Warning and Safety instructions
Warning and Safety instructions
This machine conforms to current safety requirements. Inappropriate use can however lead to personal injury and damage to property. Read the operating instructions carefully before starting to use this machine. This way you will avoid the risk of accidents, and damage to the machine. Keep these instructions in a safe place for future reference.
Correct usage
This machine is designed for com-
mercial use and for specialised applications only, as described in these Operating Instructions. Using it for purposes other than those for which it was designed would be unauthorised and could cause harm. The manufacturer cannot be held responsible for damage caused by improper use.
Please pay attention to the following notes, to maintain safe procedures.
The machine should be commis-
sioned and then maintained only by the Miele Service Department, an authorised Miele Service Dealer or other approved competent person.
Do not install the machine in an
area where a danger of explosion may be present, or sub-zero temperatures may occur.
Children and untrained personnel
should not be allowed access to the machine or its controls.
The electrical safety of this ma-
chine can only be guaranteed if connected to a correctly installed earthing system on site. It is most important that this basic safety requirement is met and complies with local and national regulations. It should be checked by an expert if necessary. The manufacturer cannot be held responsible for damage such as electric shock caused by missing or defective earthing.
A damaged machine is dan-
gerous. Switch off at the mains immediately and call an authorised Miele service dealer, or suitably competent engineer.
Any repair work may only be car-
ried out by a suitably competent person authorized by Miele. Repairs by unqualified persons could be dangerous for the user.
Take care when handling liquids
such as detergents, wetting agents, or neutralising agents. These may contain irritant or corrosive ingredients, acids or alkalis. On no account use any organic solvent, as there may be the danger of an explosion occurring. Follow the chemical manufacturer’s instructions and relevant safety procedures carefully. Wear protective gloves and goggles.
Avoid inhalation of powder
cleaners. Irritant ingredients can cause burning in the mouth and throat is swallowed, or inhibit breathing.
The water in the machine must not
be used as drinking water.
5
Warning and Safety instructions
Do not sit or lean on the open door,
or rest objects on it. This could cause the machine to tip and be damaged.
Be careful when sorting items with
sharp pointed ends and positioning them in the machine so that you do not hurt yourself or create danger for other operators.
When using this machine at higher
temperatures be especially careful not to scald or burn yourself. Baskets and inserts must first cool down. Any water which may remain in containers will be very hot and must be emptied into the wash cabinet.
Do not touch the heating elements
during or directly after the end of a programme. You could burn yourself.
Never use an ordinary or a high
pressure hose on or in the vicinity of the machine.
Before any maintenance or repair
work is undertaken, the machine must be disconnected from the mains supply, by switching off at the mains isolator, or withdrawing the mains fuse.
The following points should be observed to maintain standards, and avoid damage to the machine and the loads being cleaned.
Only use cleaning agents formu-
lated for special processes and approved by Miele for use with this machine. Use of unsuitable cleaning agents could adversely affect the load and the machine.
For pre-treatment and / or cleaning
only use low-foaming detergents and disinfecting agents which have been approved by Miele. Foam can have an adverse effect on the disinfection and cleaning process.
Where a chemical additive is rec-
ommended on technical application grounds (for example with a cleaning agent), this does not imply that the manufacturer of the machine takes responsibility for the effect of the chemical on the material of the items being cleaned. Please be aware that changes in formulation, storage conditions etc, which may not be publicised by the chemical producer, can have a negative effect on the cleaning result.
Always follow the instructions of
the chemical manufacturer when using cleaning agents and special application chemicals. Only use such chemicals for the purpose and in the situation specified, to the exclusion of other chemicals, to avoid such dangers as chemical reactions and material damage.
The machine is designed only for
operation with water and additive cleaning agents. Organic solvents must not be used in the machine, as there is the danger under certain circumstances of explosion. (Although this is not the case with all organic solvents, other problems could arise with their use, for example damage to rubber and synthetic materials).
6
Warning and Safety instructions
In critical applications where very
stringent requirements have to be met, it is strongly recommended that all the relevant factors for the process, such as cleaning agent, quality of water are discussed with the Miele Application Technology specialists.
If the cleaning result is subject to
these particularly stringent requirements (e.g. chemical analysis, specialised processes), a regular quality control test should be carried out by the user to ensure that required standards of cleanliness are being achieved.
Use special inserts in accordance
with the instructions provided.
Empty any containers or utensils
before arranging them in the machine.
Do not allow any remains of acids
or solvents, or chloride solutions to get into the wash cabinet. Similarly avoid any materials with a corrosive effect. The presence in compounds of any solvents should be minimal, (especially those in hazard class A1).
Accessories
The only accessories to be used
with the special commercial machine must be those supplied or approved by MIELE for the specific application. Consult your dealer or the Miele Professional department for advice.
Disposal of an old machine
When disposing of an old machine
first make it unusable. Disconnect, cut off the cable and any plug from the cable. For environmental and safety reasons ensure the machine is completely drained of any residue water and cleaning agent. (Observe safety regulations and wear safety goggles and gloves). Make the door lock inoperative, so that children cannot accidentally shut themselves in. The simplest way to do this is to remove the locking pin (2 cross-slotted screws above the door). Make appropriate arrangements for the safe disposal of the machine.
For tank system machines ensure that any water is emptied out of the tank.
Ensure that solutions or steam con-
taining acid salts do not come into contact with the steel outer casing of the machine, to avoid any corrosion damage.
Follow both the installation instruc-
tions in this booklet, and also the separate instructions with diagrams.
In countries where there are areas which may be subject to infestation by cockroaches or other vermin, pay particular attention to keeping the machine and its surroundings in a clean condition at all times. Any damage which may be caused by cockroaches or other vermin will not be covered by the machine guarantee.
The manufacturer cannot be held responsible for any damage caused through non-observance of these Warning and Safety instructions.

Description of the machine
Description of the machine
This machine is a front-loading commercial dishwasher with very short batch times especially suitable for washing up in guest houses, cafés, fast food outlets, boarding houses, etc.
This machine is fitted with a water softener as standard.
8
Setting the water softener
To avoid the build-up of calcium deposits on crockery and in the dishwasher the water needs to be softened, if it is harder than 107 ppm.
To ensure a steady supply of soft water the water softener unit must be:
– correctly set, and – the salt reservoir in the floor of the
wash cabinet must be topped up with dishwasher reactivating salt as soon as the k light comes on.
The water softener must always be set to correspond with the water hardness the first time the machine is used.
Your local water authority will advise you on the water hardness in your area.
Setting the water softener
The hardness range is divided into 18 time settings and a zero position. The dishwasher is set at the factory for a water hardness setting "8", corresponding to 339 ppm. If your water supply is harder or softer than this, then:
Use the touchpads on the control panel to change the setting, (see table).

Preparation
Empty loose remains from crockery prior to loading.
Notes
Load the crockery so that water will come into contact with all surfaces. This ensures that they will be properly cleaned.
Do not place crockery and cutlery inside other pieces where they may be concealed.
Loading the upper basket
The upper basket accommodates small, light items such as cups, saucers, glasses, dessert bowls, small bowls and heat-resistant plasticware.
Loading the bottom basket
The bottom basket accommodates bigger items such as plates, serving platters, saucepans, bowls. Glasses may only be cleaned in the bottom basket if it is fitted with a special glassware insert.
Hollow items such as cups, glasses, pots, etc, must be inverted in the basket, so the water can run off freely.
Deep-based items should be placed at such an angle that water runs off them freely.
Tall, narrow, hollow pieces should be placed in the centre of the basket to ensure good coverage of water.
Normally place cups and small pieces on the cup racks, but do not obsure them by larger items beneath. If necessary place bowls on the top rack and cups below them so that water reaches all pieces.
Do not cover the funnel to the spray arm in the middle of the upper basket.
The spray arms must not be blocked by items which are too high for the basket or which hang down in its path. If necessary, manually rotate the arm to test it.
Cutlery
Unsorted cutlery should be placed in the cutlery basket, handles pointing downwards.

Reactivating the water softener
Reactivating the water softener
When the k indicator light on the left hand side of the control panel comes on during a programme, the built-in water softener is depleted and cannot supply any more softened water.
It must therefore be reactivated soon as the wash programme has finished.
If this cannot be done immediately and further batches have been washed, then the reactivation process must be carried out twice in succession.
Use only pure specialised reactivation salt, if possible coarse-grained washer reactivation salt with granules of approximately 1-4 mm. Under no circumstances must other salts be used, e.g.table salt or gritting salt. These could contain components which are insoluble in water which could result in damage to the water softener.

Filling the salt container
Do not put detergents in the salt container! This can damage the water softener, and block the filter closure, causing a pressure build-up in the salt container. When removing the salt container there is a risk of burns and corrosion from corrosive alkaline materials. Before filling the salt container, ensure that you have a salt pack in your hand.
dishwasher
The salt container holds about 2 kg.
Important
If the only reactivation salt available is fine grain, please consult your Miele representative. Reactivation salt with granules larger than 4 mm cannot be used.
26
Unscrew the filter insert from the salt container and remove.
Fill the salt container with granular salt and screw the filter insert back in place.
Reactivating the water softener
Position the salt container as follows:
Remove the bottom basket from the machine.
Unscrew the plastic cap in the base of the wash cabinet.
Switch on the dishwasher
Open the stopcocks. Close the door. Press the I-0 button. Press the k touchpad. Press the "Start" h touchpad.
The reactivation programme proceeds automatically and finishes when the check light k, on the left hand side of the control panel and the "Start" indicator light h have gone out.
Then:
Switch off the dishwasher. Unscrew the salt container carefully, so that any water pressure that has built up can be released. Do not use force. If you cannot unscrew the salt container by hand, contact the Miele Service department. Screw the plastic lid back on the socket. Reposition bottom basket. Rinse the salt container and filter insert thoroughly. Turn off the stopcocks.
Place the salt container on the reactivation socket and screw firmly into place.
Important
The water pressure (flow pressure at the take off point) must be at least 2.5 bar.
If the flow pressure is below 2.5 bar, or if it fluctuates, the water softener cannot be reactivated in the normal way. After reactivation, salt remains may still be found in the salt container.
To use up salt remains and to wash out the water softener, the "reactivate softener" programme must be switched on again.

Any work on the electrical components of the machine should only be carried out by a suitably qualified and competent person.
Faults / Possible causes
The dishwasher does not start – Check that the door is properly
closed.
– Check that the switch at the isolator
is on.
– Check the fuses.
A few minutes after switching on, the indicator light p q flashes.
– The stopcocks are closed.
The water in the wash cabinet is not heated: the programme sequence lasts too long
This dishwasher has a resettable heater limiter which will shut off the heating in case of overheating. This could be caused for example, if large articles cover the heating elements or if the filters in the wash cabinet are blocked.
Remove cause of fault.
Take off service panel (see "Electri-
cal connection ").

Installation
Please refer to the installation diagram supplied with this machine
The machine must be installed correctly and levelled accordingly. Any unevenness in the floor level can be compensated for by adjusting the screw feet.
The machine can be installed in the following ways:
Free-standing Slot-in or at the end of a row:
The dishwasher should be installed adjacent to other appliances and furniture or in a recess at least 60 cm wide and 60 cm deep.
Built under:
The dishwasher should be installed under a worktop run or under a draining board. The recess should be at least 60 cm wide, 60 cm deep and 82 cm high.
To do this the machine lid must be removed as follows:
Open the door
Remove the fixing screws on the left
and right using a cross-headed
screwdriver.
Pull the lid approximately 5 mm for-
wards, lift and remove. Without the lid the dishwasher can be
built into a recess 82 cm high. If building the dishwasher into a recess 87 cm high, a conversion kit is required.
Adjust and secure the dishwasher
To guarantee stability, the dishwasher must first be aligned and then screwed to the worktop.
Open the door.
Through each of the two holes in the
front rim, left and right, screw the
dishwasher to the front edge of the
continuous worktop.

Connection to the water inlet
The dishwasher must be connected to the water supply in accordance with the local and national regulations, (NWC in Great Britain).
The dishwasher is constructed to comply with German water authority regulations in such a way that an external non-return valve is not required.
The water pressure (flow rate) must be between 2.5 and 10 bar (0.25 and 1 MPa). If the water pressure is not within this range, the Miele Service Department will advise you of the measures to take. (See also "Programming special functions").
The dishwasher is supplied as standard for connection to cold (max 70°C) water supply. Colour markings are blue for cold and red for hot water. The inlet hoses should be connected to the respective cold and hot water stopcocks. If no hot water supply is available, the hose for hot water (red marking) must be connected to the cold water supply. In this case both hoses should be connected to the cold water supply. The hose marked with 90 °C should only be connected to supplies at maximum 70 °C in order to prolong its life.

The 1/2 inch inlet pressure hoses are
approximately 1.7 m long and termi-
nate in a 3/4 inch female thread. On
no account must the inlet filters be
removed.
For extra protection of the solenoid
valve against impurities in the water
supply, large surface area filters are
enclosed in the kit supplied with the
machine.

Caring for the environment
Caring for the environment
Disposal of packing
The transport and protective packing has been selected from materials which are environmentally friendly for disposal and can normally be recycled. Rather than just throwing these materials away, please ensure they are offered for recycling.
Disposal of your old machine/appliance
Old machines/appliances contain materials which can be recycled. Please contact your dealer, your local waste collection centre or scrap merchant about potential recycling schemes. Ensure that the machine/appliance presents no danger to children while being stored for disposal. See the appropriate advice in the “Warning and safety” instructions.
When disposing of an old machine first make it unusable.
