This is used to prevent damage fir dirt scratches etc. when using a DVD-RAM/RW/R disc.
DVD-RAM, DVD-RW and DVD-R
Clean with an optional DVD-RAM/PD _. disc cleaner. Do not use cleaners or
cloths for CDs to clean DVDRAM/ DVD-RVvYDVD-R discs.
| Handling Cautions
Before connecting other components to this recorder, be sure to turn them all off.
Do not move the recorder while a disc is being played, or
the disc may he scratched or hroken, and the recorderg internal parts may he damaged.
Do not put a flower vase filled with water or any small
metal objects on tile recorder.
Be careful not to put your hand into the disc tray:
Do not place anything other than the disc in the disc tray
Exterior interference such as lightning and static electrici-
ty call affect normal operation of this recorder. If this occurs, turn the recorder off and on again with tile
POWER hutton, or disconnect and then reconnect the power cord to the wall outlet. Tile recorder will operate
normally:

Do not load warped or cracked discs.

DVD-Video
A digital versatile disc (DVD) can contain up to 135- minutes of images, 8-language audio and 32 subtitle languages. It is equipped ;vith MPEG-2 picture com-
pression and Dolby 3D surround, allo;vmg you to enjoy vivid and clear theater quality images in the
comfort of your o;vn home.
When switching from the first layer to the second layer of a douhle-layered DVD Video disc, there may

In both modes, playback can be performde hefore and after finalization, hut additional recording, deleting and editing can not he performed after finalization.
If you want to record the disc in VR Mode and then record in VR Mode, be sure to execute format. Be care-
ful ;;'ben executing Format hecause all the recorded data ;','ill be lost.
A DVD-RW blank disc is initialized to VR Mode when
first initialized.

DVD-RW- (VR mode)
- This is a format that is used for recording data on a DVD-_M or DVD-R\V disc. 5kin can repeat recording,
editing, deleting, partial deletion, creation of playlist, and etc.
- A disc that is recorded in this anode may not he played hy existing DVD players.
DVD-RVV-(Video mode)
- This is a format that is used for recording data on a
DVD-RW or DVD-R disc. The disc can be played hy an existing compatible DVD player once it has beera final-
ized.
-If a disc that has beerarecorded iraVideo mode by a dif-
ferent manufacturer's recorder and other Toshiha model
hut has not heen finalized it cannot be played or addi-
tionally be recorded by this recorder.
DVD-RAM Disc Playback andRecording
DVD-RAM discs conn: with or without a cartridgc. For this product, we recommend DVD-_4M discs that come with cartridges.
Some cartridges are able to qject the disc inside. Even if you are able to ciect the disc, always use the disc with the cartridge to ensure correct operation.
DVD-RAM discs have a Write Protect tab in order to avoid accidental erasure of recorded data. With the
Write Protect tab set to PROTECT, you can play the disc. hut recording or erasing ,,','ill not work. Set the
Write Protect tab to UNPROTECT to format the disc or erase data.
Erasure that the recording mode is set to VR mode. Otherwise, this product will not be able to play the recording.
I\_u cannot play a DVD-EkM ira most DVD players due to compatibility issues.
Only DVD-RAM standard Version 2.1 discs can he played in this unit.
DVD-RAM recorded on this unit anav not work with other DVD Players. To determine compatihility with
these DVD-EkM discs, refer to the user's manual for the player.
This unit is compatible with hoth non-cartridge and car- tridgc DVD-EkM, hut the write-protect tahs on cartridge- type discs give better protection to your recordings.

LD, CD-G, CD-I, CD-ROM, DVD-ROM. VCD, DVD+R and DVD+RW discs should not he used irathis product.

CD-RW/MP3/JPEG/DVD-Video/DVD-_M/DVD- RW/DVD-R. However, if your DVD-RW/-R disc was recorded with another device, it anay he played only if it
was recorded and finalized iravideo mode.
Some connnercial discs and DVDdiscs punhased out- side your region may not be playable with this prod-
uct. When these discs are played, either "No disc." or "Please check the regional code." will he displayed.
If your DVD-RW disc is an illegal copy or is not ira DVD video format, it anay also not he playable.
ManyDVDdiscs areencoded with cop3 protection. Becauseof this, 3ou should onl3 connect your DVD Recorder-VCRdirectl3 to your TUnot to a VCR.

After all connections are complete, plug the power cord

"AUTO" in the front pand display flickers. This means that the eurrem time is being set automatically (Auto Program) through the antenna under connection. The setup may take

Whenever pulling the power cord out of the wall

Install Batteries in the Remote Control
Open the hattery cover on the back of the remote.
Inserttwo AA hatteries. Make sun' that the polarities
(+ and -) are aligned correctl>
Replacethe batteWcover.
If the remote does not operate properly:

Check if the batteries are drained.
