This smoker/grill is safety certified for use in the United States only. Do not modify for use in any other location. Modification will result in a safety hazard.

Do NOT operate, light or use this appliance within ten (10) feet (3.05 m) of walls, structures or buildings.

Apartment Dwellers: Check with management to learn the requirements and fire codes for using an electric smoker/grill in your apartment complex. If allowed, use outside on the ground floor with a ten (10) foot (3.05 m) clearance from any structure. Do not use on or under balconies.

This smoker/grill is for use with electricity.

This is not a tabletop smoker/grill. Therefore, do not place this smoker/grill on any type of tabletop surface.

Do not use 16 gauge extension cords. Damage to household wiring and/or fire could result.

h.In case of fire, turn controller OFF, unplug smoker/grill from outlet and allow fire to burn out. Do not use water to put out a fire in this or any other electrical appliance.

The use of alcohol, prescription or non-prescription drugs may impair the consumer’s ability to properly assemble or safely operate the appliance.

Never use charcoal, lighter fluid, gasoline, kerosene or alcohol with this product.

Do not store or use gasoline or other flammable liquids or vapors within 25 feet (7.62 m) of this appliance.

Do not use in an explosive atmosphere. Keep smoker/grill area clear and free from combustible materials, gasoline and other flammable vapors and liquids.

If using flavored wood follow instructions on flavored wood packaging.

Note: Most fruit or nut tree wood may be used for smoke flavoring, such as hickory, pecan, apple, cherry, or mesquite. Use wood chunks/sticks 3 in. to 4 in. long and 1 in. to 2 in. thick.

Note: Unless the wood is still “green,” soak the wood in water for 20 minutes prior to use, or wrap each piece in foil and tear several small holes in the top of the foil to produce more smoke and prevent the wood from burning too quickly.

Minimum clearance from sides and back of unit to combustible construction is 36 inches (91.4 cm). Do not use this appliance under any type of overhang or roof.

Do not alter smoker/grill in any manner. Any alteration will void your warranty.

Do not use the smoker/grill unless it is COMPLETELY assembled and all parts are securely fastened and tightened.

Do not build this model of smoker/grill in any built-in or slide in construction. Ignoring this warning could cause a fire or an explosion

that can damage property and cause serious bodily injury or death. 3

SAFETY INFORMATION

This smoker/grill should be thoroughly cleaned and inspected on a regular basis. Clean and inspect the temperature control assembly

/electric cord before each use of the appliance. If there is evidence of abrasion, wear or cuts, the temperature control assembly / electric cord must be replaced prior to the appliance being put into operation.

Use only the manufacturer’s factory authorized parts. The use of any part that is not factory authorized can be dangerous and will void your warranty.

Use only the controller provided. The replacement controller shall be that specified by the manufacturer.

Use only Ovis Enterprises Int’l Co., LTD, model OPT-001, cord type SJTOW, temperature controlling plug.

Do not operate this appliance without reading “Operating Instructions” in this manual.

Do not touch metal parts of smoker/grill until it has completely cooled (about 45 min.) to avoid burns, unless you are wearing protective gear (pot holders, gloves, BBQ mittens, etc.).

Never touch grates to see if they are hot.

Do not install or use in or on boats or recreational vehicles.

When cooking, fire extinguishing materials shall be readily accessible. In the event of an oil/grease fire, do not attempt to extinguish with water. Use type BC dry chemical fire extinguisher or smother with dirt, sand or baking soda.

Do not use smoker/grill in high winds.

Never lean over the smoker/grill when lighting.

Do not leave a lit smoker/grill unattended, especially keep children and pets away from smoker/grill at all times.

Do not leave smoker/grill unattended while preheating or burning off food residue on high. If smoker/grill has not been cleaned, a grease fire can occur that may damage the product.

Do not place empty cooking vessels on the appliance while in operation.

Use caution when placing anything on the smoker/grill while the appliance is in operation.

Do not attempt to move smoker/grill when in use. Allow the smoker/grill to cool (about 45 min.) before moving or storing.

Always open smoker/grill lid carefully and slowly as heat and steam trapped within smoker/grill can severely burn you.

Do not use on wooden decks, wooden furniture or other combustible surfaces.

Always place your smoker/grill on a hard, non-combustible level surface. An asphalt or blacktop surface may not be acceptable for this purpose.

Keep all electrical cords away from a hot smoker/grill.

The use of accessory attachments not recommended by the appliance manufacturer may cause injuries.

After a period of storage and/or nonuse, inspect the controller and electrical cord for any abrasion, wear or cuts.

Make sure electric pan is securely and completely in place before using the smoker/grill.

Do not move smoker/grill while water pan contains liquid.

Always use the water pan designed for this smoker/grill.

Do not allow water in water pan to completely evaporate while smoker/grill is in use. Check water pan at least every 2 hours and add water if level is low. Add water per “Adding Additional Water” section in this manual.

Do not remove water from water pan once food is removed. Allow smoker/grill to cool and water to evaporate.

Before smoker/grill can be left unattended:

a.Smoker/grill must be cool.

b.Temperature control assembly / electric cord must be OFF and unplugged from outlet.

Use caution when lifting or moving cooled smoker/grill to prevent strains and back injuries.

Always use a meat thermometer to ensure food is cooked to a safe temperature.

Use protective gloves when assembling this product.

Do not force parts together as this can result in personal injury or damage to the product.

Never cover entire cooking area with aluminum foil.

Outdoor extension cords should be used with outdoor use products and are surface marked with suffix letters “W” and with a tag stating “Suitable for Use with Outdoor Appliances.”

Connections from your smoker/grill to an extension cord should be kept dry and off the ground.

Store products indoors when not in use – out of the reach of children.

Do not clean this product with a spray water or the like.

Never add water or other liquids into electric pan.

Never use or connect smoker/grill to electrical outlet when water or other liquids are in the electric pan.

If the supply cord is damaged, it must be replaced by the manufacturer, its service agent or similarly qualified persons in order to avoid

ahazard.

This appliance is not intended for use by persons (including children) with reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities, or lack of experience and knowledge unless they have been given supervision or instructions concerning the use of the appliance by a person responsible for their safety. Children should be supervised to ensure that they do not play with the appliance.

Outdoor electric smokers/grills:

PREPARATION

Before beginning assembly of product, make sure all parts are present. Compare parts with package contents list and diagram above. If any part is missing or damaged, do not attempt to assemble the product. Contact customer service for replacement parts.

For Easiest Assembly:

To avoid losing any small components or hardware, assemble your product on a hard, level surface that does not have cracks or openings.

• Clear an area large enough to layout all components and hardware.

When applicable, tighten all hardware connections by hand first. Once the step is completed go back and fully tighten all hardware.

• Follow all steps in order to properly assemble your product.

7. Insert the electric pan (K) into the bottom bowl (M).

10.To lock the smoker/grill:

Close the lid. Slide the lock forward, till the sides of the lock cover the lid and bottom bowl. See 9a.

To unlock the smoker/grill:

Slide the lock backwards, till the lock stops, or both sides of the lock are free from the lid and bottom bowl. See 9b.

11.Insert the water pan (F) and cooking grids (D) into smoker body. Place the lid (B) onto smoker body.

12.Insert the temperature control assembly / electric cord (N) into the heating element (O).

OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS

CAUTION

Always place your smoker/grill on a hard, non-combustible, level surface. An asphalt or blacktop surface may not be acceptable for this purpose.

CAUTION

Do not use on wooden decks, wooden furniture or other combustible surfaces.

CAUTION

Position smoker/grill to prevent smoke from entering house through open doors or windows.

CAUTION

Do not use in high winds.

Extension Cord

Note: Smoker/grill functions best WITHOUT an extension cord.

1.The short cord is provided to reduce the risk of becoming entangled in or tripping over a longer cord.

2.An extension cord may be used, if care is exercised.

3.If an extension cord is necessary:

Use a UL approved, 3 prong plug (grounded) that is rated for at least 15 amperes and suitable for outdoor use.

Never connect two or more extension cords together.

• Use the shortest extension cord possible.

• A 12or 14-gauge cord of less than 50 feet is preferable.

• Keep connections dry and off the ground.

• Avoid draping the smoker/grill cord over a countertop or tabletop where it can be pulled on by children, animals or tripped over unintentionally.

Grounding Instructions

1.

This smoker/grill must be grounded while in use to protect the

 

 

 

operator from electrical shock.

 

 

2.

The smoker/grill is equipped with a 3-conductor cord and a dry GFI

 

 

 

(Ground-Fault Interceptor) 3-prong outlet. (See Figure 1).

 

 

3. An adaptor should be used for connecting a 3-prong plug to a

 

 

 

 

 

2-plug to 2-prong receptacle. (See Figure 2).

The grounding tab, which extends from the adaptor, must be

 

 

connected to a permanent ground such as a properly grounded

 

 

 

outlet box using a metal screw. (See Figure 3).

 

 

First Use

1. Make sure all labels, packaging and protective films have been removed from the smoker/grill.

2. Remove manufacturing oils before cooking on this smoker/grill for the first time:

a. Light smoker/grill per “Turning On Instructions” section in this

 

manual.

b. Operate smoker/grill for at least 2 hours with the lid closed. This will “heat clean” the internal parts and dissipate odors.

c.Do not touch the exterior of the smoker/grill or open the lid during this process.

d.After the 2 hours, follow “Smoking Instructions” or “Grilling Instructions” sections in this manual.

3.Apply a protective coat:

a.Remove water pan, electric pan and heating element from smoker/grill.

b.Apply a light coat of vegetable oil or vegetable oil spray to all interior surfaces of smoker/grill.

CAUTION

Do not apply vegetable oil to water pan, electric pan or heating element.

Turning On Instructions

CAUTION

Keep outdoor electric cooking appliance area clear and free from combustible materials, gasoline and other flammable vapors and liquids.

CAUTION

Before each use check smoker/grill for any damaged or loose parts. Tighten any loose parts and replace any damaged parts before using smoker/grill.

CAUTION

Make sure electric pan is empty and securely and completely in place before using the smoker/grill.

1.Make sure electric pan and smoker/grill are secure.

2.Make sure that temperature controller assembly is turned fully to the “OFF” position. (Figure 4).

3.Plug the temperature controller assembly into the smoker/grill.

(Figures 5 and 6).

4.Plug the other end into a dry GFI (Ground-Fault Interceptor)

3-prong outlet, per “Grounding Instructions” section.

5.Turn the temperature controller to “HIGH”.

6.Close lid and preheat smoker/grill.

Note: If using flavored wood follow instructions on flavored wood packaging.

Turning Off Instructions

1.Turn the temperature controller knob to “OFF” position.

(Figure 4).

2.Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.

3.Unplug the temperature controller assembly from the smoker/grill.

Smoking Instructions

CAUTION

Check to make sure the unit is free of debris before use.

1.Light smoker/grill per “Turning On Instruction” in this manual.

2.While wearing protective gloves, carefully remove the smoker/grill lid. Make sure to open the lid away from you. This will allow the steam to escape away from you.

3.If using flavored wood follow instructions on flavored wood packaging.

Note: Most fruit or nut tree wood may be used for smoke flavoring, such as hickory, pecan, apple, cherry, or mesquite. Use wood chunks/sticks 3 in. to 4 in. long and 1 in. to 2 in. thick.

Note: Unless the wood is still “green,” soak the wood in water for 20 minutes prior to use, or wrap each piece in foil and tear several small holes in the top of the foil to produce more smoke and prevent the wood from burning too quickly.

4.While wearing protective gloves, carefully place water pan on water pan brackets. (Figure 7).

5.While wearing protective gloves, carefully fill water pan with water or other liquid to 1 inch (2.54 cm) below the water pan rim

(Figure 8, p. 13). Do not fill past “Max Fill Line”.

Note: Water pan holds 2 liters (2.2 quarts) of water and will last about 2-3 hours when smoker/grill is in use.

6.While wearing protective gloves, carefully place cooking grid on the lower cooking grid supports. (Figures 10a, 10b, or 10c, p. 13).

7.While wearing protective gloves, carefully place food in a single layer and evenly spaced on the lower cooking grid.

8.While wearing protective gloves, carefully place other cooking grid on upper cooking grid supports.

(Figures 10a, 10b, or 10c, p. 13).

9.While wearing protective gloves, carefully place the food in a single layer and evenly spaced on the upper cooking grid.

CAUTION

Open lid slowly as flare-up can occur, when fresh air suddenly comes in contact with fire.

Cooking directly over heat source is ideal for searing in juices and grilling food requiring less than 25 minutes of grilling time, such as steaks, hamburgers, hot dogs, chicken parts, vegetables and fruit.

1.Remove lid, cooking grids and water pan. Set aside.

2.Unlock and remove smoker/grill body. Set aside.

3.Make sure electric pan is secure.

4.Place lava rocks into electric pan. (Figure 9).

5.Place cooking grid on electric pan.

6.Start grill per “Turning On Instructions” section.

7.Close lid and preheat grill on “HIGH” setting.

11.Turn grill OFF per “Turning Off instructions”.

Adding Additional Water

While using the smoker/grill check water level at least every 2 hours. If water is needed it can be added through top of the smoker/ grill or through the smoker/grill side door. See instructions below.

Note: Low water level can be detected by listening for the sound of water sizzling.

Adding Water Option 1 - Through Top of Smoker/grill

1.While wearing protective gloves, carefully remove the smoker/grill lid. Make sure to open the lid away from you. This will allow the steam to escape away from you.

Open door slowly as flare-up can occur, when fresh air suddenly comes in contact with fire.

2.Determine water level in water pan:

a.If water is needed continue to step 3.

b.If water is not needed, replace lid on smoker/grill.

3.Upper cooking grid only used:

a.While wearing protective gloves and using long cooking tongs, slide food over to one side of cooking grid.

b.Carefully pour water into water pan to 1 inch (2.54 cm) below the water pan rim. (Figure 8). Do not over fill water pan.

CAUTION

Stand to side of smoker/grill and use extreme caution while pouring water as it may turn directly to steam.

c. Move food back to the proper location.

Upper and lower cooking grid used:

tongs, remove food and upper cooking grid.

tongs, slide food over to one side of lower cooking grid.

d.Move food back to the proper location on lower cooking grid.

e.Replace upper cooking grid and food.

f.Replace lid on smoker/grill.

Adding Water Option 2 - Through Side of Smoker/grill

1.While wearing protective gloves, carefully open the smoker/grill side door. Make sure to stand on the opposite side of door opening. This will allow the steam to escape away from you.

CAUTION

Open door slowly as flare-up can occur, when fresh air suddenly comes in contact with fire.

2.Determine water level in water pan:

a.If water is needed continue to step 3.

b.If water is not needed, close side door on smoker/grill.

3.Using a funnel or a container with a spout, carefully pour water into water pan to 1 inch (2.54 cm) below the water pan rim. (Figure 8, p. 12). Do not over fill water pan.

CAUTION

Stand to side of smoker/grill and use extreme caution while pouring water as it may turn directly to steam.

4. Close side door on smoker/grill.

Controlling Flare-ups:

WARNING

Do not use water on an oil/grease fire. This can cause the grease to splatter and could result in serious burns, bodily harm or other damage.

CAUTION

Do not leave smoker/grill unattended while preheating, cooking or burning off food residue. If smoker/ grill has not been cleaned, an oil/grease fire can occur that may damage the product.

CAUTION

When cooking, fire extinguishing materials shall be readily accessible. In the event of an oil/grease fire, do not attempt to extinguish with water. Use type BC dry chemical fire extinguisher or smother with dirt, sand or baking soda.

Flare-ups are a part of cooking meats on a smoker/grill and add to the unique flavor of smoking.

Excessive flare-ups can over-cook your food and cause a dangerous situation for you and your smoker/grill. Excessive flare-ups result from the build-up of grease in the bottom of your smoker/grill.

If excessive flare-ups occur, DO NOT pour water onto the flames.

If grease fire occurs, close the lid until the grease burns out. Use caution when opening the lid as sudden flare-ups may occur.

Minimize Flare-ups:

1.Trim excess fat from meats prior to cooking.

2.Ensure that your smoker/grill is on a hard, level, non-combustible surface.

Tips for Better Cookouts and Longer Smoker/grill Life

1.There is very little difference in temperature and cooking times between the upper and lower cooking grid. The food that requires the least amount of cooking time should be placed on the upper cooking grid.

2.To get the best results with your smoker/grill, remember to keep the water pan full with water or other liquids, keep your heating element hot and keep the lid closed.

3.To reduce flare-ups keep smoker/grill clean, use lean cuts of meat (or trim fat) and avoid cooking on very high temperatures.

4.Place delicate foods like fish and vegetables in aluminum foil pouches and indirect cook or place on upper cooking levels.

5.To avoid losing natural juices, use long handled tongs or spatulas instead of forks and turn foods over just once during cooking.

6.When indirect cooking roasts and larger cuts of meat, place meat onto a roasting rack inside a heavy gauge metal pan.

7.Clean cooking grids and racks after every use with a quality smoker/grill brush designed for your grid material. Wear protective gloves and gently remove the build-up while grids are hot.

8.Allow smoker/grill to fully cool after every use. Then protect clean cooking grids with a light coat of cooking oil, clean out all ashes, wipe outside surfaces with a suitable kitchen cleaner and protect surfaces with a quality cover that properly fits your smoker/grill.

9.Watch barbecue themed TV shows or purchase related barbecue cookbooks to learn helpful and interesting tips.

CARE AND MAINTENANCE

CAUTION

All cleaning and maintenance should be done when smoker/grill is cool (about 45 minutes) and with the fuel supply removed.

CAUTION

DO NOT clean any smoker/grill part in a self cleaning oven. The extreme heat will damage the finish.

CAUTION

Do not leave smoker/grill unattended while preheating, cooking or burning off food residue on high. If smoker/grill has not been cleaned, a grease fire can occur that may damage the product.

CAUTION

Do not allow water in water pan to completely evaporate. Check water pan at least every 2 hours and add water if level is low. Add water per “Adding Additional Water” section in this manual.

CAUTION

Do not remove water from water pan once food is removed. Allow smoker/grill to cool and water to evaporate.

CAUTION

Before smoker/grill can be left unattened:

a.Smoker/grill must be cool.

b.Temperature control assembly / electric cord must be OFF and unplugged from outlet.

Notices

1.Abrasive cleaners will damage this product.

2.Never use oven cleaner to clean any part of smoker/grill.

Cleaning Surfaces

1.Clean all surfaces with warm water and mild dish washing detergent or baking soda.

2.For stubborn surfaces use a citrus based degreaser and a nylon scrubbing brush.

3.Rinse clean with water and dry.

Tips

1.Keep smoker/grill covered when not in use to help prevent rust.

2.Applying a light coat of vegetable oil or vegetable oil spray to the interior surfaces of the smoker/grill can help prevent rust.

a.Remove water pan and charcoal grid from smoker/grill.

b.Apply a light coat of vegetable oil or vegetable oil spray to all interior surfaces of smoker/grill.

CAUTION

Do not apply vegetable oil to water pan, electric pan or heating element.

Blue Rhino Global Sourcing, Inc (“Vendor”) warrants to the original retail purchaser of this product, and to no other person, that if this product is assembled and operated in accordance with the printed instructions accompanying it, then for a period of one

(1) year from the date of purchase, all parts in such product shall be free from defects in material and workmanship. Vendor may require reasonable proof of your date of purchase. Therefore, you should retain your sales slip or invoice. This Limited Warranty shall be limited to the repair or replacement of parts, which prove defective under normal use and service and which Vendor shall determine in its reasonable discretion upon examination to be defective. Before returning any parts, you should contact Vendor’s Customer Service Department using the contact information listed below. If Vendor confirms, after examination, a defect covered by this Limited Warranty in any returned part, and if Vendor approves the claim, Vendor will replace such defective part without charge. If you return defective parts, transportation charges must be prepaid by you. Vendor will return replacement parts to the original retail purchaser, freight or postage prepaid.

This Limited Warranty does not cover any failures or operating difficulties due to accident, abuse, misuse, alteration, misapplication, improper installation or improper maintenance or service by you or any third party, or failure to perform normal and routine maintenance on the product as set out in this owner’s manual.  In addition, the Limited Warranty does not cover damage to the finish, such as scratches, dents, discoloration, rust or other weather damage, after purchase.
