Allegiance Brand Tactics Blood Pressure Cuffs
For 30502-series and 30505-series Blood Pressure Cuffs and 30502-series and 30505-series Aneroid Sphygmomanometers
Setup
Applying Cuff
1. Seat the patient and make them as relaxed and comfortable as pos sible. For arm readings, ensure the patient’s upper arm is at heart level and that the lower arm is passively supported.
3. Wrap the cuff around the bare limb with the “artery” arrow located over the brachial artery with the lower border about 2.5cm above the antecubital space of the arm.
Operation Auscultatory Method – Manual Device (not appropriate for neonatal patients)
1. Place the earpieces of the stethoscope firmly in the ear canal. Place the bell side of the chest piece over the brachial artery at the antecubital space.
2. Rapidly inflate the cuff to a level that is about 30 mm Hg above the estimated (or palpatory) systolic pressure.
3. Partially open the valve to allow deflation at the rate of 2 to 3 mm Hg per second. Listen for the systolic pressure at the first appearance of repetitive sounds during deflation. (Phase 1). 1
4. Listen for the diastolic pressure at the point when the Korotkoff sounds disappear, as the cuff deflates (Phase V). 2
5. Rapidly release the remaining pressure and record the measurements immediately. After a minimum of 30 seconds, repeat the steps above for a second reading.
Oscillometric Method (Electronic Device)
1. Check device instructions for compatibility with cuff.
2. Insure the monitor is in the correct mode (adult, pediatric, neonatal etc.).
3. Connect the cuff connector(s) to the device adapter(s).
4. Follow device instructions for taking blood pressure.
Two-tube cuffs with clamp
To make a two-tube cuff with clamp into a one-tube cuff, depress the clamp to block off airflow through the tube.
Cleaning Gauge: Clean the manometer with a slightly dampened cloth or
alcohol wipe. Blood Pressure Cuffs: Clean the cuffs with a cloth dampened with soap or detergent. Allow the cuff to air dry. Disinfection and Sterilization: Do not use steam, heat or liquid disinfectants to sterilize the cuff, bulb or tubing. Use gas sterilization if necessary.
DO NOT PRESS WITH HOT IRON
