The3300XL8mm Proximity TransducerSystem consists of:

Thesystem provides anoutput voltagethat is directly proportional tothe distancebetweentheprobetipandtheobservedconductivesurface andcanmeasurebothstatic (position)anddynamic (vibration)values. Thesystem’s primary applications arevibrationandposition measurements onfluid-film bearingmachines, as well as Keyphasor referenceandspeedmeasurements3.
The3300XL8mm system delivers themost advancedperformancein oureddy current proximity transducersystems. Thestandard3300XL 8mm 5-metersystem alsofully complies withtheAmericanPetroleum Institute’s (API)670Standard(4thEdition)formechanical configuration, linearrange, accuracy, andtemperaturestability. All 3300XL8mm proximity transducersystems providethis level of performanceand support completeinterchangeability of probes, extensioncables, and Proximitorsensors, eliminatingtheneedtomatchorbenchcalibrate individual components.
Each3300XL8mm TransducerSystem component is backward compatibleandinterchangeable4 withothernon-XL3300series 5mm and8mm transducersystem components5. This compatibility includes the33005mm probe, forapplications inwhichan8mm probeis too largefortheavailablemountingspace6,7.
Proximitor Sensor
The3300XLProximitorSensorincorporates numerous improvements overprevious designs. Its physical packagingallows youtouseit in high-density DIN-rail installations. Youcanalsomount thesensorina traditional panel mount configuration, whereit shares anidentical 4-hole mounting“footprint”witholderProximitorSensordesigns. The mountingbaseforeitheroptionprovides electrical isolationand

eliminates theneedforseparateisolatorplates. The 3300XLProximitorSensoris highly immunetoradio frequency interference, allowingyoutoinstall it in fiberglass housings without adverseeffects from nearby radiofrequency signals. The3300XL ProximitorSensor’s improvedRFI/EMI immunity satisfies EuropeanCE mark approvals without requiringspecial shieldedconduit ormetallic housings, resultinginlowerinstallationcosts andcomplexity.
The3300XL’s SpringLoc terminal strips requireno special installationtools andfacilitatefaster, more robust fieldwiringconnections by eliminatingscrewtypeclampingmechanisms that canloosen.
Proximity Probe and Extension Cable
The3300XLprobeandextensioncablealsoreflect improvements overprevious designs. A patented TipLoc moldingmethodprovides amorerobust bond betweentheprobetipandtheprobebody. Theprobe’s cableincorporates apatentedCableLoc designthat provides 330N (75lbf)pull strengthtomoresecurely attachtheprobecableandprobetip.
Youcanalsoorder3300XL8mm probes andextension cables withanoptional FluidLoc cableoption. This optionprevents oil andotherliquids from leakingout of themachinethroughthecable’s interior.
Connectors
The3300XLprobe, extensioncable, andProximitor sensorhavecorrosion-resistant, gold-platedClickLoc connectors. Theseconnectors requireonly finger-tight torque(theconnectors will "click" whentight), andthe specially-engineeredlockingmechanism prevents the connectors from loosening. Theseconnectors require nospecial tools forinstallationorremoval.
Youcanorderthe3300XL8mm probes andextension cables withconnectorprotectors already installed. We canalsosupply connectorprotectors separately for fieldinstallations (suchas whenanapplicationmust runthecablethroughrestrictiveconduit). We recommendconnectorprotectors forall installations to provideincreasedenvironmental protection8.
Extended Temperature Range
Applications
Anextendedtemperaturerange(ETR)probeandETR extensioncableareavailableforapplications inwhich eithertheprobeleadorextensioncablemay exceedthe
standard177˚C (350˚F)temperaturespecification. The ETR probehas anextendedtemperatureratingforupto 218˚C (425˚F). TheETR extensioncableratingis up to260˚C (500˚F). BoththeETR probeandcableare compatiblewithstandardtemperatureprobes and cables, forexample, youcanutilizeanETR probewith the330130extensioncable. TheETR system uses the standard3300XLProximitorSensor. Notethat when youuseany ETR component as part of yoursystem, theETR component limits thesystem accuracy tothe accuracy of theETR system.

4.3300XL8mm components arebothelectrically and physically interchangeablewithnon-XL33005mm and
8mm components. Althoughthepackagingof the3300 XLProximitorSensordiffers from its predecessor, its designfits inthesame4-holemountingpatternwhen usedwiththe4-holemountingbase, andwill fit within thesamemountingspacespecifications (when minimum permissiblecablebendradius is observed).
5.MixingXLandnon-XL3300-series 5mm and8mm system components limits system performancetothe specifications forthenon-XL33005mm and8mm TransducerSystem.
6.The3300-series 5mm probe(refertoDocument 141605)uses smallerphysical packaging, but does not reducethesideview clearances ortip-to-tipspacing requirements as comparedtoan8mm probe. It is used whenphysical (not electrical)constraints precludethe useof an8mm probe. Whenyourapplicationrequires narrow sideview probes, usethe3300NSv Proximity TransducerSystem (refertoDocument 147385).
7.8mm probes provideathickerencapsulationof the probecoil inthemoldedPPS plastic probetip. This results inamoreruggedprobe. Thelargerdiameterof theprobebody alsoprovides astronger, morerobust case. Werecommendthat youuse8mm probes when

possibletoprovideoptimal robustness against physical abuse.
8. Each3300XLextensioncableincludes siliconetape that youcanuseinsteadof connectorprotectors. We donot recommendsiliconetapeforapplications that will exposetheprobe-to-extensioncableconnectionto turbineoil.
