1 General Description

1.1. Overview

This section covers the features and specifications of the plain paper facsimile transceiver "Panasonic UFE1". This facsimile can transmit and receive on the Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN) in the modes conforming to CCITT Group 3 recommendations.

1.2. Fax Features and Functions

1. Thermal Ink-jet Printing Clear picture quality is obtained by employing a thermal ink-jet printing method on plain paper.
2. Easy Maintenance The thermal ink-jet printing mechanism does not require the use of a drum, a developer unit or toner. Resulting in an easily cleaned and maintained machine.
3. A4 Scanning A4 is the maximum document width that can be scanned and transmitted. B4 scanning is only available in Taiwan and Chaina.
4. Automatic Document Feeder An Automatic Document Feeder feeds originals from the document tray automatically, starting with the bottom page. Capacity : 20 documents (A4 size) of average thickness and of the same size.
15 documents (B4 size) of average thickness and of the same size.
5. Speedy Transmission The use of Coding with ECM achieves faster transmissions. Short Protocol reduces hand-shake time by shortening Phase B.
6. Error Correction Mode (ECM) An Error Correction Mode, which conforms to ITU-T/CCITT Recommendations, allows error-free data transmission. ECM with Coding also conforms to ITU-T/CCITT Recommendations.
7. Automatic Dialing Function Up to 130 stations can be easily dialed by Directory Dialing or Abbreviated Dialing Function. Any other stations can be dialed directly from the keypad by entering the full telephone number.
8. Memory Transmission The contents of a document can be stored into the document memory first, then transmitted from memory. Operator attendance until transmission ends is not necessary.
9. Multi-station Transmission Using the document memory, the document can be transmitted to multiple destinations.
10. Deferred Communication The 1 built-in 24-hour timers allow the operator to set deferred transmissions. Using the document memory, documents can also be transmitted to multiple stations.
11. Caller ID Function (Available in only certain countries) Caller's telephone number can be confirmed on the display before answering call. By registering unwanted call into Blacklist, it will not ring when the caller ID matches with one registered in the Blacklist.
12. Fax/Tel Automatic Switch This feature allows you share a single telephone line for both Fax and Voice, thus saving on the cost of installing a second telephone line. When the machine answers an incoming call, it will automatically distinguish whether the caller is a Fax or Voice, if it is a Fax call, the machine will receive the document. If it is a Voice call, the machine will beep for operator attention.
13. Document Memory Backup This unit has a Flash Memory to retain the document information and machine parameters [except calendar clock and dialing information for the file(s)] permanently even when a power failure occurs.
14. Halftone For transmission, this function ensures high quality reproduction of gray-shaded or photographic documents. This machine uses 64 levels of error diffusion to create halftones with Quality mode.
UF-E1
1
UF-E1
15. Copy Function The Copy function allows the machine to be used as a copier. Using the document memory, up to 99 copies can be made of a single original with Reduction and Enlargement capability.
16. 32 Transaction Journal The 32 Transaction Journal provides transaction information-number of pages transmitted or received, start date and time, communication results, identification, etc. It is automatically printed every 32 transactions, or it can be printed manually at anytime.
17. Communication Journal A communication journal is a result report of a communication which can be printed automatically after communication is completed. Printout conditions can be selected for each communication to 1) not print, 2) always print, or 3) print when communication has failed.
18. Multi-purpose LCD Display The 16 x 1 Alphanumeric LCD display shows the operation mode, date and time, remote ID number, and pages transmitted or received. In case of an error, the LCD display shows an information code and error message indicating the exact cause of trouble.
19. Remote Diagnostic Function The remote Diagnostic Function can be used to diagnose the unit remotely over the PSTN or equivalent. A new host system is required for high speed remote diagnostics to be available.

1.3. Internet Features and Functions

1. i-Fax Function With the UF-E1 built-in e-mail capability, documents can be transmitted or received via Internet network. Documents can be transmitted to not only i-Fax machine but also Personal Computers by just entering e-mail address.
2. E-Mail Function E-Mail message can be received by UF-E1 and printed out automatically after it was received. UF-E1 only supports ISO-8859-1, ISO-8559-2, ISO-8559-5, ISO-8559-6, ISO-8559-7, ISO-8559-8, ISO-85599, ISO-8559-11 characters and documents embedded with such fonts.

1.4. Printed Features and Functions

UF-E1 will be served as a colour printer by just pressing [PRINTER] button. For colour printing, colour cartridge must be purchased in advance.
