Assemble the reset / power-on LED as shown
beside
Disconnect the ID – Tablet from the mains.
Loosen the screws of the cover of the ID tablet
and remove the metal panels.
Lift the cover off

Loosen the screw (1)
Insert the assembled reset/power-on LED (2)
P5
Thread the cable below the holding bracket (3)
Fix the assembled reset/power-on LED by means of the screw (1)
Plug the reset/power-on LED into the Power
Supply Board (P2) and (P5) (2-pin plug into P2, 3-pin plug into P5)
Note: Older Power Supply PCBs do not have
P5. Just leave the cable unconnected.
1. Make sure that the cables of the reset/power on LED are plugged into the Power Supply Board in the way shown beside.

2. Older ID-tablets do not have a P5 connector
on the Power Supply PCB. Therefore the reset function is not available with those machines.

1. General

When do you need this procedure?
if the system hard disk of the Compaq PC is defect.

if the WINDOWS NT / 95 has been crashed
-
This document describes the installation procedure for WINDOWS NT 4.0 and WINDOWS 95 on a Compaq PC.
The "RESTORE CD" initiates a COMPAQ specific installation with:
- formatting and partitioning of the system hard disk
- the installation of the WINDOWS application (WIN NT4.0 or WINDOWS 95)
- the initialization and setup of the PC. The total installation time takes about 60 minutes for WINDOWS NT 4.0 or WINDOWS 95.

2. Installation of WINDOWS NT 4.0

2.1. Which software is necessary?

- Compaq RESTORE CD ROM -------------------
- Microsoft WIN/NT 4.0 CD ROM -----------------
- Microsoft SERVICE PACK 3 CD ROM --------
- booklet Microsoft WIN/NT which contains the Microsoft product identification number on the front page. -----------------------------------
- PRID CD ROM and disk with the language files

2.2. Installation

For a full re-installation, start the procedure as following:

Insert the "RESTORE CD ROM" and switch off/on the PC
The screen shows the selectable languages for the Restore procedure.

Select the language
Wait a few seconds. A welcome screen shows the beginning.

Press <BEGIN>
5) Select your Operating System: select WIN 95 or WIN NT 4.0
Select <WIN/NT 4.0>

Select <language>

Click <NEXT>
A warning for loosing the existing information appears because the hard disk will be reformatted.
8) Confirm selected Operating system and language by

A confirmation screen will be shown.

A warning screen mentioning "hard disk info will be lost" appears.

12) A second confirmation is asked :
The partitioning of the hard disk starts and shows the Drive partitioning Scheme.
13) The message on the screen will be:
C: 2008 MB FAT 16 D: 1153 MB.FAT 16
14) After partitioning
Remark: the hard disks will be formatted as FAT 16. Information about converting the FAT file system to NTFS see item 2.4: Converting FAT to NTFS..

Press <Reboot>.
The system reboots. Then Files are copying from the Restore CD to the Hard disk.

Remove the Restore CD.

Insert the <WINDOWS NT 4.0 CD ROM>
necessary to read the CD ROM.

2.3.1. Confirm or set <Time Zone, Date and Time>
- Select <My Computer> ⇒ <Control panel> ⇒ <Date /Time>
<Time Zone>: choose the local time zone.
<Date /Time>: set or confirm date and time.
2.3.2. Set the video parameters
1) Select <My Computer> ⇒ <Control panel> ⇒ <Display properties>
2) Set video parameters as follows: Color palette: Resolution: Font size : Refresh frequency : minimal

When the test screen is visible your chosen parameters are OK. !If you don't see the test screen the cause could be a limitation of the video card or
monitor (resolution to high, refresh rate to high). Change the values if necessary.

2.3.3. Adapt the keyboard driver if necessary
1) Select <My Computer> ⇒ <Control panel> ⇒ <Key board> ⇒ <Input local>
2) Click <Add> and select the country specific <Input local> (Keyboard driver)
3) Click <Properties>, select the Keyboard layout and press <OK>
4) Select not used keyboard driver(s) and click <Remove>
5) Select the used keyboard driver and press <Set as default>
6) Press <Apply> and <OK>
7) Select <My Computer> ⇒ <Control panel> ⇒ <Key board> ⇒ <General>
8) Confirm or change the keyboard type.
2.3.4. Set the network parameter
1) Select <My Computer> ⇒ <Control panel> ⇒ <Network> ⇒ Tab <Protocols>
2) Click <Add>, select
3) Click <No> in Window <DHCP Server> server
4) Click <Continue> to install Windows NT files from c:\I386
5) Click <Close> to exit the <Network> window
6) Click on <Specify an IP address>
7) Enter the Default IP Address With another IP_address the PRID application will not start up after the
installation. You will get the Error message:
"THIS IS AN ILLEGAL SYSTEM"
8) Enter the Subnet mask
9) Click <Apply> and <OK>
10) Click <Yes> to reboot the PC.

2.4. Converting FAT to NTFS.

If the disk file system NTFS is required from customer side instead of FAT 16,

3.1. Which software is necessary?

3.2. Installation

3.3. Settings for WINDOWS 95

3.3.1. Set the video parameters
1) Select <My Computer> ⇒ <Control panel> ⇒ <Display> ⇒ <Settings>
2) Set video parameters as follows:
- Color palette:
- Resolution:
- Font size:
3) Select <Advanced Properties> ⇒ <Adapter>
- Check that the right Adapter type is installed, (see Compaq Manual) or install the conform driver .
4) Select <Advanced Properties> ⇒ <Monitor>
- Check that the right Monitor is installed (see id-label at the back of the monitor) or install the conform driver and click <OK>
Don't accept the restart of the PC at the moment and press <No>.

3.3.2. Install TCP/IP protocol
1) Select <My Computer> ⇒ <Control panel> ⇒ <Network> ⇒ <Configuration>
2) Select for Primary network
3) Select <Protocol> and click <Add>

8) Click <OK> to accept changes and leave network settings.
