Antes de comenzar a

Inserting Batteries

Remove the battery compartment
cover on the bottom of the instru
ment and insert six 1.5V SUM-2, “C”
size, or equivaient alkaline batteries
(soid separateiy), making sure that
the poiarities are piaced as directed
inside the compartment. Repiace the
cover, ensuring that it iocks secureiy
in piace.

Optional power adaptors

Household current: Power Adaptor
PA-1/PA-1 B/PA-4 is available for
househoid current. No other adaptor
is usabie, so when you purchase a
power adaptor piease ensure that it
is model PA-1/PA-1 B/PA-4.
Car Battery: Car Battery Adaptor
CA-1 piugs into a car cigarette
lighter socket.

Einlegen der Batterien

Nehmen Sie den Batteriefachdeckel an
der Unterseite des Instrumentes ab und
legen Sie sechs l,5-V-/l//:iz//-Babyzellen
(nicht mitgeliefert) unter Beachtung der
im Batteriefach angegebenen Polarität
ein. Danach schließen Sie den Deckel
wieder. Achten Sie darauf, daßer richtig
eingerastet ist.

Als Sonderzubehör erhältliche
Adapter

Für Netzbetrieb: Verwenden Sie stets
nur die im Handel erhältlichen Netz
adapter PA-l/PA-lB/PA-4.
Betrieb an Autobatterie: Hierzu ist der
Batterieadapter CA-1 erforderlich. Er
kann direkt an die Zigarettenanzünder
buchse des Wagens angeschlossen werden.

Mise en place des piles

Retirer le couvercle du logement des
piles sur le fond de l’appareil et y
installer six piles de 1,5V SUM-2 de
format “C”, ou des piles alcalines
équivalentes (vendues séparément).
Respecter les polarités indiquées
dans le logement et replacer le
couvercle en confirmant qu’il est
bien Verrouillé.

Inserción de las pilas

Extraiga la cubierta del compartimiento

For An Even Bigger Sound

Although you’ll be happy with the
sound from the built-in speaker, you
can get an even more satisfying
sound if you connect the PortaSound
to a bigger speaker. Try using your
stereo system (see page 10).

• Attention

Before starting to play, please
remove the protective film covering

the Voice Bank indication panel.

The PSS-270 is programmed with a
demonstration music piece, “Just

The Way You Are”. To hear this

music, do the foliowing.

1. Switch On

Slide the POWER switch @ to the
“ON” position. The VOICE/TEMPO

LED Indicator ® then Illuminates.

2. Adjust the Volume

Slide the MASTER VOLUME control
@ about three-quarters of the way
towards MAX. to set the volume level.

select voices yourself if you like,
but remember that you have to do
so for each phrase immediately
following the automatic selection

made by the PSS-270.

• The Portamento and Stereo

Symphonic effects can be added
(described later).

2. Adjust the volume

Slide the MASTER VOLUME control

However, please note that when,
for example, you use Auto
Accompaniment and Rhythm at
the same time, these two features
account for seven notes;
therefore, in this case only two (or
one*) melody notes can be played
simultaneously (if you press more
than two notes, the latest one will
be played).

Allerdings verringert sich diese
Anzahl bei gleichzeitiger Verwendung
der automatischen Begleit- und
Rhythmus-Funktionen. Diese
Funktionen nehmen bereits sieben
Töne in Anspruch, so daß nur noch
zwei Melodietöne polyphon gespielt
werden können (bzw. nur ein Ton*
spielbar ist). Beim Anschlägen von
mehr als zwei Tasten liefert nur die
als letztes angeschlagene einen Ton.

= 2 Töne (bzw. 1 Ton*) für die

Melodie.

*Einige Stimmen (z.B. Honky-Tonk Piano) beanspruchen

3. Adding effects

• Sustain

Pressing the SUSTAIN selector ®,
makes notes linger after you lift
your fingers from the keys. The
Sustain effect can be added to
each note played.

selected. If you press the STEREO
SYMPHONIC selector ®, you can
cancel this sound-expanding effect.
To re-introduce it, press the
STEREO SYMPHONIC selector
again.

• Vibrato

Durch Drücken des VIBRATO­Schalters ® werden die Töne mit
einem attraktiven Welleneffekt
unterlegt.

• Portamento

Durch Drücken des PORTAMENTO­Schalters @ erhält man weiche

Tonübergänge.

Durch Drücken des STEREO
SYMPHONIC-Schalters ® kann
diese Funktion, die einen weiträumi
geren Klang liefert, abgeschaltet
werden. Um die Funktion wieder
einzuschalten, drücken Sie den
STEREO SYMPHONIC-Schalter
erneut.

1. Choose a rhythm

Pick the rhythm that best suits the
music you’re going to play and push
the relevant RHYTHM selector (z).

• When you turn the power on, the
8 BEAT rhythm is automatically

selected.

After selecting a rhythm, press the
START/STOP selector ®.

The ACCOMP. VOLUME control ®
let you adjust the accompaniment
volume in relation to the melody
volume.

4. Adjust the tempo

Use the TEMPO controls ® to
adjust the speed of the rhythm.

• There are 31 tempo settings
(01 —31) for you to choose from.

• When you turn the power on and

press both Tempo selectors at the
same time, the Voice/Tempo LED
Indicator displays “16” (J = 120).

• When you alter the tempo, the
Voice/Tempo LED Indicator
displays the new setting for about

one second.

• Two small lamps located in the
Voice/Tempo LED Indicator serve
as a visual metronome by flashing
at each quarter note.

You’ll find four jacks at the rear of
the instrument. These jacks are for

connecting optional accessories and

1. When you use AC power or a
