1 Start the computer and insert the User’s Manual CD. 2 Double-click the CD [COOLPIX L15] icon in Computer ( Windows Vista) or My Computer
(Windows XP/2000), or on the desktop (Macintosh).
3 Double-click the [INDEX.pdf ] icon to display a language selection screen.

Step 3 Turn On and Off the Camera
To turn on the camera, press the power switch. The power-on lamp (green) will light for a moment and the monitor will turn on. To turn off the camera, press the power switch again. When the camera turns off, both the power-on lamp and monitor will turn off.
Opening the Battery-chamber/Memory Card Slot Cover
Turn the camera off and make sure that the power-on lamp and the monitor have gone out before opening the battery-chamber/memory card slot cover. Hold the camera upside down to prevent the batteries from falling out.
Power Saving Function in Shooting Mode
If no operations are performed for about five seconds, the monitor will dim to save power. Using any of the camera controls will reactivate the display. The monitor turns off and the power-on lamp blinks if no operations are performed for thirty seconds (default setting). The camera enters standby mode. After a further three minutes, the camera will turn off automatically.

To use batteries other than the supplied alkaline batteries see page 12 of the User’s Manual.

Memory Cards
By default, pictures are stored in the camera’s internal memory (approximately 23 MB). If desired, a removable Secure Digital (SD) memory card can be used for additional storage. Internal memory is used for recording, deletion, and transfer only if no memory card is inserted.
To insert a memory card: 1 Turn the camera off and confirm that the power-on lamp and the monitor are off. 2 Open the battery-chamber/memory card slot cover as shown in
Step 2.1 (A 3) and slide the memory card in until it clicks into place. Insert the card as shown at right; do not insert it upside down or backwards. After inserting the memory card, close the battery-chamber/memory card slot cover as shown in Step 2.3 (A 3).
3 Turn the camera on. If the message shown at right is displayed
in the monitor, the memory card must be formatted before it can be used in the camera. Use the multi selector (A 6) to choose [Yes] and press k. A confirmation dialog is displayed. To start formatting, choose [Format] and press k. Note that formatting permanently deletes all pictures and

other data on the memory card. Before formatting, be sure to make copies of any pictures you wish to keep.
Do not turn the camera off or open the battery-chamber/memory card slot cover until formatting is complete.
To remove memory cards, turn the camera off and confirm that the power-on lamp and the monitor are off. Open the battery-chamber/memory card slot cover and press the card in to
partially eject the card. The card can then be removed by hand.

Step 4 Choose a Language and Set the Camera Clock
A language-selection dialog is displayed the first time the camera is turned on. Follow the steps below to choose a language and set the time and date.
The Multi Selector
Use the multi selector to choose and apply settings. Operate the multi selector by pressing it up, down, right, left, or by pressing k.
Move the highlight up.
Return to the previous screen
(move the highlight to the left).
Move the highlight down.
Advance to the next screen (move the highlight to the right).
Apply selection.
In the descriptions that follow, how to use the multi selector to perform a task are shown in gray.

When daylight saving time ends, turn [Daylight saving] off from the date menu in the setup menu. The camera’s clock is automatically set back one hour.

Step 1 Check Indicators in the Monitor
Check the battery level and number of exposures remaining.

U is displayed in easy auto mode. To select other shooting modes, press shooting mode button (A 14).
