What Is Boost Mode?
Boost mode is a special mode in which AIBO becomes super energetic and acts with zest. In this mode, AIBO walks, avoids obstacles, or explores your room, but with special motions called “boost-walking,” “boost-avoiding” and “boost-searching,” respectively. This document provide details on AIBO’s behavior in Boost mode, and hints on playing with AIBO in Boost mode not included in the supplied User’s Guide.
For owners of ERS-210
The part names, shapes and locations described in this document are those of “AIBO” ERS-220, unless otherwise specified. If your AIBO is the ERS-210, see page 14 of the User’s Guide to confirm the parts that should be operated or viewed.

When AIBO enters this mode
AIBO tends to enter this mode in the following cases:
• When you talk to AIBO with high frequency (especially calling its name).
• When AIBO communicates, establishes good compatibility and enjoys good conversation with another AIBO.
Hint
When the compatibility with another AIBO is not good, your AIBO plays paper-rock-scissors with the other AIBO. If your AIBO wins, it makes a gesture indicating that it has won. If your AIBO loses, it will just be disappointed.
After AIBO enters Boost mode
AIBO makes a joyful gesture and its tail light lights up red. AIBO appears unable to control its emotion and gets ready to run at any moment!
Joyful gesture
AIBO then turns on its retractable head light and performs boost-walking or another actions unique to Boost mode.

Decide which course of action AIBO will take with the roulette!
Three courses are provided in Boost mode. Which course AIBO takes is decided by what is referred to in this manual as “roulette”: all of AIBO’s lights flash one after another. After AIBO has entered Boost mode for a while, it stretches out its front legs and pauses. AIBO then turns on all of its lights and starts the roulette. Push the back sensor within five seconds after the start of spinning to decide the course AIBO will take.
Hint
If you don’t press the back sensor within five seconds, AIBO decides the course it will take by itself.
The results of the roulette is indicated by the back multi-indicator lights (or the direction of the tail in the case of the ERS-210).

Mechanical course
AIBO performs various special actions that it is proud of. Afterwards, it makes the following gesture to ask you give it your evaluation.
Tell AIBO your impressions!
(Listens intently.)
Evaluate the action that AIBO has performed.
Say the following to AIBO. When AIBO has performed well:
“Good boy/girl,” “Cool,” “Good AIBO,” “Thank you/Thanks,” “Go for it” and “Continue/ Keep going”
When AIBO has preformed poorly: “Stop,” “That’ s it/All done,” “Go away” and “Be quiet”.
Hint
If you do not evaluate AIBO’s action within ten seconds after it has finished, AIBO will take it to mean that it has performed poorly.

Note
Even if AIBO did not perform well, do not say to AIBO, “Don’t do it”/“Don’t do that,” and do not push the head sensor in the forward direction to scold it. If you scold AIBO several times while it is in Boost mode, it will become angry and quit Boost mode.
AIBO will then perform a new action, depending on your evaluation.
Explorer course
As implied by the name of the course, AIBO will begin exploring your room keenly while performing boost-walking. AIBO performs boost-avoiding when it encounters an obstacle, and it performs boost-searching to track the pink ball when it comes across it!
Sonic course
AIBO makes various sounds. After AIBO dances with all of its legs outstretched, it lifts one of the four at random to select one of the menu items provided by the Sonic course.
