1. Introduction

Thank you for your purchase of your new LaCie FireWire 400
PCI Card! This FireWire IEEE 1394a PCI Host Controller card
uses the most advanced, high-speed digital technology, low-cost
and high bandwidth realtime (isochronous) data interfacing be­tween computers, computer peripherals and consumer electron­ics products such as camcorders, VCRs, printer, TVs, and digital
cameras.

Now when you connect your FireWire 400 devices through your
LaCie FireWire 400 PCI Card, you will be able to achieve the
impressive new transfer rates that FireWire 400 makes possible.

FireWire is also a point-to-point interface, meaning that a
FireWire device can transmit data to another FireWire device
without having to go through a computer. This lets several com­puters share a given device, and also allows up to 63 devices
to be daisy-chained to the same FireWire bus (with a max of 16
devices on one branch).
