Warning and Safety instructions
Building in and connection
If the appliance is supplied without
a plug, or if the plug is removed, the appliance must be installed and connected by a fully competent person in strict accordance with national and local regulations. The manufacturer cannot be held responsible for damage caused by incorrect installation or connection.
The electrical safety of this
appliance can only be guaranteed when continuity is complete between the appliance and an effective earthing system which complies with local and national regulations.
It is imperative that this basic
safety requirement be tested and where there is any doubt, the electrical system of the house should be checked out by a qualified electrician. The manufacturer cannot be held responsible for damage such as electric shock caused by the lack or inadequacy of an effective earthing system.
Ensure that the gas pipe and
electrical cable are installed in such a way that they do not touch any parts of the appliance which become hot. This could cause damage.
Do not connect the appliance to
the mains electrical supply by an extension lead. Extension leads do not guarantee the required safety of the appliance.
Correct usage
Before installing and using the
appliance for the first time, read the operating instructions carefully. They give information on safety, on the operation and care of the appliance. This way you will avoid the risk of accidents and damage to the appliance.
For safety reasons the appliance
must only be operated after it has been built in. This is necessary to ensure that all electric components are shielded.
This appliance is intended for
domestic use only.
Use this appliance for the
preparation of meals only. Any other usage is at the owner’s risk and could be dangerous. The manufacturer cannot be held responsible for damage caused by improper use of the appliance.
Do not use the gas hob to heat up
the room. The high temperatures of the hob could cause inflammable objects in the vicinity to burn. This could also shorten the life of the appliance.
Ensure the room in which the gas
hob is installed has sufficent ventilation. In a small kitchen it may be advisable to keep the door open if using the hob for extended periods.
Never let the air inlet be covered
over with a cloth or anything else.
Make sure all the components of
the gas burner have been correctly assembled before switching on.
5
Warning and Safety instructions
When using a cooker hood over
the gas hob, ensure that the burner is always covered with a pan when in use. Otherwise flames could be drawn up by the suction of the cooker hood, parts of which could then be damaged or even set on fire.
Only woks/pans with a diameter of
16 cm to a maximum of 28 cm should be used on the gas hob.
If woks/pans have a larger diameter, the flame may spread out to the sides of the wok or the pan and damage or burn the worktop or surrounding units.
To ensure stability use the trivet for
pans with a base diameter of less than 16 cm.
Do not store any inflammable
objects near the gas hob.
Protecting from damage
Do not drop anything on the glass
surface of the hob. Even a light object such as a salt cellar could cause damage in certain circumstances.
Under no circumstances use a
steam cleaning appliance to clean the gas hob. Pressurised steam could cause permanent damage to the surface and to components, for which the manufacturer cannot accept responsibility.
KM 416-3
Take care when cleaning the control panel. It is susceptible to scratching and acidic agents. To prevent the risk of residual marks please wipe any soiling off as soon as possible.
In countries which may be subject
to infestation by cockroaches or other vermin, pay particular attention to keeping the appliance and its surroundings in a clean condition at all times. Any damage which might be caused by cockroaches or other vermin will not be covered by the appliance guarantee.
Protection from burning
Do not let small children use the
appliance or touch it during operation. Keep all pans out of the reach of children.
The burner support, trivet, burner
and also the ceramic surfaces around the burner heat up and remain hot for quite a while after the appliance has been switched off. Danger of burning. Do not touch them until they have cooled down. The use of oven gloves is recommended.
6

-
When using an electric socket near
the hob, care should be taken that the cable of the electrical appliance does not come into contact with the gas flames or the hot parts of the hob. The insulation on the cable could become damaged, giving rise to an electric shock hazard.
Always ensure that food is
sufficiently cooked or reheated. Some foods may contain micro organisms which are only destroyed by thorough cooking, therefore when cooking or reheating foods, e.g. poultry, select a longer cooking or reheating time.
Do not let children access the
appliance or its controls. Supervise its use by the elderly or infirm.
Spray canisters, aerosols and other
inflammable substances should not be stored in a drawer under the hob if there is no shelf separating the drawer from the hob. If cutlery inserts are to be placed in the drawer these must be made of a suitable heat-resistant material.
Further safety notes
Never leave the hob unattended
when cooking with oil or fat. Very hot oil can cause a fire. Always heat fat slowly, watching as it heats.
Do not flambé under a cooker
hood. Otherwise flames could be drawn up by the suction of the cooker hood, parts of which could then be damaged or even set on fire.
Before disposing of an old
appliance, ensure that disconnection from the gas supply is made by a suitably competent person. Switch off at the mains electricity supply. Cut off and render any plug useless. Cut off the cable directly behind the appliance to prevent misuse. Ensure that the appliance presents no danger to children while being stored for disposal.

Before using for the first time
Cleaning and heating up for the first time
On first use the hob may give off a slight smell as particles of dust burn off.
To remove any dust particles before using the hob proceed as follows:
The removable parts of the gas
^
burner assembly can be washed in a mild solution of water and washing-up liquid. Wipe dry and reassemble in the correct order (see "Cleaning and care").
Clean the ceramic surface with a mild
^
solution of washing-up liquid and wa ter, and then wipe dry.
-
9
Using the gas hob
Switching on, Switching off, Controls
The control knob is used to switch on the burner and regulate the strength of the flame.
With the knob no longer pressed in
^
you can continue turning it towards the small flame symbol.
Control the flame so that it does not spread out beyond the sides of the pan. As the outer part of the flame is much hotter than the centre, the tips of the flames should stay beneath the pan base. Flame tips which extend beyond the sides of the pan merely warm up the air in the room.
ß the gas supply is turned off.
& strong flame / weak flame
Switching on:
^
The control knob for the burner required must be pressed in and turned anti-clockwise to the large flame symbol to switch on.
^
When the flame ignites, keep the control pressed in for 8-10 seconds, and then let it go.
If the flame goes out, repeat the procedure, keeping the control knob pressed in for a few extra seconds.
Switching off:
^ Turn the knob clockwise until the "ß"
mark is reached.
This stops the flow of gas and the flame goes out.
Remember: Turn anti-clockwise to switch on, turn clockwise to switch off. The control knob cannot be turned anti-clockwise from the small flame symbol to the the "ß" mark.
10
Using the gas hob
Pans and trivet
Pan size
Wide, shallow pans are preferable to
narrow, tall ones. They heat up more quickly as there is room for more flame under the base. The burner is also suitable for wok cooking.
– The diameter of the pan should not
be more than 28 cm. With very large pans the exhaust gases which flow out from under the pan can damage the worktop or any nearby material which is not heat-resistant, (e.g. panelling on a wall).
Suitable pans
Any heat-resistant pans can be used on a gas burner.
Pan bases do not need to be even for cooking, (in contrast with those used on an electric hob). Through the spreading action of the flame, heat reaches all parts of the base.
Thick pan bases reduce the risk of food overheating in places, as heat is better distributed.
Thin pan bases conduct heat to the food inside more quickly than thicker ones. However as the heat is not evenly distributed over the pan base there is a danger that food may heat up unevenly. Stir the food frequently.
For stability please use the trivet for pans with a diameter of less than 16 cm. In this case always turn the hob control to the lowest setting.
11
Using the gas hob
Safety cut-out
This gas hob is fitted with an electric ignition safety device which cuts off the supply of gas if the flame goes out - for example if food has boiled over, or if there was a sudden draught.
Use during a power cut
If there is an interruption to the electricity supply the gas can be ignited with a match:
Press in the relevant control knob and
^
turn it anti-clockwise to the large flame symbol.
Hold the knob pressed in and light
^
the gas at the burner with a match. Keep the control knob pressed in for
^
a further 8-10 seconds and then release it.
12
Cleaning and care
Normal cleaning
For normal cleaning it is enough to wipe over the ceramic surface, all the parts of the burner, the cover plate of the air vent and the control knob with a sponge and a solution of warm water and washing-up liquid. Dry with a soft cloth.
Thorough cleaning
Ceramic hob surface
Treat the ceramic surface as carefully as any other glass surface.
Stubborn spillages are best removed with a shielded scraper blade. Then wipe the hob surface with a damp cloth and dry.
Limescale deposits left by water that has boiled over can be removed with a little vinegar or a proprietary cleaning agent.
Always rub the ceramic surface dry after cleaning with a damp cloth to avoid scale deposits.
Burner
The burner can be dismantled for cleaning when cold.
Proceed as follows:
Take off all the removable parts of the
^
burner and wash in a solution of hot water and washing-up liquid. Then rub them all dry. Make sure that the flame holes are completely dry.
The surfaces of the two burner caps will become more matt with time. This is normal and does not indicate any deterioration.
^ Wipe the fixed parts of the burner
base with a damp cloth and dry afterwards.
^ Gently wipe the ignition electrode
and the thermo-element with a well wrung-out cloth and wipe dry with a clean cloth.
The ignition device electrode on the burner must always be dry otherwise it will not spark.
13
Cleaning and care
Re-assemble the burner as follows :
Make sure that the parts of the burner are re-assembled in the correct order after cleaning.
Important:
1. Do not mix up the top and bottom.
2. The locating lugs must fit exactly
into the notches.
Proceed as shown in the illustration.
Fit the large burner cap base on to
^
the burner base a.
^ Fit the burner collar ring e. ^ Put the large burner cap on the large
burner cap base b.
^ Put the pan support in place c. ^ Put the trivet in place if required.
14
General notes
Never use scouring agents or pads, or strong cleaners such as oven sprays or stain or rust removers, as these could harm the surface.
Under no circumstances use a steam-cleaning appliance to clean this hob. The steam pressure could cause lasting damage to the surface and other components. The manufacturer can accept no responsibility for damage so caused.
Do not use any sharp pointed objects which could damage the seal between the ceramic surround and frame between the frame and the worktop.
Cleaning and care
KM 416-3 Wipe any soiling off the control panel immediately to prevent the risk of residual marks.
