About this document

This document covers the basic provisioning needed to bring up a Multiservice Passport Access Network Link (MPANL) between a Passport 4400 and 6400.
Also includ ed is a s ecti on on est abl ishin g a net work managem ent co nnecti on to the 4400, and a s ecti on on configuring the RSI -RSA componen ts req uired for voice networking.

How this document is setup

Each section includes an example configuration with typical variables. The commands that follow use the variables from the example. When you use the commands, replace the example variables with variables unique to your network set up.
The examples and commands use and assume default values wherever possible.

When to use this document

The provisioning in this guide occurs after

the 4400 expansion modules are installed, the box is installed an d the cables co nnected
the 6400 cards are install ed, software downl oaded, cabl es connected and a network management station has access to the node

Logging onto the Passport switches

Log onto the Passport 4400

1 Connect the suppl ied RJ45 cabl e from the serial port on your computer or
teminal to the local management port on the 4400.
2 Open a terminal emulation session with the following se tt ings
Data Rate: 9600 bps Data Bits: 8 Stop Bits: 1 Parity: None
The port is self sensing. A welcom e screen and command line prompt appears.
3 Log onto the Command Line Interfac e (CLI)
> cli
Ignore the password prompt and hit the <enter> key.
4 Reload the default setti ngs into memeory. This command is optional.
CLI> reset system default reset

Log onto the Passport 6400

This document assumes that a network manag ement workstation is already connected to eithe r the 6400 locall y, or is connected to the Pass port Networ k and can access the 6400 remotely.
This assumpt ion is base d on the u sual practi ce of deplo ying an d settin g up the Passport 6400 nodes prior to the deployment of the 4400s.
