the power after having repaired or replaced a
•
component that has the potential for causing an electric shock.
If the duplexer is to be transported or stored for a lengthy period of time, the unit should
•
be packed in its original packaging. If packed in their original packing, these units can be
stacked five high for up to six months. They should not be stacked sideways or upside
down, however.
Store the duplexer in a cool, dark, dry area. Avoid storage in dusty areas.
•
Ship units out on a first in, first out basis.

1.5.2. Replacement parts
Be sure to use only Kyocera-recommended supplies and components. Kyocera assume no
liability in the event of damage resulting from the use of unauthorizied components.
For details on parts including ordering information, refer to the DU-25 Parts Catalogue.

Chapter 2 Disassembly
2-1DU-25
2.1.Introduction
This chapter explains on the subject of disassembling the duplexer, showing pictures,
required to replace parts in the duplexer.
Note that the duplexer requires no lubrication at any of its parts.
2-2DU-25
2.2.Disassembly
This section provides the procedures for disasembly of the main components of the
duplexer. You will also find the exploded diagrams in the parts catalogue helpful for this
purpose.
Before proceeding with disassembly, be sure to read the notes below:
Before removing the duplexer from the printer, be sure to turn off printer
power.
Be sure to use the correct screws when installing a component. Using incorrect
screws can result in the threads of the screws being stripped, which may lead
in turn to other problems. Frequent insertion and removal of selftapping
screws can cause damage to screw holes. Do no t t i ghten sc rews wit h an excessive torque (force).
When removing or installing circuit boards (PWB), wear a ground wrist strap to
protect against damage due to discharge of stacic electricity.
Gently lift the printer so that it is separate from the duplex er.
Warning—The printer is heavy: Be sure t o ask other persons for assistance.
