Thank you and congratulations on your choice of the Roland BK-7m. System version 1.05 has just been released. It intro­duces new functions and a few changes. If you own one of the first BK-7m units released by Roland, you can update its operating system to version 1.05. Your BK-7m may already contain system version 1.05, however.
To check which system version you have, please see the procedure below. If the display says “V1.04” (or earlier), your BK-7m needs to be updated. If the message reads “V1.05” (or higher), there is nothing you need to do, because your BK-7m is already up-to-date.
Checking the BK-7m’s system version number
1. Switch on the BK-7m.
2. Press the [MENU] button.

3. Rotate the [CURSOR/VALUE] dial to select “Global”, then press the dial.
4. Rotate the [CURSOR/VALUE] dial to select “Utility”, then press the dial.
5. Rotate the [CURSOR/VALUE] dial to select “Version Info”.
Check the version number that is displayed here. (It must be “1.05”.)
6. Press and hold the [EXIT] button to return to the main page.
New ‘Melody Intelligent’ option for the ‘Pedal’ and ‘Pedal Controller FC-7’ parameters

The “Pedal” setting is found on the display page that can be selected using [MENU] button‰ “Global” ‰ “Pedal”.
After “ChordRecOff” (at the end of the table), please add:

Allows you to control the “Switch” parameter of the “Melody Intelli­gent” function.

Support for MIDI Visual Control messages
The BK-7m now supports both MIDI Visual Control messages (a new standardized way of remotely con­trolling external video devices) and the V-LINK proto­col (the precursor of MIDI Visual Control messages).
Even though the messages are basically the same, MVC devices expect a SysEx code to initiate video control which is different from the one expected by V-LINK-compatible devices.
Therefore, the following parameter has been added to the BK-7m’s [MENU]‰ “Global”‰ “Utility” sub­menu:
Visual Ctrl Mode
MVC, V-LINK This parameter allows
you to select the visual control mode. The option to select depends on the mes­sages supported by the external device: MIDI Visual Control (MVC) or V-LINK.
Any reference to “V-LINK” in the owner’s manual
should be taken to mean “both MIDI Visual Control and V-LINK”, as both are supported.
Additional Tones and Drum Sets
The BK-7m V1.05 adds 39 new oriental Tones and 2 new oriental Drum Sets to the original sound set. See the lists below.
This also means that the “Sounds” row in the “Specifica­tions” section should now read as follows:
