Mitel 6100 User Manual

MSDE (SQL Basic) vs SQL Server (SQL Advanced)

NOTE: Windows 2000 Professional supports SQL Server 2000 Desktop Engine (MSDE), but does not support SQL Server 2000 Standard Edition software.
SQL is the best database for the Microsoft Windows® platform and is the relational database management system of choice for a broad spectrum of corporate customers. Microsoft Data Engine (MSDE) is the basic version of SQL. It is included free of charge with every Mitel Networks 6110 CCM solution. Optionally, you can purchase an advanced version of SQL called Microsoft SQL Server.

MSDE

prairieFyre embeds MSDE in the 6110 CCM software. MSDE is 100 percent compatible with Microsoft SQL Server. It is a runtime found in products such as Microsoft Access 2000. You can use MSDE on a stand-alone basis or as a client without requiring any Client Access Licenses (CALs).

Facts about MSDE

Is a runtime database application
Does not require CALs when used with 6110 CCM
Has a 2-GB database storage capacity
Does not include its own end user interface or diagnostic tools
Can be upgraded to a full blown SQL Server at any time

prairieFyre recommends customers use MSDE (SQL Basic) if they

Require a cost effective solution
Are running a single-site call center
Require a basic backup strategy
Do not plan on implementing the 6110 CCM multi-site management capabilities
Do not plan on leveraging the open database architecture for use with other applications
Do not need to interact with other SQL databases

SQL Server (SQL Advanced includes 1 SQL License and 5 Client Access Licenses)

You can purchase SQL Server off the shelf or through Mitel. It delivers a flexible, powerful platform that scales up from laptops and small business servers to terabyte-size databases. It fits seamlessly with existing applications and provides the most cost-effective environment for building and customizing applications tailored to unique business needs.
Computer workstations, user accounts, and other devices require an SQL Server CAL to use the services and functionality of Microsoft SQL Server. Workstations/users who run reports and use the administrative functions of 6110 CCM require an SQL CAL.
NOTE: Each 6110 CCM Server utilizes 2 SQL CALs. For example, if you have 3 supervisor client stations you require 5 SQL CALs.
prairieFyre recommends SQL Server (SQL Advanced) to those customers who
Have a multisite call center configuration
Have reached the maximum storage capacity of MSDE (SQL Basic) 2 GB
Plan on sharing data throughout the enterprise and the Internet
Require comprehensive diagnostic and troubleshooting tools
Have comprehensive backup requirements
