2 Hinweise für den sicheren Gebrauch

Dieses Gerät entspricht der Richtlinie für elektromagnetische Verträglichkeit 89/336 / EWG und der Niederspannungsrichtlinie 73/ 23/ EWG.

BDas Gerät wird mit lebensgefährlicher Netzspannung (230 V~) versorgt. Nehmen Sie deshalb nie selbst Eingriffe im Gerät vor. Durch unsachgemäßes Vorgehen besteht die Gefahr eines elektrischen Schlages. Außerdem erlischt beim Öffnen des Gerätes jeglicher Garantieanspruch.

Vorsicht! Im Betrieb liegt an den Lautsprecheranschlüssen (7 + 8) berührungsgefährliche Spannung an.

Alle Anschlüsse nur bei ausgeschaltetem Gerät vornehmen bzw. verändern.

Beachten Sie auch unbedingt die folgenden Punkte:

●Verwenden Sie das Gerät nur im Innenbereich. Schützen Sie es vor Tropfund Spritzwasser, hoher Luftfeuchtigkeit und Hitze (zulässiger Einsatztemperaturbereich 0 – 40 °C).

●Stellen Sie keine mit Flüssigkeit gefüllten Gefäße, z. B. Trinkgläser, auf das Gerät.

●Die in dem Gerät entstehende Wärme muss durch Luftzirkulation abgegeben werden. Decken sie die Lüftungsschlitze nicht ab.

●Stecken Sie nichts durch die Lüftungsschlitze! Dabei kann es zu einem elektrischen Schlag kommen.

●Nehmen Sie das Gerät nicht in Betrieb bzw. ziehen Sie sofort den Netzstecker aus der Steckdose, wenn:

1. sichtbare Schäden am Gerät oder an der Netzanschlussleitung vorhanden sind,

2.nach einem Sturz oder Ähnlichem der Verdacht auf einen Defekt besteht,

3.Funktionsstörungen auftreten.

Lassen Sie das Gerät in jedem Fall in einer Fachwerkstatt reparieren.

●Eine beschädigte Netzanschlussleitung darf nur durch den Hersteller oder durch eine autorisierte Fachwerkstatt ersetzt werden.

●Ziehen Sie den Netzstecker nie an der Zuleitung aus der Steckdose, immer am Stecker anfassen.

3 Einsatzmöglichkeiten

Dieser Stereo-Verstärker mit einer Spitzenleistung von 500 W ist speziell für den Einsatz auf der Bühne und in der Disco konzipiert. Umfangreiche Schutzschaltungen schützen den Verstärker und die angeschlossenen Lautsprecher.

4 Aufstellmöglichkeiten

Der Verstärker ist für den Einschub in ein Rack (482 mm/19") vorgesehen, kann aber auch als Tischgerät verwendet werden. In jedem Fall muss Luft ungehindert durch alle Lüftungsschlitze strömen können, damit eine ausreichende Kühlung gewährleistet ist.

4.1 Rackeinbau

Für die Rackmontage werden 2 HE (Höheneinheiten) = 89 mm benötigt. Dabei sollte jedoch oberund unterhalb des Verstärkers zusätzlich Platz frei bleiben, damit eine ausreichende Belüftung sichergestellt ist.

2 Safety Notes

This unit corresponds to the directive for electromagnetic compatibility 89/336/EEC and to the low voltage directive 73/23/EEC.

BThis unit uses hazardous mains voltage (230 V~). To prevent a shock hazard, do not open the cabinet. Leave servicing to authorized, skilled personnel only. Furthermore, any guarantee claim expires if the unit has been opened.

Caution! There is a hazard of contact at the speaker connections (7 + 8) with a dangerous voltage during operation.

All connections must only be carried out or changed with the unit switched off.

Also observe the following items in any case:

●The unit is suitable for indoor use only. Protect it against dripping water and splash water, high humidity, and heat (admissible ambient temperature range 0 – 40 °C).

●Do not place any vessels filled with liquid, e. g. drinking glasses, on the unit.

●The heat generated in the unit has to be dissipated by air circulation. Therefore, the air vents of the cabinet must not be covered.

●Do not insert anything into the air vents! This can result in an electric shock.

●Do not take the unit into operation or immediately disconnect the mains plug from the mains socket if:

1.damage at the unit or mains cable can be seen,

2.a defect might have occurred after a drop or similar accident,

3.there are malfunctions.

The unit must in any case be repaired by authorized, skilled personnel.

●A damaged mains cable must only be replaced by the manufacturer or authorized, skilled personnel.

●Never pull the mains plug out of the mains socket by means of the mains cable, always seize the plug.

●If the unit is used for purposes other than originally intended, if it is not correctly connected or operated, or not repaired in an expert way, there is no guarantee for the unit and no liability for resulting injury to persons or resulting material damage.

●For cleaning only use a dry, soft cloth, by no means chemicals or water.

●If the unit is to be put out of operation definitively, take it to a local recycling plant for disposal which is not harmful to the environment.

The wires in this mains lead are coloured in accordance with the following code:

green/yellow = earth blue = neutral brown = live

As the colours of the wires in the mains lead of this appliance may not correspond with the coloured markings identifying the terminals in your plug, proceed as follows:

1.The wire which is coloured green and yellow must be connected to the terminal in the plug which is marked with the letter E or by the earth symbol , or coloured green or green and yellow.

2.The wire which is coloured blue must be connected to the terminal which is marked with the letter N or coloured black.

3.The wire which is coloured brown must be connected to the terminal which is marked with the letter L or coloured red.

Warning - This appliance must be earthed.

Damit das Rack nicht kopflastig wird, muss der Verstärker im unteren Bereich des Racks eingeschoben werden. Für eine sichere Befestigung reicht die Frontplatte allein nicht aus. Zusätzlich müssen Seitenschienen oder eine Bodenplatte das Gerät halten.

5 Verstärker anschließen

Alle Anschlüsse dürfen nur bei ausgeschaltetem Gerät hergestellt bzw. verändert werden!

5.1 Eingang

An eines der Buchsenpaare im Anschlussfeld INPUT [6,3-mm-Klinke (5), Cinch (6) oder XLR (12)] den Ausgang eines Vorverstärkers oder eines Mischpults anschließen. Beim Brückenbetrieb nur den jeweils linken Kanal (LEFT) anschließen. Die symmetrischen Eingänge XLR oder Klinke sollten bevorzugt verwendet werden, weil eine symmetrische Signalübertragung die beste Störunterdrückung, besonders bei langen Verbindungskabeln, bietet. Das Eingangssignal sollte Line-Pegel aufweisen.

5.2 Lautsprecher

Der Verstärker kann im Stereobetrieb zwei Lautsprecher bzw. zwei Lautsprechergruppen betreiben. Zur Bereitstellung der doppelten Ausgangsleistung lässt er sich auf Brückenbetrieb umschalten. Der Verstärker arbeitet dann als 1-Kanal-Verstärker, gibt jedoch 400 W Sinus an einen 8-Ω-Lautsprecher bzw. an eine 8-Ω-Lautsprechergruppe ab.

Der Lautsprecheranschluss erfolgt über Spea- kon-Buchsen. Zum Anschluss den Speakon-Stecker in die entsprechende Buchse (siehe Kap. 5.2.1 oder 5.2.2) stecken und nach rechts drehen, bis er einrastet. Zum Herausziehen den Sicherungsriegel am Stecker nach hinten schieben und den Stecker nach links drehen.

5.2.1 Stereobetrieb

Die größte Ausgangsleistung im Stereobetrieb wird beim Anschluss von 4-Ω-Lautsprechern erreicht. Es können jedoch auch 8-Ω-Lautsprecher angeschlossen werden, wobei sich die Ausgangsleistung aber

etwas verringert. Die Lautsprecher müssen mit mindestens folgender Sinusleistung belastbar sein:

4-Ω-Lautsprecher: 200 W

8-Ω-Lautsprecher: 150 W

Für den Stereobetrieb die beiden Buchsen RIGHT und LEFT (7) im Anschlussfeld OUTPUT verwenden und den Funktionsschalter (13) auf der Geräterückseite in die Position STEREO schieben.

Die Anschlussmöglichkeiten für mehrere Lautsprecher an einen Kanal sind in den Abb. 4 – 6 dargestellt. Beim Zusammenschalten von mehreren Lautsprechern ist besonders auf die richtige Verbindung der Plusund Minusanschlüsse zu achten und darauf, dass die Gesamtimpedanz mindestens 4 Ω beträgt.

5.2.2 Brückenbetrieb

Beim Brückenbetrieb muss die Impedanz des Lautsprechers bzw. die Gesamtimpedanz einer Lautsprechergruppe mindestens 8 Ω und die Belastbarkeit mindestens 400 W Sinus betragen. Für den Anschluss die Buchse BRIDGED (8) im Anschlussfeld OUTPUT verwenden und den Funktionsschalter (13) auf der Geräterückseite in die Position BRIDGED schieben.

Die Anschlussmöglichkeiten für mehrere Lautsprecher im Brückenbetrieb sind in den Abb. 4 – 6 dargestellt. Beim Zusammenschalten von mehreren Lautsprechern ist besonders auf die richtige Verbindung der Plusund Minusanschlüsse zu achten und darauf, dass die Gesamtimpedanz mindestens 8 Ω beträgt.

5.3 Netzanschluss

Zum Schluss den Verstärker an eine Steckdose (230 V~/50 Hz) anschließen. Vor dem ersten Einschalten die Regler LEFT CH (2) und RIGHT CH (3) ganz nach links auf Null drehen.

6 Bedienung

6.1 Ein-/Ausschalten

Zur Vermeidung von Schaltgeräuschen den Verstärker in einer Audio-Anlage immer nach allen anderen Geräten einschalten und ihn nach dem Betrieb als erstes Gerät wieder ausschalten. Nach dem Einschalten leuchtet für ca. 3 Sekunden die LED PROTECT (1). In dieser Zeit ist die Einschaltverzögerung zum Schutz der Lautsprecher aktiviert.

Als Betriebsanzeige leuchtet der Ein-/Ausschal- ter POWER (4) und je nach gewähltem Betriebsmodus [mit dem Schalter (13)] die LED STEREO bzw. BRIDGED (1).

6.2 Pegel einstellen

Bei Brückenbetrieb den rechten Regler RIGHT CH

(3) ganz nach links auf Null drehen und nur mit dem linken Regler LEFT CH (2) die Lautstärke einstellen. Den linken Regler bzw. bei Stereobetrieb beide Regler nur so weit wie notwendig aufdrehen, bis die maximal gewünschte Lautstärke erreicht ist. Die roten LEDs CLIP L und CLIP R (1) zeigen Übersteuerungen des Verstärkers an. Die Regler dann etwas zurückdrehen.

Vorsicht! Stellen Sie die Lautstärke am Verstärker nie sehr hoch ein. Hohe Lautstärken können auf Dauer das Gehör schädigen! Das menschliche Ohr gewöhnt sich an große Lautstärken und empfindet sie nach einiger Zeit als nicht mehr so hoch. Darum eine hohe Lautstärke nach der Gewöhnung nicht weiter erhöhen.

6.3 Lautstärkebegrenzer (Limiter)

Der Verstärker ist mit einem Limiter ausgestattet, der dafür sorgt, dass beim Aufdrehen der Pegelregler LEFT CH (2) und RIGHT CH (3) die Lautstärke nach dem Erreichen des maximalen, unverzerrten Pegels nicht weiter ansteigt. Dadurch werden Verzerrungen bei hohen Lautstärken vermieden und die angeschlossenen Lautsprecher geschützt.

3 Applications

This stereo amplifier with a music power of 500 W is especially designed for stage and the disco applications. Extensive protective circuits protect the amplifier as well as the speakers connected.

4 Installation

The amplifier is designed to be mounted into a rack (482 mm/19"), however, it can also be used as a table top unit. In any case air must flow through all air vents without obstruction so that a sufficient cooling is ensured.

4.1 Rack mounting

For rack mounting 2 rack spaces (= 89 mm) are required. However, additional space should remain above and below the amplifier to ensure a sufficient ventilation.

To prevent the rack from becoming top-loaded, the amplifier has to be mounted in the lower part of the rack. The front plate is not sufficient enough for a secure fixing. The amplifier has to be supported additionally by side rails or a bottom carrier plate.

5 Connecting the Amplifier

All connections have to be made or changed only if the amplifier is switched off!

5.1 Input

Connect the output of a preamplifier or a mixer to one of the jack pairs on the rear panel INPUT [6.3 mm jack (5), phono jack (6), or XLR (12)]. In bridge operation connect the LEFT channel only. The balanced inputs XLR or the 6.3 mm jack should be used preferentially, as a balanced signal transmission ensures the best noise suppression, especially when long connection cables are used. The input signal should have line level.

5.2 Speakers

During stereo operation the amplifier can operate two speakers or two speaker groups. It can be switched

over to bridge operation to supply the double output power. Then the amplifier operates as 1-channel amplifier. However, it supplies 400 WRMS to an 8 Ω speaker or to an 8 Ω speaker group.

The speaker has to be connected via the Speakon jacks. Connect the SPEAKON plug to the corresponding jack (see chapter 5.2.1 or 5.2.2) and turn it to the right until it locks into place. For pulling out, move the safety bar on the plug backwards and turn the plug to the left.

5.2.1 Stereo operation

The highest output power during stereo operation is achieved by connecting 4 Ω speakers. However, it is also possible to connect 8 Ω speakers whereby the output power will slightly be reduced. The speakers must have a power capability of at least:

4 Ω speaker: 200 WRMS

8 Ω speaker: 150 WRMS

Use both jacks RIGHT and LEFT (7) on the rear panel OUTPUT for stereo operation and set the selector switch (13) on the rear panel of the amplifier to position STEREO.

Examples for connection of several speakers to a channel are shown in figures 4 – 6. When interconnecting several speakers, the correct connection of the plus and minus connections must be ensured. Furthermore, the total impedance must be at least 4 Ω.

5.2.2 Bridge operation

In bridge operation the impedance of a speaker or the total impedance of a speaker group must be at least 8 Ω and the power capability must be at least 400 WRMS. For connection use the jack BRIDGED

(8) on the rear panel OUTPUT and set the selector switch (13) on the rear panel of the amplifier to position BRIDGED.

Examples for connection of several speakers in bridge operation are shown in figures 4 – 6. When interconnecting several speakers, the correct connection of the plus and minus connections must be ensured. Furthermore, the total impedance must be at least 8 Ω.

5.3 Mains connection

Finally connect the amplifier to a mains socket (230 V~/50 Hz). Turn the controls LEFT CH (2) and RIGHT CH (3) fully counterclockwise to zero before switching on the amplifier for the first time.

6 Operation

6.1 Switching on/off

To avoid switching noise, always switch on the amplifier in an audio system after all other units have been switched on and switch it off as the first unit after operation. The PROTECT LED (1) lights for approx. 3 seconds after switching on. During this time the switch-on delay is activated to protect the speakers.

The POWER switch (4) and, according to the selected operating mode [with the selector switch (13)], the LED STEREO or BRIDGED (1) lights up if the amplifier is switched on.

6.2 Adjusting the level

In bridge operation turn the control RIGHT CH (3) fully counterclockwise to zero and adjust the volume by means of the control LEFT CH (2) only. Turn the left control or, in stereo operation both controls, only as far as possible until the max. desired volume is reached. The red LEDs CLIP L and CLIP R (1) display overload of the amplifier. Then slightly turn back the controls.

Caution! Never adjust the volume on the amplifier very high. Permanent high volumes may damage your hearing! The human ear will get accustomed to high volumes which do not seem to be that high after some time. Therefore, do not further increase a high volume after getting used to it.

6.3 Limiter

The amplifier is equipped with a limiter to ensure that, when opening the level controls LEFT CH (2) and RIGHT CH (3), the volume will not further increase after it has reached the maximum un-

	CH	6.3.1 Limiter modifizieren

		1) Den Gehäusedeckel abschrauben.
		2) Zum Anpassen des Limiters an die Lautsprecher-
		impedanz auf der Limiter-Leiterplatte die beiden
		Steckbrücken J1 und J2 entsprechend umste-
		cken (Abb. 8).
		3) Zum Deaktivieren des Limiters die beiden Steck-
		brücken J3 und J4 entsprechend umstecken.
		4) Den Gehäusedeckel wieder festschrauben.
		6.4 Groundlift-Schalter
		Ist beim Geräteaufbau eine Masseschleife entstan-
		den (z. B. vom Verstärkergehäuse über das Rack zu
		einem anderen Gerätegehäuse), tritt ein Brummen
		auf (z. B. bei leisen Musikpassagen). Diese Masse-
		schleife lässt sich mit dem Groundlift-Schalter (14)
		unterbrechen. Dazu den Schalter in die Position
		LIFT schieben. Das Brummen sollte aufhören.
		Anderseits ist der Verstärker nicht gegen elektri-
		sche Störfelder abgeschirmt, wenn das Gehäuse
		nicht an Masse liegt. In diesem Fall den Groundlift-
		Schalter in die Position GND schieben. Im Zweifels-
		fall den Schalter wechselweise schalten, um die
		optimale Einstellung zu finden.

7 Schutzschaltung

Die Schutzschaltung verhindert Beschädigungen der Lautsprecher und des Verstärkers. Ist sie aktiviert, sind die Lautsprecher elektrisch vom Verstärker getrennt und die rote LED PROTECT (1) leuchtet:

1.ca. 3 Sekunden lang nach dem Einschalten (Einschaltverzögerung)

2.wenn an einem Lautsprecherausgang (7 oder 8) ein Kurzschluss aufgetreten ist

3.wenn an einem Lautsprecherausgang eine Gleichspannung anliegt

4.wenn beide Kanäle überhitzt sind (LED OVERHEAT leuchtet zusätzlich)

Leuchtet die rote LED PROTECT während des Betriebs auf oder erlischt sie nicht nach dem Einschalten, muss der Verstärker ausgeschaltet und die Fehlerursache behoben werden.

Bei einer Überhitzung den Verstärker ausschalten und ihn abkühlen lassen.

Hinweis: Ist nur ein Kanal überhitzt, leuchtet nur die LED OVERHEAT und nicht zusätzlich die LED PROTECT. Der andere Kanal arbeitet weiterhin.

Zum weiteren Betrieb muss die Ausgangsleistung reduziert [Regler LEFT CH (2) und/oder RIGHT CH

(3) zurückdrehen] oder der Verstärker besser belüftet werden (z. B. eine Lüftereinheit in das Rack einsetzen).

distorted level. This will prevent distortions at high volume and protect the connected speakers.

The limiter is factory-set to the operation of 8 Ω speakers. If required, it can be readjusted to 4 Ω speakers or be deactivated.

6.3.1 Modifying the limiter

Caution! The modification must be performed by qualified, skilled personnel only. As the unit must be opened for the modification, always make sure to disconnect the mains plug from the socket before opening the unit, otherwise there will be an electric shock hazard!

1)Unscrew the housing cover.

2)To match the limiter to the speaker impedance, rearrange the two jumpers J1 and J2 on the limiter PCB accordingly (fig. 8).

3)To deactivate the limiter, rearrange the two jumpers J3 and J4 accordingly.

4)Retighten the screws of the housing cover.

6.4 Groundlift switch

If a ground loop has occurred when setting up the units (e. g. from the amplifier’s housing via the rack to another unit housing), a humming is caused (e. g. in pieces of low-volume music). This ground loop can be interrupted by means of the groundlift switch (14). Set the switch to position LIFT. Then the humming should stop.

On the other hand, the amplifier is not shielded against electrical noise fields if the housing is not connected to ground. In this case set the groundlift switch to position GND. In case of doubt turn the switch alternately to get an optimum adjustment.

7 Protective Circuit

The protective circuit prevents the speakers and the amplifier from being damaged. If activated, the speakers are electrically separated from the amplifier and the red LED PROTECT (1) lights:

1.for approx. 3 seconds after switching on (switchon delay)

2.in case of a short-circuit at a speaker output (7 or 8)

3.in case of a DC voltage at a speaker output

4.in case of an overheating of both channels (in addition the LED OVERHEAT lights up)

If the red LED PROTECT lights up during operation or if it does not extinguish after switching on, the amplifier has to be switched off and the cause of the fault has to be removed.

Switch off the amplifier in case of overheating and let it cool down.

Note: If only one channel is overheated, the LED OVERHEAT lights. The LED PROTECT does not light additionally. The other channel continues to operate.

For further operation the output power has to be reduced [turn back the LEFT control (2) and/or the RIGHT control (3)] or the amplifier has to be better ventilated (mount e. g. a ventilating unit into the rack).
