Is it really true that inkjet printing is actually cheaper than
thermal printing? Why would you want to even consider to
offer thermal printing to your customers as an alternative
or complement to inkjet printing? The following summarizes the key facts you need to know and the advantages
that thermal printing offers:
IMAGE Q UALIT Y
Photo-realistic images are only achievable with thermal printing. They are
even sharper than replicated prints.
QUANTITY/QUALITY CONSISTENCY
You have experienced inconsistent print-quality with inkjet printing. Print quality will look different based on how much ink remains in any of the cartridges. With thermal printing, each ribbon contains enough pigment to print 500
discs. Each print is identical.
DRY TIME
Inkjet-printed media could take a few minutes to dry. But inks stay wet
around the outside edge and on the inner hub due to surface finish characteristics of all discs. This leads to ink “smearing and smudging” caused by
handling of un-dried discs. Thermal prints are never wet to have to dry!
Thermal technology eliminates dry time.
INDELIBILITY
Inkjet prints will easily scratch, fade, run and smudge. This will never happen
with thermal prints.
COST/SAVINGS
It is difficult to forecast inkjet print-output since ink output could vary from
job to job. You might save initially on the cost of the printer, but incure more
future costs with inefficient inkjet cartidge replacement and related job ‘reruns”. With thermal printing you can get 500 prints per ribbon. GUARANTEED.
COLOR SHIFT
Color shifting occurs when one of the three colors in a cartridge runs out.
This causes overall color accuracy to ‘shift’ in the middle of a run. With thermal printing, there is absolutely no color shifting. The sensor system of the
Image Pro printer recognizes when ribbon capacity is at its end.
BANDING
Inkjet Printing can create visible horizontal lines (‘bands’) across the disc as
ink runs out. Banding happens generally with larger jobs that are set up to
run unattended. What is your REAL cost-per-print when you have to throw
out 20 bad discs repeatedly? With thermal printing, 500 identical discs-perribbon is ASSURED, so you can truly use the printer unattended.
EDGE-TO-EDGE PRINTING
Inkjet printer can not print to the edge of the disc. Due to non-printable characteristic of the edges of an inkjet disc, over-run ink never dries and smears
when touched. Thermal printing prints edge-to-edge.

BILDQUALITÄT
Foto-realistische Abbildungen auf Disks sind nur mit dem Themo-Re-Transfer
Druck zu erzielen. Abbildungen sind sogar schärfer und brillanter als auf
Fotoabzügen.
GLEICHBLEIBENDES QUALITÄTSNIVEAU
Mit dem Inkjet-Druck verändert sich die Qualität abhängig vom Füllstand der
Tintencartridges im Drucker. Mit dem Thermo-Re-Transfer Verfahren hingegen
sieht jede bedrucke CD oder DVD gleich aus. Mit einem Farbband lassen
maximal 500 Disks in einem Arbeitsgang bedrucken.
TROCKENZEIT
Die mit einem Inkjet bedruckten Discs brauchen einige Minuten, um zu trocknen. Aber die Tinte an den äußeren und inneren Rändern bleibt noch feucht.
Das Risiko eines verschmierten Drucks ist hoch, wenn nicht genügend Zeit
zum Trocknen bleibt und schnell produziert werden muss. Thermo Re-Transfer
Drucke sind nie feucht und müssen auch nicht erst trocknen. So sparen Sie Zeit.
HALTBARKEIT
Inkjet-Drucke verblassen, sind nicht UV-beständig, nicht kratzfest und können
verwischen. Das passiert mit Thermo-Drucken nie.
KOSTEN
Es ist schwierig, die genauen Kosten für Inkjet-Prints einzuschätzen, denn je
nach Cartridge-Output und Bildmotiv auf der Disc können diese erheblich
variieren. Am Anfang spart man sicherlich bei den Anschaffungs kosten für
den Drucker, doch langfristig sind die Kosten nicht wirklich genau zu kalkulieren. Mit dem Thermo-Verfahren ist das anders: pro Farbband können immer
500 Disks bedruckt werden. Garantiert.
FARBVERÄNDERUNGEN
Unschöne Farbveränderungen treten bei Inkjet-Druckern immer dann auf, wenn
z.B., eine der drei Cartridges einen niedrigen Tintenfüllstand hat. Gewünschte
Farben werden dann nur sehr unzureichend wiedergegeben. Mit dem
Thermo Re-Transfer Druck ist das völlig ausgeschlossen, denn die Sensorik
des Image Pro erkennt, wenn die Druckkapazität des Farbbandes endet.
LINIENVERLÄUFE
Beim Inkjet-Druck kann es passieren, dass sichtbare horizontale Linien über
die Disk laufen, wenn dem Drucker die Tinte ausgeht. Diese Linienverläufe
treten auf, wenn sehr viele Disks in einem Durchgang bedruckt werden und
der Job nicht ständig kontrolliert wird. Resultat: die Kosten pro Druck steigen,
wenn man pro Job 20 Disks aufgrund mangelnder Qualität nicht verwenden
kann – und das nicht nur einmal! Mit einem Thermo-Re-Transfer Drucker
erhalten Sie IMMER 500 identische Disks pro Farbband und der
Druckprozess muss nicht beaufsichtigt werden.
RANDABFALLENDER DRUCK
Die Charakteristik einer Inkjet Disk verhindert es, dass der Inkjet-Drucker die
Medien randabfallend vollflächig bedrucken kann. An den Rändern trocknet
die Tinte schlecht und verschmiert, wenn man die Disk dort berührt. ThermoDrucker bedrucken alle CDs und DVDs vollflächig von Rand zu Rand.

Um elektronische Informationen ansprechend gestaltet zu verteilen,
sind bedruckte CD/DVD-Medien die erste Wahl. Systeme bestehend

Die Serverkomponenten kontrollieren die angeschlossenen CDund DVD-Produktionssysteme. Mit der intuitiven grafischen
Benutzeroberfläche der Client-Applikation werden mit nur wenigen Mausklicks Kopien von Medien, neue Daten CD/DVDs, Audio
CDs oder Druckjobs erzeugt und an den Server übermittelt. Den
Status der Produktion und der Geräte kann man ebenfalls netzwerkweit überwachen.
Sogar ohne Client-Applikation und allein über das Dateisystem
kann die Medienproduktion gesteuert werden. Dazu werden die
gewünschten Dateien in ein spezielles Verzeichnis auf dem Server
kopiert, gemäß definierbarer Ereignisse auf Medien geschrieben

consisting of software, drives, printer and robot offer a professio-

Server components control the connected CD/ DVD production

of disc printing surface to use. Using VersaMax print ribbons together with

surface (thermal-printable surface is no longer required!).
