A proper location helps to ensure that your printer provides you with the long service life for which it is designed. Double-che ck to make sure that the locatio n you select has the following characteris tics.
• Choose a location that is well-ventilated.
• Make sure there is no chance of ammonia or other organic gasses being generated in the area.
• The power outlet you plan to connect to for power should be nearby and unobstructed.
• Make sure that th e pri nter is not exposed to direct sunl i ght.
• Avoid areas in the direct airflow of ai r condi tione rs, hea ters, or ve ntil ators, and are as subje cted to temperature and humidity ex tre mes.
• Choose a sturdy, level surface where the pr inter will not be exposed to strong vi bration.
• Keep the printe r awa y from any objects that might bloc k it s heat vents.
• Do not locate th e pri nter near curtains or other co m bustible objects.
• Choose an area where there is no possibilit y of the printer being splashed with water or other liquids.
• Make sure that th e surrounding area is clean, dry, and free of dust.
2SHUDWLRQDO3UHFDXWLRQV
Note the following important precautions whenever using the printer.
Operating Environment
The following describes the operating environment required when using the printer:
• Temperature: 10°C to 35°C (50°F to 95°F) with fluctuation of 10°C (18°F) per hour.
• Humidity: 15% to 85% with fluctuation of 20% per hour.
Terminal
The following describes pre cautions for using the printer .
• Never turn the pri nter off or open any of its covers during a pri nt operation.
• Never place f la mmable gasses, liquids or o bjects that generate magnetic forces near the printer.
• When unplugging the power cord, always grasp the plug and never pull on the cord. A damaged cord creates the danger of fire or electrical shock.
• Never touch the power cord when your hands are wet. Doing so creat es the danger of elec trical shock.
• Always unplu g the power cord be fore moving the p rinter. Failure to do so can dama ge the power cord, creating the danger of fire or electrical shock.

• Never try to remove any secured panel or cover. The interior of the printer contains
high-voltage circuitry which creates th e da nger of electrical shock when exposed.
• Never try to modify the printer. Doing so creates the danger of fire or electrical shock.
• Never place any heavy objects on the power cord, pull on it or bend it. Doing so creates the
danger of fire or electrical shock.
• Always make sure the printer is not placed on the electrical cord or the communications
cables of any other electrical e quipment. Also make sure that cords and cables do not get
into the printer ’s mechan ism. Any of t he se co nd itio ns c rea te t he da nge r of ma lf uncti on and
fire.
• Always take care so that paper cli ps, staple s, or other sm all pie ces of m etal do no t get int o
the printer through its vents or other openings. Such objects create the danger of fire or elec-
trical shock.
• Do not allow water or other liquids to spill on or near the printer. Fire or electrical shock can
occur should water or liquid com e in to contact with the printer.
• Should liquid or any piece of metal accidently get inside the printer, immediately turn it off,
unplug the power cord, and contact your dealer. Failure to take this immediate action creates
the danger of fire or electrical shock.
• Whenever the printer em its unusually high amounts of h eat, smoke, an unusual odor, or
noise, immediately turn it off, unp lu g it, and co nt act yo ur d ealer. Failure to take this imm e-
diate action creates the d an g er of fire or electrical shock.
Caution - Be sure t o locate the pri nter in a wel l-ventilated lo cation. A mi nimal amount o f
ozone is generated during norm al operati on of this prin ter. Beca use of this, an unpleasant odo r
may result when the printer i s used for extensive printing in a poorly venti lated area. For
comfortable, healthy, and safe operation, be sure to locat e the printer in a well-ventilated area.

This function is used when your fax is installed with a private network, behind an auto branch exchange telephone company. It allows you to program an additional automatic local prefix (to
be defined), enabling you to automatically exit the company’s telephone network system, but only under certain conditions:
• the company’s internal numbers, wh ere a p ref ix is not requi red, must be short numbe rs less
than the minimal size (to be defined),
• the outside num bers req uiring a pr efix, must be lon g numb ers greate r or equal t o the mini- mal size (to be defined, for examp le France has 10 numbers).
Programming your fax with the local prefix consists of two steps:
• defining the minimal size (or equal) of the company’s outside numbers,
• defining th e outgoing local prefix of the company’s telephone network. This prefix wi ll automatical ly be added as soon as an external numbe r is dialled.
Caution - If you d efine a loc al pref ix, do not add it to t he numbers st ored in the directo ry: it

Your Internet F@x™ is a new generation machine that will be part of your local network just like a PC. Its built-in local net w ork acccess card will enable you to sen d documents through an SMTP/POP3 local message server (internally or externally, depending on the settings of your message server).

Your F@x™ Internet lets you sen d and receive documents and E-ma i ls from subsc ri bers throughout the world vi a the Internet network. An E-mail is an electronic message sent by the Internet, to an E-mail address (which is a personal Internet mailbox). Access to the Internet is possible thanks to an Internet service provider (ISP). The provider puts at your disposal a server or computer system which allows you to connect to the Internet and your mailbox through your te le phone line.
Before worldwide transmission, you must:
• subscribe to an Interne t se rvi ce provider (ISP),
• check th at all initialisation parameter s correspond to those provided by your ISP,
• perform the prope r settings, if needed, for the Internet connection.
