Warning and Safety instructions
The downdraft extractor must only be installed and operated in
combination with those ProLine appliances specified by Miele.
Important: This downdraft extractor must not be used in combination with a gas cooktop.
A damaged appliance is dangerous. Check it for any visible
damage. Never install or attempt to use a damaged appliance.
The electrical safety of this appliance can only be guaranteed
when continuity is complete between it and an effective earthing system. It is most important that this basic safety requirement is present and tested regularly and, where there is any doubt, the household wiring system should be inspected by a qualified electrician.
Reliable and safe operation of this downdraft extractor can only
be assured if it has been connected to the mains electricity supply.
Before connecting the appliance to the mains electricity supply,
make sure that the rating on the data plate (voltage and frequency) corresponds to that of the household supply. This data must correspond in order to avoid risk of damage to the appliance. Consult a qualified electrician if in any doubt.
Do not connect the downdraft extractor to the mains electrical
supply by a multi-socket adapter or extension lead. These are a fire hazard and do not guarantee the required safety of the appliance.
For safety reasons, this appliance may only be used after it has
been built in.
This downdraft extractor must not be installed and operated in
mobile installations (e.g. on a ship).
Warning and Safety instructions
Touching or tampering with electrical connections or components

Warning and Safety instructions

Using at the same time as other heating appliances that depend on the air from the room

Warning - danger of toxic fumes! Great care should be taken when using the downdraft extractor at the same time and in the same room or area of the house as another heating appliance which depends on the air in the room. Such appliances include gas, oil, wood or coal-fired boilers and heaters, continuous flow or other water heaters, gas cooktops, or ovens which draw air in from the room and duct exhaust gases out through a chimney or extraction ducting.
When used in extraction mode, with or without an external motor fitted, or in recirculation mode with a recirculation box installed outside the room, the downdraft extractor draws air in from the room in which it is installed and from neighbouring rooms.
If there is insufficient air, an underpressure will occur. The heating appliance will be starved of oxygen, impairing combustion. Harmful gases could be drawn out of the chimney or extraction ducting back into the room, with potentially fatal consequences.
Warning and Safety instructions
In order to ensure safe operation, and to prevent gases given off by the heating appliances from being drawn back into the room when the downdraft extractor and the heater are in operation simultaneously, an underpressure in the room of 0.04 mbar (4 pa) is the maximum permissible.
Ventilation can be maintained by air inlets which cannot be blocked, in windows, doors or outside wall vents, or by other technical measures, such as ensuring that the downdraft extractor can only be switched on when the heating appliance is switched off or vice versa. A ventilation brick alone is not generally sufficient to ensure safe ventilation.
The overall ventilation condition of the dwelling must be taken into account. If in any doubt, the advice of a competent builder or, for gas, a qualified gas fitter (registered with an official gas safety body in accordance with national safety regulations) must be sought.
If the downdraft extractor is used in recirculation mode, where the air is directed back into the room in which it is located, operating a heating appliance which depends on the room air at the same time is not hazardous.
Warning and Safety instructions

Correct use

Open flames are a fire hazard!
Never use an open flame beside the downdraft extractor. To avoid the danger of fire, do not flambé or grill over an open flame. When switched on, the downdraft extractor could draw flames into the filter. Kitchen grease deposits could ignite.
Overheated oil and fat can ignite, causing fire damage to the
downdraft extractor. When cooking with oil or fat, chip pans and deep fat fryers etc., do not leave the pans unattended. Similarly, never leave an open grill unattended when grilling.
Do not use the downdraft extractor without the filter in place. This
way you will avoid the risk of grease and dirt getting into the appliance and hindering its smooth operation.
There is a risk of fire if cleaning is not carried out as described in
these operating instructions.
The downdraft extractor can get very hot during cooking due to
the heat from the cooktop. Do not touch the housing or the grease filter until the downdraft extractor has cooled down.
Do not use the downdraft extractor for resting objects on.Do not cover the grille when in use.Keep liquids away from the downdraft extractor.
Liquids can damage the extractor if they get into it.
Light objects can be drawn into the downdraft extractor and
impair its operation. Do not place any light objects (e.g. paper towels) within close proximity of the downdraft extractor.
Warning and Safety instructions

Correct installation

Please refer to the “Installation” section of this booklet when
fitting the downdraft extractor.
All pipework, ducting and fittings must be of non-flammable
material and comply with all relevant national and local building regulations.
The appliance must not be connected to a chimney or vent flue
which is in current use for exhausting fumes from appliances burning gas or other fuels. Neither should it be connected to ducting which ventilates rooms with fireplaces.
If exhaust air is to be extracted into a chimney or ventilation duct
no longer used for other purposes, seek professional advice.

Warning and Safety instructions

Cleaning and care

Do not use a steam cleaning appliance to clean this appliance.
Pressurised steam could reach the electrical components and cause a short circuit.
In areas which may be subject to infestation by cockroaches or
other vermin, pay particular attention to keeping the machine and its surroundings in a clean condition at all times. Any damage which may be caused by cockroaches or other vermin will not be covered by the machine warranty.

Accessories

Use only genuine original Miele spare parts. If spare parts or
accessories from other manufacturers are used, the warranty will be invalidated, and Miele cannot accept liability.
11

Caring for the environment

Disposal of the packing material

The transport and protective packing has been selected from materials which are environmentally friendly for disposal, and can normally be recycled.
Recycling the packaging reduces the use of raw materials in the manufacturing process and also reduces the amount of waste in landfill sites. Ensure that any plastic wrappings, bags etc. are disposed of safely and kept out of the reach of babies and young children. Danger of suffocation.

Disposing of your old appliance

Electrical and electronic appliances often contain materials which, if handled or disposed of incorrectly, could be potentially hazardous to human health and to the environment. They are, however, essential for the correct functioning of your appliance. Therefore, please do not dispose of your old appliance with your household waste.
Please dispose of it at your local community waste collection / recycling centre.
Ensure that your old appliance presents no danger to children while being stored for disposal.

16

Switching the fan on/off

Switch the fan on as soon as you start cooking. This is to ensure that vapours are captured right from the start.
For light to heavy cooking vapours and odours, select from power levels 1 to 3.
For short periods of cooking food with intensive vapours and a strong aroma, e.g. when searing meat, select Booster settingB.
Turn the dial from 0 to the required
power level.
Turn the dial back to 0 to switch the
appliance off.

Run-on time

It is advisable to run the fan for a few
minutes after cooking has finished.
This helps to remove any lingering vapours and odours from the air.

Operation

It also reduces the risk of residues accumulating in the rangehood and any resultant odours.
17

Energy saving tips

This downdraft extractor operates very efficiently and economically. The following will help you to save even more energy when using it:
- Ensure that there is sufficient ventilation in the kitchen when cooking. In extraction mode if there is insufficient air flow, the downdraft extractor cannot operate efficiently and this causes increased operating noise levels.
- Always cook with the lowest possible setting. This produces fewer cooking vapours, so you can use a lower downdraft extractor power level and therefore benefit from reduced energy consumption.
- Check the power level selected on the downdraft extractor. A lower power level is generally sufficient for the majority of cooking. Only use the Booster setting when necessary.
- When a large volume of cooking vapours are being produced, switch to a high power level in good time. This is more efficient than operating the downdraft extractor for longer to try to capture cooking vapours which have already been distributed throughout the kitchen.
- Make sure that you switch the downdraft extractor off after use.
- Clean or change the filters at regular intervals. Heavily soiled filters reduce performance, increase the risk of fire and are unhygienic.
18

Cleaning and care

Before cleaning, the downdraft
extractor and the ProLine appliances must be switched off and the ProLine appliances need to have cooled down.
For instructions on how to clean the ProLine appliances, please refer to their separate operating instructions.

Downdraft extractor housing

General

The surfaces and controls are
susceptible to scratches and abrasion.
Please observe the following cleaning instructions.
All external surfaces and controls can
be cleaned using warm water with a small amount of washing-up liquid applied with a well wrung-out soft sponge or cloth.

Important information for appliances with stainless steel surfaces

Stainless steel surfaces can be cleaned with a non-abrasive cleaning agent designed specifically for use on stainless steel.
To prevent the surfaces from quickly becoming dirty again, we recommend treating them with a stainless steel care product (available from Miele).
Do not use a ceramic and stainless steel cleaner or stainless steel conditioning agent on the printing.
This would rub the printing off. These areas should only be cleaned
with a solution of warm water and a little washing-up liquid applied with a soft sponge.
After cleaning, wipe the surfaces dry
using a soft cloth.
Do not use:
- cleaning agents containing soda, acids, chlorides or solvents,
- abrasive cleaning agents, e.g. powder cleaners or cream cleaners and abrasive sponges, as well as pot scourers or sponges which have been used previously with abrasive cleaning agents. These will damage the surface material.
19
Cleaning and care

Moisture collection tray

The moisture collection tray should be cleaned if liquids boil over or are spilled into the grille of the downdraft extractor.
Remove and clean the grease filter as
described later in this section.
Undo the latches while holding the
moisture collection tray. Carefully remove the tray from the housing, making sure it is kept horizontal.
Pour away the liquid.

Grease filter and extraction grille

Fire hazard!
An oversaturated grease filter is a fire hazard.
Clean the grease filter at regular intervals.
The extraction grille and the reusable metal grease filter collect solid matter from kitchen vapours (grease, dust etc.) and therefore prevent soiling of the downdraft extractor.
The grease filter and the extraction grille must be cleaned at regular intervals.
A heavily soiled grease filter hinders air extraction and will lead to increased levels of soiling in the downdraft extractor and in the kitchen.

Grease filter cleaning intervals

The extraction grille and the grease filter should be cleaned regularly (at least every 3-4 weeks) to avoid a build-up and hardening of grease.
Clean and dry the tray. Also clean and dry the accessible
inside of the downdraft extractor.
Reattach the moisture collection tray
to the housing, insert the grease filter and refit the extraction grille.
20
Cleaning and care

Removing the extraction grille and grease filter

Lift up the extraction grille.Carefully lift out the grease filter and
try not to tilt it.
Pour out any liquid which has
collected at the bottom of the grease filter.

Cleaning the extraction grille and grease filter by hand

Clean the extraction grille and the
grease filter with a soft nylon brush in a mild solution of hot water and a small amount of washing-up liquid. Do not use undiluted washing-up liquid.

Unsuitable cleaning agents

Unsuitable cleaning agents can cause damage to the surface of the filters if used regularly. Do not use:
- aggressive all-purpose cleaning agents or spray cleaners for grease,
- oven sprays.

Cleaning the extraction grille and grease filter in a dishwasher

Place the extraction grille as upright
as possible and the grease filter with its base facing upwards in the lower basket. Ensure the spray arm is not obstructed.
Use a standard household
dishwasher detergent.
Select a dishwasher programme with
a wash temperature between 50°C and 65°C.
Depending on the cleaning agent used, cleaning the grease filter in a dishwasher can cause permanent discolouration to the internal surfaces of the filter. However, this will not affect the functioning of the filter in any way.

After cleaning

When removing the extraction grille
and the grease filter for cleaning, also clean off any residues of oil or fat from the now accessible housing to prevent the risk of these catching fire.
- cleaning agents containing descaling agents,
- powder cleaners or cream cleaners,
21
Cleaning and care

Recirculation mode

If you intend to use recirculation mode with the separate recirculation box, ensure you read the corresponding operating instructions supplied with the recirculation box.
Fit the grease filter in the downdraft
extractor. Depending on model, the grease filter has a marking on it. Fit the grease filter so that the arrow faces in the direction of the fan.
Install the extraction grille. Ensure it is
correctly aligned at the front and rear.

Installation notes

Sealing between the ProLine appliance and the worktop

The ProLine appliance and the worktop may be damaged if the appliance needs to be removed after it has been sealed with a sealant. Do not use any sealant between the ProLine appliance and the worktop. The sealing strip under the edge of the top part of the appliance provides a sufficient seal for the worktop.

Tiled worktop

Grout lines and the hatched area underneath the ProLine appliance frame must be smooth and even. If they are not, the ProLine appliance will not sit flush with the worktop and the sealing strip underneath the top part of the appliance will not provide a good seal between the appliance and the worktop.

Fixing screws

The fixing screws supplied are suitable for installation in a wooden worktop. If the appliance is being installed in a stone worktop, for example, use a strong adhesive or double-sided tape (not supplied) to secure the spacer bars and spring clamps. Use silicone, for example, around these components as an additional means of securing them to the worktop.
32
*INSTALLATION*
Installation

Preparing the worktop

Make the worktop cut-out as shown
in the “Building-in dimensions”. Observe the safety distances in all of the applicable ProLine operating and installation instructions.

Connection for air extraction

Before installation, it is important
to read the following information. This is particularly crucial when using the downdraft extractor at the same time as a heating appliance that relies on oxygen from the same room, which could result in the buildup of toxic fumes.
It is particularly important that the “Warning and Safety instructions” are observed.
The downdraft extractor should be installed according to local and national building regulations. Seek approval from the building inspector where necessary.
The downdraft extractor has an exhaust connection of 222x89mm.
Only use smooth pipes or flexible
hoses made from non-flammable materials that comply with all relevant national and local building regulations for the extraction ducting.
To achieve the greatest possible air
extraction with the lowest noise level, please note the following:
- The cross-section of the exhaust ducting must not be smaller than the cross-section of the exhaust connection (see “Appliance dimensions”).
Remember that any constriction of the airflow will reduce extraction performance and increase operating noise.
If the exhaust air is to be ducted into
a vent flue, the ducting must be directed in the flow direction of the flue.
When ducting is horizontal it must be
laid to slope away at at least 1cm per metre. This is to ensure that condensate cannot drain back into the downdraft extractor.
If the exhaust ducting is to run
through rooms, ceiling space etc. where there may be great variations in temperature between the different areas, the problem of condensation will need to be addressed. The exhaust ducting will need to be suitably insulated.
- The exhaust ducting should be as short and straight as possible.

*INSTALLATION*

Electrical connection

Risk of damage from incorrect
connection. Danger of injury! Miele cannot be
held liable for unauthorised installation, maintenance and repair work as this can be dangerous to users. Miele cannot be held liable for damage or injury (e.g. electric shock) caused by incorrect installation, maintenance or repair work, or by an inadequate or faulty earthing system.
If the plug has been removed or the connection cable is not supplied with a plug, the ProLine appliance must be connected to the electricity supply by a suitably qualified and competent electrician.
If the appliance is to be hard-wired, an additional means of disconnection must be provided for all poles in accordance with the wiring rules. When switched off, there must be an all-pole contact gap of at least 3 mm in the switch (including switch, fuses and relays). Connection data is shown on the data plate. It must match the mains electricity supply.
After installation, ensure that all electrical components are shielded and cannot be accessed by users.
We recommend connecting to the mains electricity supply via a switched socket. This will make it easier for service technicians should the appliance need to be repaired. Three sockets are required to connect the two ProLine appliances and the downdraft extractor. The sockets must be easily accessible after the ProLine appliances have been installed.

Total power output

See data plate.

Connection

AC 230 V, 50 Hz
The voltage and rated load are given on the data plate. Please ensure these match the household mains supply.

Residual current device

For extra safety, it is advisable to protect the ProLine appliance with a suitable residual current device (RCD) with a trip range of 30 mA.
